She shook her head. “I’ve worked with multitudes of species, and I just spent the last five years with the diplomatic corps. My only request is that whomever you send my way is fine with dealing with empaths and telepaths. If they’re at all uncomfortable with me on that score, then I’m going to spend far too much energy filtering them out and I don’t need that hassle.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Tenkiller nodded once and said “Oh, I think we can manage to take that into account. Can you come to my office tomorrow? 1400 hours? I’ll have your candidates ready.”

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

Her gaze shifted away as she searched her memory for a few moments before looking at Tenkiller again, rather uncertain. “Possibly? I’ll let you know.” Her mouth curved into a tiny smirk. “I’ll have to check my schedule and I’m only two days in and Cort has me booked well into next week. I had a diplomatic aide these last few years, but they didn’t manage my schedule for me. This is a little bizarre all told.” She was used to deciding how and when she did things, unless there were specific orders. But Eela was as adaptable as they came and this was just something else to adjust to.

Planting her hands on the table and pushing herself t her feet with the whirring aide of her brace, she smiled at him. “Thank you Major General. I appreciate your help with this rather sensitive task.” She’d naturally deal with the fallout but Dasca had already been working through how to handle Command.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Tenkiller rode as she did and stood up straight at attention. “My pleasure, Lieutenant Governor. I hope to see you tomorrow, and if not, thats perfectly fine.” and he inclined his head slightly. “I’m sure the CCDA will be ready for you whenever you are ready for us, Ma’am.”

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

She smiled, one that was warm and sincere. “Hopefully tomorrow. It was nice to get to know you and I look forward to working together.” Dasca inclined her head and moved out of the room.

Rejoining the exhibit, the Lieutenant Governor took a moment to find Doctor Fayth and then wove her way over to Sharah, offering her a smile. “Well, that’s me done for the evening. I need rest, but it was great to run into you here.” She leaned in a little, though hesitation touched her face and emotions. “I… I was sincere in my offer earlier. I’m going to check out the farmers market on Saturday. If you’d like to join me, you’re more than welcome to and I’d be happy for the company. But… I know that hanging out with the boss can be a bit awkward, so I promise I won’t take offence if you say no.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Sharah turned from her contemplation to regard the Lt Gov. “Do you need anything from me?” A genuine question of care and concern. Fayth did refrain from stating she would take a ground car and not walk home.” Fayth shook her head. “Not awkward at all.” In fact Sharah has gotten close to two of her previous captains. “It is also safe to say being to close to fleet personnel could be risky for you. But if you are planning to go after 1100, I would be happy to join you.”

Fayth, SFCMO

The was a flux of emotion from Eela that she naturally wanted to tamp down but couldn’t. Such was her life now. As it stood though, Fayth’s simple acceptance reduced her to a simple nod, even if she was genuinely relieved. “After this first week? I don’t plan on dragging myself out of bed until I have to. After 1100 sounds great to me. Enjoy the rest of your evening, Sharah,” she said with a bow of her head. Kenzo had warned her the task of integrating herself into the colony would be a difficult one and that had quickly been made even more apparent as she met people. But it was as she had put to Fayth during their meeting: Eela needed someone on her side. Someone unafraid to see her as the person she was and not the role she held or the rank she had earned. She was more than that. So much more.

“I look forward to it, Eela. Have a pleasant evening.” Sharah knew the exhaustion of moving to a knew job, new home, trying to find your place in it all, and hiring the ground running. Of not knowing if you would be accepted and putting on a mask that was genuine but was also a shield. Oh yes she understood how Eela felt.

Stepping away, Dasca moved with fatigue, yes, but a subtle elation, not the least of which was because of the painting she had managed to acquire. Moving off to a corner, she discreetly asked a flummoxed assistant for a piece of paper, an envelope and a stylus. She wrote a brief note to the anonymous artist who had made her work of art:
Sometimes in life we are pinned in place by something unnameable, unspeakable. Something we dare not say aloud for fear it will crush us. But sometimes we also shown that if we can just hold space with that unspeakable moment, it can slowly begin to hold less power over us. Thus we can find healing, catharsis. For me this piece is exactly that. When it is is time, it will work its magic. Thank you, ~Eela Dasca.

She signed her name with the flourish of someone who had penned many a handwritten note and her writing was an elegant script. Moving over to Turner, she discreetly slipped the envelope into his hand along with instructions to arrange payment.

Without further ado, the new Lieutenant Governor slipped out of the opening as quietly as she had entered, at least feeling calm and centred about her distinctly wild decision to take this job. May the gods have a shred of mercy… she was going to need it.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Sharah should leave, get some rest and time from the demands and storms that raged. She wasn’t quite ready though. There were a few more pieces she wanted to see, hopefully the noise stayed manageable. She moved on to a metal sculpture that was simple, but colorful. A vase of Lillie’s in vibrant jewel colors.

Fayth, SFCMO

“Well… shit.” came a familiar voice from behind her as Tenkiller walked up and stood beside her. “She’s got me having to do actual work. And I think I need ta get on it before too many more beers. You staying, Doc? If not, I can drop ya somewhere if’n ya need a lift.”

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

Sharah turned giving him her attention. “Ah is that not the way it is. They judge our time valuable but only in the things they need?” Sharah like Eela as a person, as the Lt Gov, politician, and Brass…well the jury was still out. Eela had a lot on her plate and was just dropped here, but Sharah also understood Tenkiller’s sentiment.

Sharah considered, it was later than she had intended to linger and not walking alone was probably a good idea. “Thank you, I think I will take you up on that.” She placed her glass on the tray off a passing waiter and moved toward the exit.

Fayth, SFCMO
