Elema smiled. “Thank you, and yes, I am Napean,” she said as she hit a button on her console.

Moving around the counter, Sreer moved down the partial hall. “If you’ll come with me.” They passed by a small meeting room (currently empty) on the right, and on the left was a slightly larger office space where a tall man with dark brown hair and a beard. Elema waved to him and he moved from his desk to the doorway, smiling at the new Director.

Aiofemi followed Elema.

“Director Oshiro, I’m Cort Belanger, Dasca’s Executive Assistant,” he said, offering her his hand. “Most things come through me, so if you need to meet with the Lieutenant Governor at any point, call me and I’ll arrange it.”

She offered her hand back to Cort. She looked at Elema and then Cort, “So you schedule the meetings?” Then she looked at Elema and said, “What do you do?”

The two assistants exchanged a grin. “We manage all of Dasca’s affairs,” Cort said. “Yes, meetings are a part of that, but I assure you it’s the least of it, though her schedule is a beast to navigate.”

“I manage most of the day-to-day affairs of the office, making sure we all have the resources we need to get our work done. That and I am often the first person people meet when they arrive on this floor. I

Once the introductions were done, Sreer opened the door, admitting them both into the large rectangular office, which took over the corner of the building and was filled with windows directly ahead and to the right. Dasca’s polished black desk was L-shaped and set in the right corner so her back was to the windows, but she could gaze out along the long side. Currently, on this pleasant sunny day, the windows were strategically tinted to block glare on her computer screen. In front of her desk were two chairs backed by a decorative screen made of transparent glass tiles creating a mosaic of a mountainous landscape with a large waterfall. Hooked off the side of her desk was a simple black cane that nearly blended into the desk.

Aiofemi took note of the cane.

On the other side of the screen was a large oval table in the same black polished wood as her desk. It was set with many chairs around it that could double as a meeting space as well as a dining table. Adjacent to that in what was framed as a U-Shaped sitting nook were a large dark blue couch flanked by two light grey arm chairs nestled around an oval coffee table. It was something of an art piece, with a clear glass top and the base was a dark wood spiral that narrowed down to a round footing. Matching side tables were tucked in the ‘corners’ between the sofa and arm chairs.

Throughout the space were plants of various sizes from small trees to a living arrangement on her desk in a stone bowl. Hanging plants were strategically hung from the ceiling to take up blank space or help divide the large office into the cozier work and lounge areas. The interior walls were bare still, but then again Dasca had only been there a short while.

Aiofemi lifted her head and eyes to look at the plants hanging from the ceiling. It was a good sign that the Lieutenant Governor loved plants, it meant she was probably patient as well as tenacious and kind. This made Aiofemi feel less nervous and more inclined to meeting her. As they approach a woman sitting at a desk, Ai made eye contact.

Rising from her desk, Eela Dasca cut an elegant figure in black trousers, white blouse and a mid-thigh length black jacket embroidered all over in a floral pattern. Her black hair was swept into a twist, the subtle silver streaks swirling. “Welcome to Oed, Director Ohsiro. Come let’s have a chat, shall we?” she said, her warm yes taking in the woman as she gestured to the sitting area.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov

“Thank you, Captain....um..Governor. Which title do you prefer I use when greeting you? She asked as she took a seat.

Ai Oshiro, DMSS

Eela smiled as she sat, the slight whir of her antigrav brace just barely audible. “Captain is fine out of habit, but I prefer to leave my Starfleet rank for Starfleet situations. So Lieutenant Governor, or Ma’am are fine.”

“Ma’am it is then.” Ai said with a smile.

The door opened and Sreer walked in with two mugs. Eela smiled warmly at her assistant as she set the tea in front of Oshiro and a fresh coffee in front of Dasca. “Thank you, Elema.”

“You’re welcome,” she said returning the smile. “He’ll be ready for you in a few minutes,” Elema said.

“Thank you,” Ai said slightly bowing her head.

“Perfect,” Dasca said as she reached for the coffee, a gleam appearing in her hazel eyes. She waited till Sreer left, then focused on their new health services director. “So… you are moving from a Chief Medical Officer on a starship to running the entire health services ministry that serves 4 million people, civillians no less. How do you plan on managing such a large shift in responsibilities.” She sipped, gazing at Aiofemi over the edge of the mug.

~Eela Dasca. Lt. Gov.

Ai took a sip of her tea then smiled, “I will not lie to you. I am absolutely terrified. Four million is a lot and I saw the projections. The colony is expected to grow even more in the future. However as a doctor, still certified, even though I will be rarely using my medical skills in this position, I work well under pressure.” Ai paused a moment to figure out how to answer the Lt. Governor’s question and she realized before she could she had a few questions of her own. “I think the the first thing I need to know, before I am able to answer your question is what are the limits of my position? I am also curious to know how does Starfleet fit into everything and how will I be liasioning with them? I noticed there is a CMO from Starfleet stationed at the hospital. What is her role? Is Starfleet proving care to their own officers out of the Hospital?”
