Her hand covered his, and then her other slowly traced across his forehead, over his temple and across his cheek, leaving behind a feeling of calm, contentment, affection, and connection. A gift, from a woman who really wanted to know him, all of him, better. “Good night, TK. I had an amazing evening.” She watched him a moment as he walked toward his car. Then she hurried inside and to her apartment. Her door barely closed before there was a loud knock and a lot of laughter on the other side.

Yavia

Yavia grinned and called out tiredly, “Who is it?”

“Yavia Crockett open this door. You know good and well how it is.” It was Shrine. She was like the house mother in a girl’s dormitory at an all girl college. She was could sniff out trouble better than a blood hound.

Yavia contemplated not opening the door, but she wasn’t going to sleep any time soon anyway. She walked down the short hall and peeked through the peep hole. Then slowly opened it, for the door to be pushed open and a wave of nosey and caring nurses to flood her apartment like a wave. Yavia was pushed along with the current and pulled down onto her couch between Jal’na (the Klingon PT) and Shrine. Was the Ilena in her kitchen? “Ilena what are you doing here?”

The Betazoid nurse laughed. “Awww come on there was NOTHING going on in the fleet barraks tonight. This was where all the excitement was.”

Jessie looked at the bag, “Ewww…wine and icecream???? That does not go together Ilena.”

Elaine laughed, “Sure it does Jessie, you just need the right flavors.”

Ilena stood in the kitchen, hands on her waist and looked at Yavia hard. The telepathic nurse was giving her a good once over and Yavia turned several shades of red. Ilena laughed, “It’s an icecream night ladies!” There were whoops and laughter and hands fanning themselves. Jessie looked confused. “I don’t get it.”

Shrine, beling her age, giggled. “If the date went poorly, we’d help Yavia drown her sorrows in wine and talk about how horrible Tenkiller is. If the date went well, we indulge in a lot of ice cream to cool us off because of how well the date went.” Jessie just looked at the older nurse a moment and then her jaw popped open in an ‘O’ of understanding.

Jal’na clapped her hands and rubbed them together and roared with laughter. “He is a most worthy warrior, I am sure. Where did he take you?” Ilena rummaged around in her kitchen for bowls and spoons and was soon passing ice cream around.

“We went to the Plaza Exchange to this…”

Ilena handed her a bowl. “What’s the Plaza Exchange?”

“It’s one of those places you fleeters are advised to stay away from unless necessary during the day, and forbidden to go at night,” Shrine explained.

Elaine cackled, “He was just showing off, taking you to a place that like. Big bad general keeping you safe in the seedest part of town.”

Yavia grinned, “No…no he was not. That came much later,” and she popped a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth and let them speculate for awhile. Then she grinned after awhile. “We went to a place called Diamond Jim’s. Apparently it’s modeled after an old Earth Speak Easy. Oh they have live music.” That got everyone’s attention and Yavia enjoyed her ice cream while they all speculated about when they could all do and what type of music.

Finally Shrine straightened, “Okay okay. We will be going. We have to see this place he took her, BUT…Yavia, sweet girl, you were not coming home from the Plaza Exchange, so where were you?”

Yavia shrugged, “Oh....well you know…I am just not the kind of girl to kiss and tell.” Elaine threw a napkin at her. “You don’t have to tell, we saw it. Several times.” She pointed her spoon at Yavia, “Okay so how exactly did he show off?”

Yavia scooped another spoonful of ice cream, ate it, and then set her bowl down. “He got to meet William.” Every nurse there knew about William, even Jessie had been warned about him. An addict that was always in and out of the hospital looking for more drugs, and only on occasion wanting real help. Occasionally he would show up at the apartment building with his sob story for the nurses and they would have to call the police to drag him to the hospital for treatment. Then the cycle started all over.
They all also knew his penchant for trying to get Yavia to use her talents to help him. He had tried the same with Helaky (the Deltan aChief of Staff). Shrine snorted, “Bet that didn’t go over well. William in a jail cell?”

Yavia laughed and shook her head. “No…oh no…he’s probably an hour into detox now.” Yavia proceeded to explain in humorous exact detail exactly what Tenkiller had done to William. Including his threat that included Yavia’s safety as well as the other nurses. The story got a resounding cacophony of laughter. Jal’na banged her ice cream bowl on the arm of Yavia’s couch like it was a tankard of blood wine and roared with approval. “Yavia…why are we here in your apartment and not that man? You’re an idiot.”

Yavia shook her head with a far too knowing smile, “No, no I am not.” She scooped the last of her ice cream looking like that cat that caught the canary.

Jal’na snorted. “If you don’t want him, I will see how this human man compares.”

“Jal’na,” Yavia turned to her and pointed a rather deadly looking spoon at her, “touch him and I’ll cut your Klingon heart out with this spoon.” The apartment collapsed into gales of laughter. Ilena laughed so hard she gave herself stomach cramps.

Yavia and the nurses

There was a loud knock on the door and a voice said “Building Security.” Shrine was closest so she stood up and said “I knew you all were going to get loud. Look what you caused, and we haven’t even gotten details yet!” She opened the door…

And stepping past the lobby guard, in walked one Major General Charles Tenkiller. He walked right past all the nurses and straight up to Yavia. He bent over, put his hand on the back of her neck, and gave her a kiss that caused every mouth in the room to fall open and eye to go wide.

He pulled back and said “Sorry. Needed one for the road. See you tomorrow?” and he stood up and then looked at the room as if seeing the nurses for the first time. “Oh… evenin’ ladies. Y’all have a good night now. I know I sure did.” and he grinned and winked and walked right out the door, closing the door behind him. There was a distinct sound of whistling coming from the hall that faded off gradually.

Tenkiller

Silence…utter silence was left in his wake until the whistling completely faded. “Oh. My. God....I thought Harris was hot....whoa.....” Jessie looked for all the world like she was the one who just got kissed by the most seductive man alive instead of Yavia.

Shrine blinked and had to fan herself for real that time, “Jessie go with Elaine. We need about 5 more gallons of ice cream.” Elaine giggled watching Yavia as she dragged Jessie out the door. Ilena walked over behind Yavia, a wicked grin on her face as she dumped a tiny cupful of ice water over the woman’s head. Yavia jumped and spun around on the couch. “What was that for?”

Ilena giggled, “Hey look the water is steaming!” Ilena ducked a pillow being thrown at her. “Jal’na! Open a window. We gotta cool it off in here.” Shrine cackled as she made her way to the apartment’s main control panel. “I’m turning on the AC. Gotta stop Yavia from melting.”

Elaine and Jessie returned with the requested ice cream. Jessie sighed, “Man I thought we were gonna have to go to the market. Elaine has a replicator. I am so saving my money for one of those. I hate cooking.” She set the ice cream on the counter. “Why is it SO cold in here?”

Jal’na laughed, “Yavia needs to cool off.”

Ilena cackled, “Yavia you look like a human that just had their first run in with a Deltan.” She started scooping more ice cream. Yavia got about 5 scoops in her bowl to help her ‘cool’ off.

“If Tenkiller doesn’t see you tomorrow, he’s going to have to deal with us. And he’s seen what we do with intruders,” Elaine waved her spoon around. Yavia just shook her head.

Shrine snorted, “Naw, I’ll just tell Harris ALL about it. He’ll just flirt with her to make Tenkiller jealous.”

Yavia snorted, “Hardly. I mean Harris with flirt with anything that’s female, but he’s got NOTHING on Tenkiller.”

Five pairs of intense gazes zeroed in on Yavia, “Oh reaaaaallllyyy? Do tell.” Yavia shrugged, enjoying making them work for it and holding the memory for herself. About an hour later of no details Elaine sighed, “Come on Yavia give us something!”

“Okay okay, if you all promise to leave so I can go to bed.” Smirks raced across the faces in the room along with nods. “He didn’t come up because he said he doesn’t want a fling with a Deltan or a fling with me.” She paused because she knew that would get a reaction and there was the beginning of a rumbling protest. “He said he wants to be with me for a long while… at least.” Yavia got up and started yanking bowls out of hands. “Now out. Out out out. I need to get to sleep.”

There were squeal and laughter but they were all ushered out by Shrine. Yavia needed a really really long icy cold shower.

Unfortunately for Yavia, there was a knock early, far too early, on her door. It was Shrine…again. And as soon as the door opened she was rushed. “Girl if he is gonna see you today, you gotta look good. Scrubs don’t do much for a girl’s figure.” Yavia groaned, it was WAY to early for this. “I don’t even know if he will show at the hospital.”

Shrine laughed, “Oh girl, he will FIND a reason to inspect the ward and the officers on duty today. Trust me.”
