She went to say something but no words came out. It was exactly the kind of adventure she would do, and needed. A sharp inhale and she blew out a breath. “I really want to say, ‘what the hell, let’s do it’, but, and I’m not trying to be self-deprecating here, is that such a good idea? You know the cliché about how a commanding officer walks into the lounge and all the riotous behaviour dies down, or the crew becomes self-conscious? It’s not always that way, but there is a measure of truth to it. I’m the Lieutenant Governor. I… don’t want to make anyone feel awkward.” The speakeasy had been a vastly different environment. Loud. Distracting. Anyone who didn’t want to talk with her hadn’t needed to. It was one ting for her and Sharah to be social together, but she didn’t want to intrude on their social group where she wasn’t welcome.

Sharah nodded, “Well then let’s make it small. You and I obviously, and I have to include Yavia. Jal’na is participating and Lt Mika. She’s a very good friend of mine. Arrived recently and agreed to participate. She is the new CNS. Or perhaps you have a different group in mind?”

“I didn’t have any group in mind, just that I didn’t want it to be awkward for anyone,” Eela said. She inhaled deeply and smiled. “You know me well enough and I trust you, Sharah. Coordinate a date and time wth Cort and let’s do it.” Inwardly she felt that tiny thrill of jumping outside the box she had placed herself in and just letting loose a little. The part of her that yearned to be free needed to let out now and again and she was on the path to finding that balance, starting with figuring out what to wear to present herself as a fantastic option for a date. Her smiled deepened into a grin. Some poor person likely had no idea what they were getting into and that thrilled her to no end.
