Logan had been eager to check out the gym for Sky Harbor Tower. It was a good place to learn people’s schedules, plus, he figured, he should probably keep himself in shape if he was going to be doing this intelligence thing. Of course, the last time he’d been to a gym was in another life–quite literally–and that was on a ship he really shouldn’t have been on.

As he entered, he took a look around, before heading for the treadmills first, figuring he ought to get some cardio in.

Next to the one Logan chose was a fairly tall Human running at an easy pace. In shorts and a t-shirt, he had an athletic build and definitely looked like he worked out a lot. In fact he was taking careful note of his form as he ran, even as he increased the pace one step.

Logan looked the man up and down, making a mental note about his mannerisms. Careful, attentive, probably not someone to be easily overwhelmed. As he climbed up on the treadmill and started it on a light jog, Logan nodded at him.

Cort gave a smile and a nod. “Good morning,” he said easily, not out of breath at all. The treadmill indicated it at over the 4k mark as he grabbed the water bottle out of the holder and took a swig.

Distance runner. Good endurance. Interesting. Logan thought, before speaking up. “I’m new around here. L–” He stopped, remembering his new name. “Looking to meet some of the neighbors, Scott Devalin, CEO of Devalin Shipping.”

Logan Mills

“Nice to meet you, Scott. I’m Cort Belanger. I work in the Lieutenant Governor’s office. I actually live in the building next door but it doesn’t have a gym and they let us use this one.” There was some sort of deal the residents association had made with the developers of this new building.

Hannah wasn’t sure about using the gym in the building, but then she found out it had a climbing wall. And nothing was going to stop her from checking it out. She was on her own this morning and took advantage to head down and check it out. The wall had an automated belay and Hannah was more than experienced enough to handle the climb on her own. It was roughly 10 stories. A short climb for her, but much more than most indoor climbing areas.

She was currently sitting in a ledge about 3 stories up, drinking a bottle of water and staring down at the main gym. One guy, athletic and muscular had been running for awhile at an easy pace. A younger man came in looking like he was lost. He got on a treadmill…in those shoes? He gave the other man an obvious appraisal. Great Ego time…

“HEY!” The woman’s voice carried down but sounded very muffled. “Stretch first. Don’t want to have to save you from muscle cramps!” The woman was wearing a bright blue safety helmet, dark grey cargo pants and a close t-shirt. Other than harness and ropes it was hard to notice anything else at that distance.

Hannah

Cort held on to the bar of the treadmill before he looked up in the direction of the voice and saw how high the figure was. “I think she’s talking to you,” Cort said to Devalin with a grin.

~Cort Belanger

Logan glanced up at the woman, climber, so some degree of physical strength. Probably some sort of medical person, considering the comment about cramps. He thought to himself, “and you are?!” He called back up to her.

Even from that distance Hannah could tell hus body language was slightly off. She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but the younger man’s posture was suddenly uncomfortable and then corrected. Huh.She looked up at the wall. “I am about 1/3 of the way up!” They couldn’t see it but she was grinning. “Be down in a bit!” Again she sounded muffled, it might have been the distance. Hannah tugged the rope and then began to climb again, as easily as the one man was running and the younger one just standing there. She practically swarmed up the side. Of course this was easy. There were plenty of hand holds and the ‘face’ was stable. She wasn’t having to put pitons into the rock face.

Hannah

Cort laughed. She was funny! Letting go of the side of the treadmill, he continued to run, his arms pumping in a relaxed manner until the treadmill kicked into a cool down mode at the 5k mark.

“Do you do much running?” Belanger asked the man next to him.

~Cort Belanger

“Not in a gym setting, usually. Generally do cross-country style running or do running in the course of my job.” Logan intentionally left out why he did running in his job. “What about you?”

Logan Mills

The woman had made the second third by then. She paused, hanging by the harness and rope, almost reclined back, her feet still on the “rocks”. She took a bottle off her harness and drank. After a moment she was scaling the last third of the wall.

Hannah

Cort was tracing the woman’s movements out of the corner of his eye every now and again. She was making good progress and clearly was strong. “Triathlons, though it’s been awhile since I’ve done more than a sprint one. Work is too busy to train for a full triathlon, hell even a half at the rate things are going. But the training is a good stress release.”

~Cort Belanger

“I could never manage even a marathon at this point. I’m a pilot, not a runner.” Logan’s eyes also followed the woman, “that, and I have too much…work…to do these days.”

Logan Mills

Cort chuckled. “Not everyone is.”

Hanah was five feet from the top when her foot slipped. But that was why in climbing you ha e a rule, 3 on move 1. So she didn’t fall, but her movement did drop suddenly and right itself. Hannah set her foot and dragged the sole of her shoe across the foot hold. The rubber sole seemed fine. She would do a better check at the top. She made the last five feet and hauled herself over the top. She sat, feet dangling over the edge for a minute. She finished the bottle of water. Then a minute Katerina she was repelling down at dizzying speed and stopped three feet from the ground and then finished the drop and started running the rope off the harness and undoing the buckles.

Hannah

At first Cort was worried but she clearly knew what she was doing as she made it all the way to the top and zipped down like it was nothing.

“So you’re in shipping? Just general all-goods stuff, or something specific?” he said as the treadmill slowed his pace to a walk.

~Cort Belanger

“Uh…” Logan tried not to pause too long, but couldn’t help it. He couldn’t risk revealing things he wasn’t allowed to reveal. “General shipping. Sometimes have specific orders from specific clients.” He hoped that was vague enough to not seem suspicious.
