The week had been exhausting.

In the first few days, Molly had ran almost solely on adrenaline. The accident, Lucas and Cal, Hudson and Halloway sending her home, Newton and the Syndicate, Ryan showing up, the bickering between the CCDA and HHI’s security, the protests, having to fight with her own company to be given something to do… and through all of it, the Sacred Heart’s medical staff had been more than accommodating, working tirelessly to make sure that Calvin and her uncle were progressing well, and that her needs and the needs of her personnel were met. They had been nothing but outstanding.

Finally, after a long week, things seemed to be starting to wind down. Calvin was finally up and about, although not as much as he would like, but Ali, Jersey and Boomer kept him busy. Lucas was still unconscious, but finally free from support units and neuro-suppressors, and resting on his own. Dominique would come by every morning to check on him and update Molly on company business. Other than that, the younger Holloway worked, trying to take her mind off of things, hoping to make the wait more bearable. She slept when she felt tired, and ate when Nurse Ilena reminded her to do so, which after a week was quite regularly. It was not unusual for her to be found working at 3am under the soft light of a small desk lamp, and found asleep in the afternoon.

Today was no different. Having figured out the pattern of the bioregenerative field and having gotten acquainted with the soft beep it produced when it was about to restart, Molly had fallen asleep propped over the side of the biobed. Her hands and head resting peacefully on its edge. Her slumber, however, was far from a peaceful one, the events surrounding the shuttlecraft accident slowly bringing back memories of events that she had spent the last few years in therapy trying to cope with. She rustled in her sleep, as screams she hadn’t heard in a long time slowly filled her mind again.

Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries

“Missile Launch!” Sensor Tech First Class Eveline Guenièvre barked in a panicked tone. Lucas’ eyes grew wide then clamped tightly shut as his 50 million credit Executive Shuttlecraft rolled suddenly hard to Starboard and dove nearly straight down. The next voice he heard was that of veteran HHI pilot Neil Ramsay, who snapped the comm open. =A= This is Holloway One… declaring an emergency…=A=

Holloway couldn’t believe it, it was a nightmare! Screwing his eyes closed, the magnate fought to not lose his lunch after the craft killed the Inertial Compensator. He was thankful he had on his safety belt. Harris… the love of his Gracie’s life… was not as lucky, the former pilot flying across the cabin after his belt failed… slamming first into the Port bulkhead then, as the craft snapped into a dive that would make any pilot proud, fell straight down… nearly falling through the cockpit hatch.

The pilot’s voice sounded strained as he dutifully reported. =A= … Missile inbound! Bearing 247, mark 3 nin…=A= Then… came the explosion. The violence, the heat… in that moment, Lucas’ life flashed before his eyes. In the sudden blackness… Lucas’ thoughts went first to his parents… then his brother… his beloved nieces… and, of course, Mary. He saw fleeting moments of them all… good and bad… Gracie’s first breath… sweet Mary’s last. He didn’t want to die… but… he thought, he must be. Then, a warm light embraced him. “Lucas…” Though it had been over two decades, he knew the voice instantly. “Mary!” He turned, his eyes full of tears. “Where… where am I?!” Mary just shook her head, putting a single finger to his lips. “You have to go back Luc’, our girls need you.” Lucas’ tears flowed. “But Mary… I NEED you! I…” Mary once more put a finger to his lips. “I’ll be here, my love… when it is time. But Molly & Erin need you… your strength… and your love.” Lucas wanted to scream, to reach out, to hold her once more… he felt numb, like he hadn’t in years. “Please Mary… don’t make me go!” He pleaded. The beautiful redhead he had seen only in his dreams for over 20 years smiled, her eyes sad. “You’ve done more than I could have ever asked Luc’… but you have to go back. You still have many years… but I will be right here, waiting for that walk in Central Park.” Holloway was now on his knees sobbing. “Please… Mary… please!” Then, Lucas felt a pair of hands on his shoulders and looked up into the most beautiful eyes he knew he’d ever see. Without a word, Mary leaned forward and kissed him, softly, exactly as he remembered. As they kissed, Lucas felt a single hand slip to the center of his chest. Opening his eyes once more, Mary smiled. “I love you Lucas” She said softly… then a jolt of electricity struck out from her hand.

Lucas Holloway shook violently from the defibrillator, a gasp escaping him before his world once again… after a burst of pain and noise… went completely black.

It was mid-afternoon when the Nursing station received the very gentle tone indicating Lucas Elliot Holloway was waking up. In his room, Holloway slowly opened his eyes… letting them slowly focus. Seeing the hospital room, the man figured out rather quickly what had happened after the explosion and was about to attempt to call the doc when a soft sound got his attention. Gracie was right there, he’d know the top of that red head anywhere. Lucas smiled slightly and lifted his hand on top of her head, gently rubbing his niece’s head, a single tear fell as he said in a rough voice. “And… exactly how long… have you been there… Gracie?”

Lucas Holloway

Crockett was Manning the desk as always. She heard the beep and checked the readouts. She called to Ilena in the break room and pages Dr. Fayth.

There was an unintelligible mumble and a muffled sob before the voice and the touch brought Molly back from her slumber. As she inhaled deeply and rose her head from the edge of the bed, the younger Holloway found herself staring at a pair of eyes she had not yet expected to see just yet. She blinked, confusion visible on her frame, as the clearly only half awake Molly thought she was still dreaming.

“Not much…” She replied nonchalantly, stretching her back and straightening herself up in her chair as if it was the most natural conversation in the world. “… about a week I think… time does fly–” And then reality settled down around her. Her eyes widening as she took in the man talking to her. “Uncle Luc… you’re awake!” There was a wide smile, one of the widest Lucas had ever seen on his niece’s face, before Molly took his hand in hers, the same way she had done almost every night for the previous week. “Oh God, you’re okay! You’re okay, you’re okay…” The last words were muffled, as the CEO of one of the largest companies in the sector buried her face in her uncle’s palm and cried.

Molly

Ilena hurried to the room but paused, wanting to give Molly a moment with her uncle, her father really, before intruding. From the door she could see the readings over the bed and hear the alarms if they went off.

Lucas lifted his other hand onto the top of Molly’s head. “Now now Gracie…” The elder Holloway said in a rasp. “… I’m… I’m ok. That’s…” He smiled softly. “… nothing to cry about. Please…” Holloway took a slow, steadying breath. “… I’m here. I’m ok. That’s what matters.” He then looked suddenly very concerned. “Oh Gracie…! Did… did Calvin make it? Why aren’t you with him?” Lucas’ tone was strained and the cardiac monitor indicated an increase in heart rate as the thought of Harris dawned on him. “Please tell me he’s ok!” The magnate said in a focused tone.

Lucas

“Calvin in fine.” Molly said. The words muffled, uttered still on Lucas’s palm. Slowly she sat back up, wiping her tears as she did so. “I’m sorry Uncle Luc… I shouldn’t…” Her voice faltered and she cleared her throat. “It’s been a hard week.” She shook her head. Still, there was no reason for her to worry Lucas by breaking down the moment he regained consciousness. Molly sighed softly. “Calvin is fine. He’s been his usual self and annoying the nursing staff.” She chuckled. “He has company. Alexis is here… her and Brianna have been keeping him busy and making sure he doesn’t do anything stupid… like refusing to go to his PT appointments.”

“Good…” Lucas said weakly. “… I’d hate something to happen to him…” He sighed. “… because of me.” After a pause, Lucas continued. “Now, Gracie… you stop that mess. I’ve had likely the easiest part of my time here. And knowing you… you most certainly had the worst. I’m glad the girls are here to look after their dad but…” He reached up and gently touched Molly’s face. “Now… you’ve gotten me up to speed on most everyone else. The question is, Gracie, what have you been up to and how are you doing? Who’s been looking after you?”

“As for me…” Molly continued. “… this was the quieter room.” She smiled motioning to the PaDDs on top of the small medical cart she was using as a table. There was no point in telling Lucas the real reason as to why she was there and not with Cal. At least not at the moment. Newton’s threat seemed to not have come to fruition and the man’s heart already had enough strain to deal with without further worrying him. “I made this cart my new office and been managing what I can from here.” For a moment, the younger Holloway pondered about talking about Dominique and both women’s disagreements about what Molly should or should not be doing for the past few days, but she was sure that her uncle would be tired and in need of rest. Not to be dumped with everything that happened while he was unconscious.

Lucas smirked slightly, looking rather proudly at Molly. “Here we are… blown up… and you’ve just been plugging along on work.” Holloway chuckled softly and patted her hand. “I do believe your ol’ Uncle is rubbing off on you, Gracie.”

“Now…” Molly squeezed his hand, not having let go of it from the moment he had woken up. “… you need to rest. Let me call someone.” She said as she pressed the call button on the biobed to alert the medical staff.

Molly

“Gracie…” Lucas said softly, motioning to the calendar on the wall. “… sweetheart, if that calendar is right… I think I’ve had quite enough rest.” He smiled softly. “Though arguing that point with you… I’d likely lose!”

=^=Lt Ilena Rox, Nurse, Sacred Heart Hospital, Star Fleet, Oed V, Betazoid.=^= The biometric reader announced her arrival. She smiled, genuine relief and joy to see Lucas awake and to see Molly’s relief. “Good afternoon Mr. Holloway. My name is Ilena, I’m your nurse, and mother hen to your niece here ” She smiled good naturedly at Molly, “Only joking, a little.” She carried a small tray in with her and set it down. “I brought you some water.” Which she handed to Molly to help him with. “Can you tell me your full name and date of birth?”

Lucas chuckled. “I can imagine the challenge. I can’t thank you enough for looking after my little girl in my absence.” There was a note of warm sincerity in his voice. When she asked his name and birth, Lucas smiled warmly. “Of course Dear… Lucas Elliot Holloway the sixth, born November 25th, 2349, Creve Coeur, Missouri, United States.”

What do you mean, the challenge!? Molly’s words in mock offense came through to her brain, but she never had the time to say them. Instead she chuckled at both Ilena and Lucas’s words. Still, Nurse Ilena had absolutely been the ‘mother hen’ she had needed and Molly was incredibly grateful, and her uncle’s words about her being ‘his little girl’ warmed her heart more than she’d ever admit.

Ilena nodded and gave Molly a reassuring smile. “Do you know where you are Mr. Holloway and why you are here?” She was sure that piece of information had come up in the brief conversation he and Molly had had before she entered. However it was a question meant to see how aware he was and how his memory and reasoning skills were working. Being asleep for so long and after such trauma could make the brain slow to begin processing again. It was a normal symptom and usually faded quickly. He had also had a concussion so that made things a little more grey.

Not long after =^=Lt Sharah Fayth, acting Chief of Staff, Doctor, Sacred Heart Hospital, Star Fleet, Oed V, Betazoid=^= Ilena looked up from taking his vitals at the announcement. Her hand dropping to a pocket of her lab coat and then smiling. “And here is your doctor.”

Fayth made her way over and reached down to take his hand so he did have to lift it. “I am Dr. Fayth. How are you feeling, Mr Holloway?”

Fayth, SFCMO

There was a slow breath that escaped Holloway before he took a deep breath and offered his hand, a glowing smile across his features. “I’m feeling as best as… I could expect Doctor. On behalf of both myself and my… family, I thank you… for all you have done for us.” Fayth could tell the words took it out of him to say, but she could also feel the fierce determination for him to say them. “I don’t remember much…” He sighed with a soft smile. “… but from what I do remember… I’m certain you had your.... hands full. The fact that I’m… talking to you right now… is a testament to the… skill and knowledge of you and… your team.” Lucas’ eyes misted up slightly as he took a deep breath, focused on saying the next sentence completely through. “I owe you and your team my life, Dr. Fayth. I cannot find words appropriate enough to thank you for giving me…” He squeezed Molly’s hand. “… and my family a second chance. You all truly are heroes and if there is anything I can ever do to give back to this fine institution, you have but only to ask.”

Lucas Holloway

Molly smiled when Lucas squeezed her hand. She knew the sentiment as she felt just as grateful to the hospital’s staff for making sure that the two most important men in her life were able to get out of the whole ordeal alive. However, she knew that she’d never had words to express it. Molly could only hope that their Betazoid faculties allowed both doctor and nurse to sense it.

Seeing the strain to speak, Fayth reached over for the bed controls and inclined the bed a few degrees to take some of the strain off of him, but not too far to make the strain worse. It was a delicate balance. Sharah smiled and patted his hand. “Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Holloway. Your friend General Harris figured that out not quite as quickly, and his second in command Gen Tenkiller is worse than he is.” Ilena snorted trying to hold back laughter, then coughed and mumbled, “Sorry,” a poorly hidden grin on her face. The short doctor pulled a stool over and sat, lifting it enough she and Holloway were eye to eye. She spoke slowly and enunciated clearly, watching for any signs of confusion or intense pain. “The only thing you owe us, is to get better and follow directions. We’ll skip the full physical for the moment. Right now I would like you to tell me what you are feeling, physically. This includes pain, soreness, stiffness, if your forearm right in the middle on your thumb side itches. It’s a big question to answer, so take your time.”

“Doctors…” Holloway huffed playfully. “… can never seem to… take a compliment.” Lucas smiled slightly. “Well… if you’ve already been dealing with those jackasses, I’ll be nice. I feel…” The elder Holloway looked in thought for a moment. “… a little sore and stiff. Like I… sorta expect after such a crash.” He then lifted his arms slightly and flexed both hands. “My arms both feel…” Lucas winched. “… weird. Nothing unsettling just a bit… different. I’d assume I broke the damn things. As for behaving myself…” The man smiled once more. “… I promise to follow directions, get better…” He smirked. “… and get out of your hair as soon as possible.”

Molly’s lips shaped into a smirk at the mention of Cal and Tenkiller’s ‘flattery’, shooting a smile at Ilena as the nurse tried to hide her laughter. She couldn’t blame her.

While he thought Sharah turned to Ilena, “Get him some juice, nothing citrus, but I’m sure it will taste like ambrosia after so long.” Ilena nodded and stepped out of the room for a few minutes.

Fayth, SFCMO

Pulling her chair and her makeshift table away from the biobed to allow Doctor Fayth to work, Molly’s gaze returned to the PaDDs she had been working with. Quietly, she piled them neatly, hoping to stay out of the doctor’s way, yet too distracted with what was going on to shift her focus back to her work.

Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries

Lucas looked to Fayth and asked. “Will there be anything else Doctor?”

Holloway, HHI

“I imagine you have a lot of questions, but most pressing wanting to know what happened to you?” Fayth looked up at the monitors checking his heart.

Lucas gulped slightly, his heart rate ticking up just a tad before leveling off once more. “You Sacred Heart folks get straight to the point, huh?” Holloway tried to smile warmly, but both women could tell he was visibly nervous as to hear what happened to him out loud, yet he pressed on. “I remember bits and pieces Doctor… but I am wondering what happened to me. Why I’m so stiff and…” He squinted to see the digital clock across the room. “… when it was bad enough for me to lose a week of my life?”

“You were in a crash and were severely injured. As you have guessed, broken arms, broken leg with a severed artery, a concussion, and came in with Hypovolemic shock.” She wanted to give him small bursts of information to make sure she didn’t shock him and overwork his heart, or agitate him enough to attempt to get up.

Fayth, SFCMO

“Hypovolemic shock…” He said softly, his face going white. “… Jesus.” His voice a whisper as the implications dawn on the man. “How much… blood did your team have to put back in…” Holloway appeared to have changed the direction of his thoughts mid-sentence. After a pause, Lucas looked Dr. Fayth in the eye and, squeezing Molly’s hand in his, asked the CMO very softly. “Doctor… I would really like to know… did I die?” The question was spoken in a way that would give Molly chills, the sudden haunted look behind the man’s normally bright eyes made the room frosty.

Holloway, HHI
