The CCDA headquarters complex took up a full quarter of the main orbital platform of the Oed V colony. Spanning dozens of decks and surface buildings, the complex was the nexus of the year old Colonial Customs and Defense Agency. Hundreds of CCDA and colonial Police staff walked, ran, and sprinted through the complex carrying out the daily activities of the agency. Every deck, including the flight lines which hosed the CCDA space contingents, was a busy evey hour of every day.

In the center of the complex was the Command Information Center. This massive six story tall structure housed the brains of the CCDA, including the offices and conference rooms reserved for the Commanding General and his Vice-Commander. Multiple checkpoints had to be passed to gain access to the section, and each checkpoint was manned at all times. Each checkpoint screened everyone coming inside; both for identity and anything that could be considered a weapon. The screenings were done quickly, efficiently, and professionally by agents representing almost all known races… including some that were typically seen as hostile.

Some people would be irritated by all the stops and starts, but Eela was quietly delighted by the efficiency and discipline of it all. It wasn’t unlike when she was in the Starfleet Complex and could, for a short time, feel that familiar sense of discipline. There was just something in particular military and para-military organizations all had in common and that feeling was a strong one. The Starfleet captain in her was delighted, even if the whole thing took more time than felt necessary.

It was at the third (of six) checkpoint that the Agent-In-Charge stopped the three indivuals and said “Lieutenant Governor, welcome to CCDA Headquarters. I’m sorry Ma’am, but your escorts will have to remain here. They are not cleared to enter the CIC. But if you will follow me, Ma’am, I will escort you directly to Major General Tenkiller’s office. He’s expecting you.”

Dasca, dressed in an elegantly tailored dark blue suit with a purple blouse, gave the AIC a nod and winked at her detail. They simple nodded and took a step back. “Thank you,” she said to the Agent as she fell in step, her black leather work bag a constant presence on her right shoulder these days (much to her physiotherapists’s future displeasure, no doubt).

The AIC moved smoothly through the complex and pointed out some points of interest to the Lieutenant Governor. They were calm and engaged, and their emotions even and unflustered.

As they moved through the Platform, Eela was taking everything in with keen eyes. “How are things up here currently?” she asked curiously, always seeking a variety of opinions and feedback. After all, the ones who wrote the reports did not always see things as those under their command did. Both views were essential.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

“Good, Ma’am. We’re still sort of settling in, but the Command Staff has a clear vision and they keep us well-informed and on task. A lot different from Star Fleet, if you don’t mind me saying Ma’am.”
