After her meeting with Dr. Helaky and Fayth, Aiofemi went back to her hotel room and got to work bringing together the resources she needed to make the event a success. As she sat at the neat and organized workstation. She ran her hand across the surface of the desk and a holographic computer screen appeared and a keyboard illuminated on the desk.
The first thing she needed to do was connect with the Director of Education and inquire about the space at Rabbitus Memorial. Samikah, could you see if Director Enger has an assistant or if you can contact her directly? I need to be able to gain an audience with her as soon as possible. Do not rule out a meeting tonight if it is possible.

She also needed to ensure she connected with Dr. Peviadto determine the approach they needed so that they could provide psychiatric care however that would have to wait as Dr. Helaky was going to introduce her. Aiofemi knew she was going to spend the better part of her day, tomorrow, meeting with Dr. Peviad and the staff who were going to be involved in the seminar.

As Mikah worked on trying to contact Director Enger, Ai went through the political roster to see who she might be able to contact so that she could get more information on Vren. Her eyes came across Nicholas James, the Director of the Colonial Intelligence Agency. She clamped her hands together and brought them to her mouth as she leaned back in her chair. After a few minutes of thought, she sprang forward in her chair and dictated a transmission herself to Mr. James.

=^=Greetings Mr. James.
My name is Aiofemi Oshiro. As the new Director of Medical and Social Services, I have been given a task by the Governor and I hoped I could leverage the potential knowledge you may have to help me prepare for it. I am wondering if you could spare some time to meet with me tomorrow. I can come to your office and explain what I need. I look forward to your reply.=^=

Dr. Ai Oshiro, DMSS

A prompt text response came through. =/\=Your office. 13:00. Don’t be late. Don’t discuss the meeting in advance.=/\= Intelligence people were impossible to talk to sometimes. Nicholas made himself no exception.

Ai’s message came through as Samikah was in her own hotel room, snuggled on the couch enjoying a small glass of Terran Brandy. Samikah looked at the glass before she took another sip, placed it on the modern coffee table then acknowledged her request. Will do. Standby as I attempt to contact her office. After she closed her link with Ai, she scooted off the couch and walked over to her own workstation. Samikah dictated a voice-only transmission to Director Enger’s office. She didn’t expect a reply since it was after hours.*

=^=Greetings Director Enger,
My name is Samikah Jaxsyn. I am the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Medical and Social Services. I am aware that the hour is late, however, I have been instructed to reach out to you regarding a time-sensitive matter. My boss requires your assistance and was wondering if you had any availability to discuss by means of video or voice transmission tonight. If not, it would be much appreciated if you could share your availability tomorrow so that I can connect you both.=^=

Mikah, Admin Assistant DMSS

Karina spent her evenings and nights in her office at the government tower. Her days were occupied with the university, primary, and secondary schools. She preferred to be visible and involved rather than ensconced in their ivory tower. Karina had an assistant, she also had the administrative assistant for the whole admin building at the university. But she was the only one there and the message came across her console and flashed. She opened it and responded immediately. Karina had to stop and pause to remember the name of the new DMSS. She had seen the memo that had gone out - Aiofemi T. Oshiro. That was it.

*=/\=Ms. Jaxsyn, I will be in my office at the tower for the next 3 hours. Dir Oshiro is welcome to come at any time, or I can meet with her via live feed right now. If this is about the pressing issue the entire cabinet is aware of, I would prefer to meet with her right away. Otherwise I can’t meet at 0600 for half an hour. My next available is 1300.=/\=

Enger, DoE

*=^= Thank you, Dir. Enger. I am sure she will want to speak with you tonight. Her hotel is not far from the tower so I will arrange transport for her and she can be there in 30 minutes. =^=

After she completed the correspondence with Director Enger. Samikah contacted Aiofemi and said, =^=Your meeting with the Director of Education, Karina Enger, is all set. She is currently in her office at the Government Tower. I figured you’d want the opportunity to meet her in person so I have arranged for your transportation there and sent her office suite number to your PaDD.=^=

Ai sent a simple Thank you., to Mikah before she got up from her workstation and prepared to leave. Mikah was quick, she hadn’t expected a rapid reply and had also hoped to hear back from Mr. James in the time being. However, her meeting with Director Enger was just as important and one she didn’t want to miss.

As she headed out the door, the message from Mr. James came through. She contacted Samikah, =^= Mikah, one more thing, hun, can you arrange my transport to meet with Mr. James tomorrow?=^=

“Aye, boss. I will send the details to you PaDD.”

Mikah, Admin Assistant DMSS

When Aiofemi made it to the Government Tower, she found that her Tower badge was functional and allowed her access to the building. She went directly to the lifts and entered the floor where Karina Enger’s office was. When the lift stopped she stepped out and gazed at the office numbers until she reached the one that belonged to the Director of Education. She approached the door, knocked a couple of times, and waited to be invited in.

Dr. Ai Oshiro, DMSS

Karina had expected a video call considering how urgent Oshiro’s assistant made the request sound. The floor was quiet, most people, except harried assistants were gone by now. Karina found having an assistant strange, but helpful. She tended to do most of her work herself. When the knock came on her door, her hand reached under her desk and then paused as she checked the camera outside her door. The image of the woman on the other side met the file photo of the new DMSS. “Enter!” Karina called out in her slightly mechanical and precise voice.

The office was sparse and plane. A desk, two chairs, but a wonderful view behind her. It certainly wasn’t like the governor’s office, or the Lt Gov. Karina didn’t use it much though. This was for precise business meetings and a place to work quietly without interruption. Her office at the university was much more welcoming. However, despite being sparse, the chairs were quite comfortable. The rest of the building was subdued with lowered lights and quiet. Her office was lit brightly and caused one to blink upon entering. She looked up from her desk and waved to a chair as she stood and offered her hand. “Director Oshiro? Please come in, have a seat. Karina Enger. Would you like anything from the replicator?” Karina had coffee and a scone on the side of her desk that she was obviously nibbling on as she worked. She tapped the console off to give the other woman her complete attention. “What can I do for you this evening?”

Enger, DoE

“Yes, Director Enger”, Ai said as she entered the office dressed in the same outfit she had left Sacred Heart in. “I hope you don’t mind that I took the opportunity to have this meeting in person instead of via video call.” She declined a drink and a scone, “I just had dinner at Sacred Heart with Dr. Fayth and Dr. Helaky so I couldn’t eat or drink anything else tonight.” She took her hand and gave it a gentle shake then took a seat in one of the chairs. Noticing the sparse decoration she asked, “Have you been here long?”

In comparison Karina’s shake was firm and decisive. She sat, leaning back in her chair, hands in her lap. “Almost two years now. I do most of my work at the university or one of the other educational centers. This,” she waved around the room, “is where I go to hide and get work done in the quiet, free of…distractions. I suppose, one day I will get around to…filling it.”

“I mean if you haven’t for two years it means you are either a serious procrastinator or you are fine with it as is. I bet it’s the latter. As an educator I would not think you would be much of a procrastinator.”

“Or I am simply too busy to deal with decorating. I am here so very little, and sleep when I can get it seems more important than decorating another office.” Karina smiled good naturedly.

In response to Director Enger’s question, she said, “Your name was provided to me as a resource I could utilize. I am hoping you would be willing to help me find a space to host a seminar with Vren medical staff. As you know they are due to pay us a visit. Some of the staff from Sacred Heart, as well as myself and Dr. Fayth, will participate to display and demonstrate for the Vren some of the medical technology we use here in the colony. If we could find a space that is large enough to accommodate at least 50 -150 beings, this will include preparation staff, security, etc., I think half of the work we have to do to get this off the ground will be done. We will also need it to hold medical equipment, of various sizes and need space for stage set-ups, podiums, catering, and view screens.” Ai thought for a moment, “A building with internal security features would be preferable.”

Dr. Ai Oshiro, DMSS

-CIA Director

Karina listened as the woman extolled on her needs. “The auditorium at Rabbitus Memorial School should fill your needs. It is right across the square, holds 500 people, has a stage, podium, projection equipment, and since Rabbitus is now a enrichment center there are no children enrolled there. You won’t run the risk of parents rioting. Rabbitus, also, is already hooked in to the colony’s security systems. I would recommend speaking with Commissioner Karlson and General Harris about security. Actually Ms Fen would be good to speak to. She should know what security measures are being carried out for the visit and you can coordinate appropriately.” She turned back on her console and tapped away. “Let’s see the Vren arrive in 2 days, we’ll say three to give some time for their ceremony, and not knowing what order of events the Governor will want…I will block off the auditorium for you for a week. That will give you time to set up and for security to do what they do. Or would you prefer two weeks?”

Enger, DoE

Aiofemi couldn’t help but smile. The woman was efficient and right to the point. “Um…no..week is great! It gives me the time I need. How do I gain access? Do I need a badge or my biometrics to access the building or should I take that up with Karlson or Harris?” She asked.

Dr. Ai Oshiro, DMSS

Enger tapped on her console. “Rabbitus Memoial is open to everyone, so you can come and go as you please. I have keyed you in and your government badge will unlock the auditorium and connected rooms for you. Whoever ends up in charge of the security can of course change that, just have them let me know what they will do so if I need to relocate some of our other events going on I can do so.”

Enger, DoE

Bump

“I am very pleased with this solution.” She briefly closed her eyes and shook her head, to signify what a relief it was that Director Enger made the Rabbitus Memorial Center available for the event so quickly. “So far this has been the easiest part of all this. I would say it would be a great opportunity for the young school-age children in the colony, however, there is no way to know the true intention of the Vren. Maybe the opportunity will resurface in the future. How about you? Are you interested in attending the seminar? I would love to have you stop by and observe the setup and the activities.”

Dr. Ai Oshiro, DMSS

Karina shook her head, “Oh no they will be kept far away from all the children, school aged or otherwise. You want to see Oed for to war, but their children at risk. The educational team has prepped age appropriate packets that the parents can access and choose how much to tell their children. It is, after all, a very personal choice. Later if things go well, I have spoken with the governor, and the university will be holding a series of lectures and topic panels for the residence to attend.”

“Of course. I, like all the other cabinet members, will be attending all the events. We must be unified.”

Enger, DoE
