If there was one meeting this week that was actually easy in terms of logistics, this one was it. Cort had managed to find half hour with the Police Commissioner that fit both their schedules this week (a miracle and half, that) and all it meant was taking the lift down two floors. That easy. Didn’t mean the meeting itself would be, but at least one tiny thing would be easy. She could use a little of bit of ease just now.

Stepping off the lift, Dasca cut a trim figure even if she was moving a little slower today. It seemed to be getting worse over the week and there was crap all she could do about it just now till she had a day off or hell, even a full evening. In a black suit with a long cut open blazer and a colourful floral blouse, the new Lieutenant Governor approached the reception desk with ease.

“Lieutenant Governor Dasca, how can we help you?” a young woman said with a smile that Eela could tell was sincere if ever so slightly wary.

“I have a meeting with Commissioner Karlson. Can you let him know I’m here?”

“Of course, Ma’am. Just give me a moment,” she said before heading off to inform the Commissioner of the new arrival.

“Please walk right in, the Commissioner is prepared Ma’am” The receptionist said after returning.

The door to the Commissioners office was a large piece of carved dark oak with an old metallic door handle. Inside the office was a large room, immidiately to the left were several bookcases with actual physical books, mostly Federation law, Oed local law, history books and several books on Criminology and other related fields. Several shelfs had holopics of the Police commissioner with several notable members of bothe Oed and Federation society, Former Governors and Lieutenant Governors, Starfleet Chiefs of Security and photos of the full Cabinet throughout the past decade. There were also photos of the Commissioner in his younger years in Military unform with other members of the Marine Corps, Starfleet flag officers and Federation Presidents.

To the right was a more open area with a small seating area with a sofa and several armchairs in a semi-circle facing the view of the colony which from one of the top floors was quite spectacular. There were two other doors, another wooden door that presumably led to a private restroom and a metallic door with a keypad next to it, the door was marked “CSS Room”

At the far end of the room a large wooden desk with two chairs opposite it sat Karlson himself. Joseph was a large man, tall and wide, with a muscular figure despite his age. The only real signs of age were slight wrinkles around his eyes and hair that was mostly grey and a pair of spectacles on his face, he didn’t exactly look like a man in his early seventies, perhaps in his early fifties. His smile however was grandfatherly, kind, and understanding what most people got from it. He stood up and turned that smile to Dasca “Lieutenant Governor Dasca, a pleasure. Please have a seat” He gestured to the chair then put his rather large hand for her to shake. He spoke with a slight Scandinavian accent.

She did indeed shake his hand after taking in the room with a critical eye, but took it in both of her own, shook it once and bowed her head.

“Thank you for making time for me. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind and meetings start to bleed into each other, but I have to admit I’ve been rather looking forward to this one,” she said as she took a seat. She and Karlson were of a similar age (she only a few years younger) and they were both veterans of the Dominion War. It had bene long enough now that there was an entire generation of Starfleet officers, enlisted and Marines that hadn’t bene born or had just been babies when the war ended. An entire generation removed for those terribly difficult years where the future had felt bleak and sometimes hopeless. Years that had woven themselves sometimes harshly into the survivors. In certain moments they could recognize each other too- there was a look in their eyes when the War came up as a topic of discussion. No matter how one served, they saw each other. At least in Eela’s case, she felt (and certainly hoped) that their mutual service was a connection between them rather than a way someone might have to resent Eela’s role here on Oed.

Joseph smiled at her response “As have I, Ma’am” He sat back down in his chair. He had actually looked forward to this, although he wasn’t one to complain it would be good to have someone his own age to work with. The only others on the colony, besides some elderly civilians, were his Wife and brother. Well of course his right-hand man Pangolin was the same age but his Vulcan heritage meant that he had a different view on his age “I have somewhat of an open office policy for members of the Cabinet, most of my meetings don’t require me to actually be involved” He said half-jokingly “Can I offer you something to drink” He reached down and opened a small cooler in his desk “I have fresh juice from real apples and oranges, as well as imported water from Earth, prefer that over using my replicator”
