Ai walked into her new office at Sacred Heart Hospital and took a moment to assess it. It was built with fresh air and health as a priority. Fresh air from the outside arrived in floor vents and left through the ceiling directly above, lowering the risk of exposure to potential airborne extraterrestrial viruses. The building itself was a different kind of medical supplement to complement the precise delivery of healthcare to the citizens of the colony. She wasn’t certain how she would split her time between her two offices, the other office being at the Government Building, but she was grateful she had the option to do so.
Mikah walked in after her carrying two laptop-sized PaDDs. She handed one to Ai, the other she placed on the desk as she walked over to it and began typing on a seemingly invisible keyboard. It took Ai a moment to realize that the keyboard was a state-of-the-art wireless laser projection Bluetooth virtual keyboard that acted very much like a real one in that you could shift it around the desk as needed.

“I am going to get you all set up.” She said as a holographic display monitor appeared in thin air. Her eyes never left the monitor as she continuedspeaking to Ai. “You already have some work. A transmission was sent from the Governors’ offices. You must review it and send back a response.”

Mikah, Admin Assistant DMSS

“Oh, really? They sent me work already?” she said with a tone that attempted to hide the fact that she really was surprised and disappointed with having get to work right way. Ai loved to work but she wasn’t a workaholic. This was only her second day and she’d foolishly hoped for at least a week to get settled in. “What is it about?”

Ai Oshiro, DMSS

“Huh?” Asked Mikah looking up at Ai. She squinted her eyes at her boss then said, “You was hoping for some time to go to those office supply and furniture stores to pick out some items for your office and apartment, weren’t you?”

“No…I…its fine. What are the documents about that the Governors sent over?”

Mikah put her hand on her hip and stared at Ai until she raised her eyebrows and did the hurry up motion with her hands. Mikah cleared her throat and said, “I read them briefly but it’s about the Vren. Apparently they want to visit the colony and talk peace. I will go pull some history and whatever else I can find on the Vren so you can review it, as soon as I am done here.” As she completed the set up like an expert IT tech she said, “Your monitor has a security display which means that it must be directly facing you in order to make out what is on it. Also you must be wearing you security badge to access the information. Anyone who does not have your clearance and password will not be allowed to access any information on your computer, with the exception of the Governors, of course and their authorized staff. Pretty cool huh?”

Aiofemi nodded and said, “Wow! Thank you?”

Mikah stood in front of Ai and said, “You didn’t know I could set you up like that did you? You thought you were going to have call IT, didn’t you?” she asked with a victorious smile. She placed her left hand on Ai’s right shoulder then said, “I told you. I got you. You are not going to have to worry about anything but the politics of your job.” She dropped her hand, turned walked to the desk, and picked up her PaDD, “Now.” She said as her fingers gently tapped the PaDD, ” I am going to schedule a meeting with the Chief Starfleet Medical Officer, Sharah Fayth for you. I believe she works in the building so did you want me set the meeting up in either one of your offices or would prefer a lunch meeting of site?”

Mikah, Admin Assistant DMSS

“Let’s do a lunch meeting. I am sure she would appreciate a reason leave the building for a while.” Said Ai as she walked over to her desk and sat. “I guess I better get to work.”

After spending about 45 minutes reading the transmission the Governors had sent and analyzingthe Vren data, Ai sat at her desk and sifted through a series of thoughts for another half hour before before she began responding to the briefing. After she had finished recording her response, she sent the transmission.
