Eela laughed openly. “I make no promises on the matter,” she said, shifting into a grin and her hazel eyes lit up. “There are many ways to encourage consensus, and sometimes it requires something a little more unconventional.”

“Do you have any other questions? If not, I should get to my next meeting and then take a rest. My new doctor will give me hell if I don’t,” she said before downing the last of her coffee.

“You’re right, she will. She may even enjoy it on occasion.” Sharah grinned and tapped her mug as she took a sip thinking. “For now, my only question is if you have any specific requirements from the medical staff. We may already be fullfilling it, but I’d rather know up front.”

Fayth, SFCMO

“On the professional front, just keep me in the loop. My office handles a lot of the higher level day-to-day minutiae of the colony, while the Governor tends to be more big picture. And thus we work together to keep that balanced. But I can’t act upon or help with things I don’t know about, so let me know.”

Fayth nodded. That was easy. Her job wasn’t really to make those kinds of decisions, but to provide all the information she had so that others could. She smiled gently, “I don’t think that will be a problem.”

Dasca inhaled deeply before blowing out that breath. “Personally, as a patient though, things are… complicated. I consider myself an upfront and honest person, but I’m intensely private about some things. My medical situation is one of them. But I’m not an idiot, people will be able to quickly tell I’m not 100%. That’s fine, I never expected to keep it all a secret.” That familiar swirl of anxiety surfaced briefly before she pushed it back down. “But I’m way out on a limb here Doctor Fayth. I’m stuck in the middle of a very complicated political situation here and not to put too fine a point on it, I have something to prove and everyone knows it. But here at this hospital, where a part of me resents having to be? It’s the one place where I know where I stand and I know people are on my side.” She shrugged. “It’s strange, but it’s reality. So, that’s all I ask. Be on me my side in this one area. Even if it pisses me off when you do,” she said, breaking into a grin. “I’m a big girl. I can handle being told off now and again, and some days I need to remind myself I’m not invincible. Call it a bad habit from the captain’s chair.”

“As far as being a patient, we are all on your side. Even if that doesn’t always look how you expect it.” Making her mad to do what was best for her health wasn’t something that Fayth was unfamiliar with. Her mind travelled quickly back to the Viking. Feelings of apprehension, fear, uncertainty, as well a stubborn certainty swirled around inside her and were detectable for a moment before Sharah took a deep breath and put them in their proper place. When others wanted to create harm, and act out of fear, you stood your ground and fought for understanding. Cpt Rende’s words came back to her with the deep breath. “I’ve known a few officers with the same idea about themselves. You act as invincible as you need to, as long as you don’t do anything outside of my skill to heal.”

Fayth, SFCMO

That made Eela laugh again, even as she had digested the brief surge of emotions from Sharah. “Oh, trust me, I have a security detail assigned that would take great exception to that, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.”

Dasca rose to her feet and offered Fayth a warm and sincere smile. “Thank you for your time and understanding, Lieutenant. I look forward to working together.”
