“Oh me!” Jessie was the youngest of the group. She was a CNA and still in school to get her LPN certifications. She was totally taken in by Harris’ charm and flirtations. She tucked her hand into his elbow as they left the table. Ilena laughed and looked at Amelia. “I feel bad for Harris. Jessie might have a bit of a crush.” Then Ilena and the others were quickly persuaded away to dance.

The General smiled that standard, charming fighter pilot smile that had been breaking hearts for years as he led the young woman out onto the dance floor. Resting a rather respectful hand on her waist, the pair moved along with the music.

With a smile on her lips, Amelia’s gaze followed the young nurse as she eagerly jumped at the opportunity to dance with Harris. “Don’t feel bad for him.” Amelia laughed at Ilena’s comment. “I assure you he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s just that cocky.” She said jokingly shooting Harris her biggest smirk, hoping he might catch sight of it. “I’d feel bad for her though.” Amelia motioned to the young nurse with her chin. Manning still remembered the amount of young women on the Dresden with crushes on the ship’s Captain, who would swoon the moment they caught sight of the man. That was until they found out that his partner was none other than the ship’s Chief Intelligence Officer, one of the scariest people on board. The truth was, for as many fall outs as the couple had had in the past, Calvin Harris and Molly Holloway trusted each other incredibly deeply, and for as terrifying as Molly could seem, she didn’t care one bit about the gaggle of women that would follow Cal around. The only issue was… she liked to have fun with it every once in a while. And the worst part was, she didn’t even have to say anything, she simply had to exist. Amelia turned back to face Ilena. “Molly doesn’t bite, but she definitely likes to pretend she does, even if only for her own amusement.”

Harris caught the smirk and glared back as the young nurse pulled him a bit closer in their dance. Nor a word He mouthed.

Yavia laughed watching Jessie flushing quite prettily over the general. It was a rich sound that made others want to laugh with her. “Oh no, Jessie will be fine. She is in love with their love story more than anything. She knows absolutely nothing about it, but her imagination keeps her happy.”

Sharah had to smile at Jessie’s enthusiasm. Everyone at the table did. She hoped Harris knew what he had gotten himself into. The nurses would ensure that he earned every second of his PT for the week. They had all, nurses and patients, earned a night of fun, and she was glad they were getting it.

As the music died down, a voice from the stage said to the crowd “Well y’all check out the General, will ya? That right there, ladies and gentlemen, is how we do it in Oklahoma.” and Tenkiller laughed loudly as the music picked up and the band began to play. Tenkiller said “This next one goes out to anybody thinkin’ they can mess with us or our own Oed V…” and he began to sing:

The General laughed at his Vice calling him out again, giving a nod to the band.

I hear them talkin’ under their breath
Their lips don’t move but I know what they say
I see ‘em lookin’ me up and down
Hidin’ their smiles like I’m some kind of clown
They don’t know what you don’t know

I’m gonna hurt you as much as I can
And watch you cry and die where you stand
I wanna hear your tears hit the floor
I’m gonna hurt you, and hurt you some more

I felt the air sucked out of the room
What the hell did you get into?
They just assume that I must be blind
Man, I wish they could read my mind
‘Cause they don’t know what you don’t know

I’m gonna walk right up to your friends
I’m gonna tell them ‘bout the mess you’re in
You’re gonna watch their jaws hit the floor
I’m gonna hurt you, and hurt you some more

I’m gonna hurt you like you never hurt
I’m gonna drive your name in the dirt
You won the battle but I’ll win the war
I’m gonna hurt you, and hurt you

I’m gonna hurt you as much as I can
And watch you cry and die where you stand
I wanna hear your tears hit the floor
I’m gonna hurt you, and hurt you some more
I’m gonna hurt you, and hurt you some more

Tenkiller

Being in the crowd was overwhelming and Sharah put effort into focusing on the instruments and the words. The latter cut deep, hitting a still bleeding wound. She couldn’t understand why, and that unanswered question left an aching whole.

Fayth’s heartache was almost tangible to Yavia, and she put an arm around the doctor and gave her a small hug. She knew Sharah wasn’t big on physical contact, Yavia even understood why. Yavia also knew that sometimes you needed to know you aren’t alone. There was one way Sharah was very alone, had been her whole life. It was cruel and Yavia was not afraid of Sharah’s telepathy. ‘Don’t listen to the words. Feel how the music affects them. They all share a common pride.‘ As a server passed Yavia ordered two Uttaberry Juices.

Yavia and nurses

Sharah sighed and nodded to Yavia’s advice that sounded in her head. The focused feeling of fierce pride from so many was moving and much more positive than her own take on the words. She leaned into Yavia, letting her hug her, despite that being the opposite of her instinct. Accepting the support where it was given. Yavia was wild and a bit crazy, but when it came to caring for others, there was no one more compassionate and tranquil.

Fayth

Amelia couldn’t help but notice the doctor’s uneasiness, but thought it best not to interfere. Instead, she motioned for the waiter and ordered a glass of tonic water. She sighed. It would have been the perfect night for a glass of whiskey, or to try new alcoholic delicacies from different parts of the quadrant that had more trouble reaching Earth. It was for a good cause though, not to mention, if Cal asked, she could try to convince him that there was gin in it.

Capt. Amelia Manning

Sharah nodded to Manning. “I know you came for Gen Harris and Molly, but how are you finding Oed, Cpt? Have you had a chance to do more than make visits to the hospital?” Sharah wasn’t feeling the event. Things like this were hard for her. She was certainly enjoying the music, but large crowds, lots of alcohol, high energies, blown off steam, and late hours made large crowds harder. That however was no need to be rude and she wasn’t supposed to be wallowing. She was supposed to be trying, and Manning was a new arrival. Sharah knew what that was like.

Amelia smiled at the doctor. “Oh, it’s not my first time in OED. Me and Pete have actually lived here for almost a year about six years ago.” She sighed as she realized what she had said. “It’s amazing to think how much time has passed now…” She chuckled. “I’ve been able to visit a few places, but honestly… I’ve mostly been staying at home.” Amelia meant the estate that she and Peter owned in OED. “I haven’t had that much time for personal vacation in the past few years so… knowing that Cal is going to be alright, I figured it was a good chance to relax for a little bit.”

As the music died off, the pair made their way back. “Who’s next… or, do you wanna take an old aviator for another spin hun?” He smiled down at Jessie.

Harris, CCDA

Jessie smiled and flushed but shook her head. “That wouldn’t be fair to everyone else.” Jessie got her one dance and she was over the moon about it. Elaine managed to extract herself from the young CCDA Officer and snagged Harris up for herself. “I am sure, General Harris you are eager ro show me you are a better dancer than that young Officer over there. But I promise not to tell either of you how you compare.” She laughed and wandered away with him.

Yavia and the nurses

Harris kissed Jessie’s hand softly and winked before turning Elaine. “Yes ma’am…” The General beamed as he took her hand and led the woman on to the dance floor. He really was having fun.

Harris, CCDA

With a soft smile, Amelia watched Cal. It was nice to see him out and about, back to his old self.

Timing was everything and Eela had to weave through the crowd rather carefully in order to not get jostled around in a way that would hurt her back, but the music gave her a reason to dance her way over to the table at the front with the medical staff and Harris. But he was already swept away again and she couldn’t help but smirk.

Certainly at first glance she looked like just another person dressed up for a night out. And certainly no one who had interacted with her on a professional level would be expected the loose gold-sequinned top and wide flared black skirt with low heeled boots. Never mind the wig of black curls cut across her forehead that hid her forehead ridges rather adeptly. And makeup too!

That’s what made this so fun, because anyone who had spent more than a few minutes conversing with the woman knew that Eela Dasca was far more than met the eye, and certainly more than the stright-laced captain one might expect of her. So as she allowed people to see her, she looked up at the stage (now close enough to Tenkiller to see his face clearly) and gave a wink and a cheeky subtle salute with two fingers for his song.

Eela moved another step over to where Sharah was and reached out her hand, resting it on the doctor’s shoulder and stopped a bit. “How much do you want to bet he’d liven up our senior government meetings? Do you think he’d take requests?” she said softly with a distinctly tone of glee.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Sharah pulled back slightly and looked up and smiled slightly but genuinely. It was Eela. She should have felt the woman’s presence. She needed to pay more attention. It was good to see Eela was getting out. “Eela,” Sharah glanced at the stage. “Hmmm....he might. He’s a bit of a wild card. Yavia here might be able to convince him better than anyone.”

The Deltan nurse looked up and grinned, “Oh I am happy to ask. What do you want to hear? No idea if he’ll do it, but I’ll ask!”

Fayth

Dasca grinned. “I was teasing… mostly,” she said. “But I will keep that in mind. Nice to have an car to play when you need it.”

Eela gave a nod to Amelia, not wanting to exclude the other woman, though they didn’t know each other. But she also knew that by letting herself chat with others she was giving up a bit of anonymity the wig and unexpected garments afforded her. “Good evening,” she said warmly.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Amelia smiled and nodded back to the new arrival. She was merely a visitor at the Colony and she hadn’t been in town for that long. With more pressing matters in her hands, she had not really paid attention to OED’s political scene, so it would have been unlikely that she’d recognize Dasca, even in her usual attire.

Finishing a sip of her tonic water that had just been brought by one of the members of the staff, Amelia returned the greeting. “Good evening. I don’t think we’ve met before… I’m Amelia.” Usually, she would shake the hand of the person she was just meeting, but given the amount of people around the table and the number of patrons in the room, reaching out across the table could mean bumping into a few stray glasses and potentially spilling their contents. “I’m General Harris’s chaperone for the night.” She motioned to the man gleefully dancing away with one of the nurses. “Someone has to make sure he stays in line but if I knew his whole hospital staff would be here tonight, I wouldn’t have been so concerned.” Amelia offered Dasca a polite smile. “Do you also part of Sacred Heart’s medical staff?”

Capt. Amelia Manning

Yavia chuckled, “If we had known he was coming we would have made a bigger production out of it.” Yavia was outragous and it seemed everything she did was over the too, from having fun to caring for the ill. She gave all of herself and then some to it.

As the song ended, Tenkiller stopped and picked up a bottle of something and took a long drink. He turned around and said something to the band and they all chuckled and he took another drink before turning back to the crowd.

“Every’body having a good time so far?” he asked and there was a roll of cheers and clapping from the crowd and Tenkiller smiled. “Good, good. Hate ta have y’all sittin’ through all this under duress.” and there was a soft laughter from the crowd. He started strumming and the other guitar player stared in to play.

The whole crowd cheered, but the table of nurses was by far the loudest. They all had a soft spot for Harris, he was a patient after all, but they all had a crush on Tenkiller in varying degrees. Who wouldn’t? After all they had to do was press a button and in a swirl of golden light he appeared and saved the day.

I got a half a six pack of Old Milwaukee
And a half a bag of weed
I can’t do it like I did when I was a kid
This is all I’m going to need
Because I know you always worry about me drinking my dinner
But I don’t do that anymore
I got me a sweet girl at home
She’s keeping food on the table
Every night she keeps me warm

and he winked at Yavia.

There were wold whistles and a lot of cheering and nudging and waggled eye brows aimed at Yavia. She even turned a little red. She smiled st him, waved her fingers at him, and then blew him a kiss. That got her teased even more. She really didn’t care.

So I’ve got me this piece of paper
And I got my favorite pen
I know it’s been a little while
And talking’s not my style
So I just had to write my friend

Hey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing okay

You remember the time I was stuck in L.A.?
And I didn’t have a job
And I didn’t have a way to pay the bills that I racked up
Yeah, you kept me from losing my truck
Yeah, I’m a little better off now
Than I was then but it’s sure nice to see you calling me when
I’m out there on the road
Yeah, you calling to say “have a good show”

Hey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing okay

Oj’kiv, a Klingon nurse, slammed back her drink and looked around with a wicked grin. “Where is Harris? My turn! You girls are going too easy on him. This is supposed to be therapy!”
