The OED’s new Director of Spaceport & Orbital Facilities, Malcolm Dawkins, strode from Government Tower into the sunlight of a rather bright morning. Taking a stroll through the park in front of the building before heading to the planet side offices of the Spaceport & Orbital Operations Agency, he really didn’t know what to expect when he walked through the doors… a single person in charge of an entire government agency.
After clearing his head, Malcolm boarded the lift to the SOOA Executive offices on the 42nd floor. Moments later, Malcolm tugged his suit straight and strode into the Reception area. Walking through the door, Malcolm nodded to a receptionist that smiled and waved. “Good morning Director Dawkins. Welcome to Space Ops.” She pointed to the corridor on his right. “Straight down to the end, I’ll let your EA know you’re on the way.” Malcolm thanked the woman and walked down the hall, pausing about halfway down… startled. The man was not in a regular hallway but a glass-sided corridor open to the two floors below. The large room from which the corridor hung from the ceiling had about three dozen workstations and a large Comm Suite with a half dozen Astro Control Service personnel before large holographic displays showing all the traffic around the various orbital installations under the control of the SOOA. It was clean and well organized, impressing Malcolm immensely.
After a few moments, he continued on to the end of the corridor. Stepping through a large door, Malcolm found himself in another reception area… though smaller than the first… with angled floor-to ceiling windows looking out into the same ops center as before. Looking to the desk in the middle of the back wall of the room by a door with his nameplate on the wall, Malcolm saw an attractive young woman who smiled up at him at once. Walking to the desk, Malcolm playfully motioned to the nameplate. “By the looks of that, I found the right place… eh?” His slight southern accent came out when nervous and this time was now exception.
