A smile slipped onto her face again as she carefully closed the precious book. “Now that sounds like an excellent idea. I would be most grateful to employ your services. Understandably, we’ll have to clear everything through my security, but Cort, who you spoke with before, he can help arrange all that. I even know exactly where they should all go.” Her living and dinning space was open but there were walls along the entry hallway that would be a perfect place to have the displays along with all the images she was working on getting framed. It would be like a gallery of personal history and the thought made her very happy.

She handed the book to Massat. “For now, though I will entrust the book to continued safe keeping. I would hate for something to happen to it before we had everything in place to protect it.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Massat smiled and said “The book will be sent with you in a portable archival case. All you will need is a power source in your home. The backup power supply will last twenty-five hours, one Oed day. I assume you will be home within that time.” and they chuckled dryly. “And we are more than happy to accommodate whatever restrictions you may have with regards to access and such. So you know, all my employees have gone through a stringent background check prior to employment.”

“Then I’m sure it won’t be a problem and we’ll be able to make arrangements ,” Eela said with a genuine smile. There were times where she might have to butt heads with her security team but this was not one of them. If they wanted to assess contractors coming into her apartment, who was she to interfere? Besides, she promised herself to try not to do things to make them cranky given their already difficult job. “But when my personal effects do arrive, if you’re available, I would be grateful for some advice on a couple in particular. There is some damage on a couple that was sustained during an emergency and they’ve been kept in a safe place ever since, but I wouldn’t mind some guidance about perhaps remedying some of the damage.”

“Of course.” Massat replied with a smile. “It would be my pleasure.”

Rising to her feet, the comment about being out all-day, even as a joke, reminded her that there was so much work that needed to be done. “Thank you Karilan for not only the book, but also a much needed respite. I should go back downstairs though and get to work before my assistant decides it’s time to start letting calls through.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

“Of course. Right this way.” and they gestured to the stairs and followed her down. They accompanied her to the outermost door to the private study. “Enjoy your time, Lieutenant Governor. And again, if I can be if assistance, please let me know.” and they gave her a slight nod of the head and turned back to the main seating area.

Dasca gave Karilan a warm smile and headed into her little retreat. She helped herself to copious amounts of coffee and ordered some soup at one point, and even if she didn’t stop working while she ate, she felt productive and relaxed. There was something about the cozy little space that settled something restless and uncertain in her.

A couple hours later, Eela gathered up her belongings into her shoulder bag and stepped out of the nook. She quickly found Karilan and reached out to touch their elbow with her fingertips. “Thank you so much for your hospitality. This was lovely and very much needed. I’ll be back.”
