He was in the den, and on the vid was the introduction to a movie starring Duncan Sampson, one of rhe galaxy’s best action stars. The title screen had gold letters that read Star Struck!, with the ‘Struck’ being hit with a fist. He looked up and said “Hey… mind-numbing brain junk food? Sound good?”

“Oh, I haven’t seen this one yet.” Yavia handed him his glass and then sat down next to him and stretched out, her glass resting on her leg. “That sounds perfect.” She leaned back, sipping at what ever fruity concoction she had made, foot bouncing along with the intro music.

It was roughly 45 minutes later. Sharah could feel them and hear their thoughts and tell even before she saw the open door to the den, they were waiting for her. She made her way quietly, though she was sure Charles heard her anyway, to the door and stood there, hands clasped in front of her and stated at him in disbelief. “You ran a BACKGROUND check on my shrink?!”

Sharah

Yavia’s eyes widened and she reached over and stopped the movie. The answer to that question required their full attention. Yavia assumed that was the Korczak Sharah didn’t want to be late for. “Whoa…TK that’s…gutsy.” She was trying really hard not to grin and keep her amusement hidden. Sharah was going back and forth between being upset and understanding. She was gonna turn into a Roman candle if she decided on upset.

Charles held up a finger and said “Noooo… I read your shrink’s personnel file.” and he looked up at her. “And it just so happens that we know each other. He taught a Command course in Non-aggressive Interrogation that I took. And I finished first in his class, I’ll have you know.” and then he looked at V. “It was a really good course. All about ways to get a suspect to volunteer information without the usual tricks and threats.” he said, desperately trying to change the subject… and failing miserably.

Yavia nodded her head slowly, “Oh yeah? That explains a lot.”

Yavia

Oh yeah, that explained soooo much. Including every time she marveled at how much the things Charles said reminded her of Korczak. Gods she was oblivious. Sharah swore in Betzed, it came out in an explosion of disbelief. “You might pass Korczak on the street and never notice him, but once you meet him, you never forget him. So don’t pass of the ‘Oh yeah I know this guy, huh, how about that.’ Especially not if you passed the top of his class.” She didn’t want to fight or be upset with him. She was also well aware after today she felt raw and exhausted. “So that night you asked me who he was, you knew, or suspected.” Sharah had a hard time staying mad at people most of the time, because she could feel why they did what they did. Even if she wouldn’t choose the same, she understood. “Explain to me, please, why. Why you felt it was okay to keep it a secret that you did that.”

Sharah

Charles sighed in defeat and said “Because I had to… for work. Anyone we, the three of us, have constant or in this case mental health based, contact with has to be vetted for security reasons. I have access to the head of the CCDA on a daily basis and access to the senior leadership of the colony. A colony, need I remind you, with a long and storied history of assassinating just such individuals. As you two are connected to me, so anyone more than a passing acquaintance to you has to be cleared in the system. So either I can do it… or we can have Colonial Intelligence do it. I figured me doing it would be less invasive.”

Tenkiller

Sharah bit the inside of her lip as she looked at him. She let the emotions move through her along with the words. “Yeah, I understand that. I do. I’m an officer, everyone I deal with, within Star Fleet is vetted. Who I’m allowed to seek counseling from is restricted.” She moved further into the room as she spoke. “Certainly CCDA has a right to check on anything or anyone that could affect the colony. I didn’t think about it, it didn’t occur to me that it needed to be done from both sides, and that’s on me.” She let out a sigh, sinking onto the couch beside him. “Thank you for not letting a stranger do it. But…I don’t care it had to be done, I do care you didn’t tell me. I wouldn’t have asked you not to, hell I would have given you a list.”

Sharah

Charles nodded and stood up and went to her. “I am sorry. Honestly, it has been going on for so long I didn’t even really think about it. Thats not an excuse… its just the reason I didn’t say anything. My thought process started at ‘Got to do the checks.’…” and he turned to V and said “… including all the folks you play ball with…” and he turned back to Sharah, “… and it ended with ‘I don’t want the CIA rummaging around her life.’. If I’d a’taken it a step further, I would realized that I should have said somethin’. And for that I do sincerely apologize.”

Tenkiller

Sharah set her palms flat against his chest and nodded with a half smile, “I accept, and I’m sorry.” She blew out a breath and rested her forehead against his chest. “I thought it was funny at first. I don’t know why I got upset.” She hadn’t been mad at all, and when Korczak mentioned it she hadn’t been surprised at all. She’d only meant to tease him a little. But somewhere between the words leaving her mouth and his answer…”I think I need to just go to bed.”

Sharah

He hugged her and said “You have one hell of a day, hun. Go to sleep. We’ll be around, but give yourself some alone time. But know you can crawl into bed with us if you want.”

Everyone I play ball with?” V got a really wicked smirk on her face, “Where does Mo’pna disappear to in the middle of every practice/”

Yavia

TK looked at V and said “Everyone. And I did background checks, nosey. Not full surveillance.”
