Sharah’s meeting had been scheduled for a bit. What she also noticed was McBride hadn’t made time for his physical. Her console beeped to remind her it was time to leave. She paged Eraras and told him she’d be out of the hospital. She grabbed a medkit and stepped through the hospital and made her way back toward the Fleet complex. She supposed a car would be faster, but she didn’t mind walking. Moving was better than sitting still.

She waved at the security officers at the entrance and made her way through the corridors until she reached the COs planetside ready room. She pressed the chime and waited to be given entrance. While she stood there she tugged at her uniform and shrugged her lab coat straight and tucked a random strand of her medusa like curls behind her ear.

“Come in,” he said.

Inside the modest office, McBride had unpacked at least a little, but it was clear by his desk and the copious piles of PADDs that he had been inundated with work. The windows behind him were tinted currently to filter some of the bright sunlight and cut the glare on his screen as he worked. To his left was a sitting area with a replicator and while there was furniture there, it was the standard. Looking up, McBride smiled at Fayth as she entered. “Doctor, it’s good to see you. What can I do for you?”

Sharah wondered why COs always did that. Open a standard meet and greet departmental status meeting with ‘what can I do for you’. It was always made her feel like she was ill prepared for the meeting or she was bothering them - no matter what her empathy may say. As far as Sharah was concerned, right now, there was nothing she needed from McBride, except to get this meeting completed so work could continue. She walked over to the desk and smiled neutrally. “Actually Captain I was going to ask you the same thing. You asked for a meeting after we submitted our audits, so here I am. What can I and the medical department do for you?”

Fayth, SFCMO

He grinned, and as usual it made him seem younger, boyish. He certainly moved about with a certain stereotypical swagger of a cocky pilot, but beneath that surface and most evident in Jonathan’s eyes was a deep intelligence. “True. So let me then ask ask how I can help you because I’ve read the audit and yours is a slightly unique and complicated situation here on the colony. Aside from letting Dasca chew out Admirals who piss you off, what is it you need most right now in order to do your job most effectively?”

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

Sharah had an immediate answer. It was something that she had been thinking about since talking to Eela. “I need a good solid AMO. The truth of the matter is, Cpt it doesn’t matter what rotations we do or who is supposed to be on call. Our medical facilities are here on the planet, not the ship. Just because I am on call to respond to the Centurion doesn’t mean I can. Say for instance I’m in surgery. The percentage of that happening is low, but it could. So I need someone who is in that position to be ship or planet side. Wherever I am not. That way the whole department knows who is in charge.”

Fayth, SFCMO

McBride nodded. “We can make that happen. Would you prefer to pick someone from your current team or bring in someone new you can freshly train?” Both had their advantages and challenges but it really came down to preference and if there was actually someone suitable on the team already. There might not be, after all.

“Dr. C’tain is an excellent doctor, level headed, and mostly works well with others. However she has no administrative experience at all and has never worked in a hospital before coming to Oed.” Sharah had. She’d spent most of her childhood in and out of the hospital and doctor offices. As well as all her early classes and the doctors who tutored her in them. “I have no objection to Dr C’tain, but I think it would benefit her to be assigned to stay with the Centurion for awhile, to get used to the duties. Taking my place at Sacred Heart is a lot more massive a work load to toss her into.” It did not go past Sharah’s notice the irony that C’Tain was Vulcan. “Otherwise I would like someone who already has some experience working the medical facilities on a colony or outpost, or even some administrative background. I don’t mind training someone, but know they could quite suddenly be on their own, it would be ideal if they had some prior experience.”

Fayth, SFCMO

“Okay,” Jonathan said. “I will look into it. If I come up with some good candidates other than C’tain, I’ll send the files over and you can give me your recommendation.”

“How are we doing supply-wise? I know the colony is well stocked as a rule, but Starfleet has a large contingent and we use up resources and I don’t want our crew taking away from anything unnecessarily. Anything we need to restock more frequently or that you foresee might be an issue in the next few months?” he asked.
