Nicholas didn’t enjoy having a meeting on his own turf, but it was inevitable that he needed to meet the newly assigned Assistant Director of Colonial Intelligence. The summons had been sent, and it then became a matter of time before the new person turned up.

Reilly arrived after having stopped and picked up Hvalian coffees. He had spent time talking to the staff while James had been occupied with meetings and operation reviews to get to know a few things. He walked into the reception area of rhe Directir’s office, set one down for his administrative assistant, and then went through the door.

Reilly smiled and said “Good morning, Director. I hope you don’t mind, I took the liberty.” and he handed a cup to James. He then held out his hand and said “Jason Reilly. Formerly of Star Fleet Intelligence and Federation Diplomatic Corps.”

Reilly, AD-CIA

“Indeed.” Nicholas took the cup and shook the offered hand. “Thank you.” He gestured to the barren furnishings of his office. The chair on the other side of his desk, very specifically. “Please have a seat.”

“You’re former fleet Intel? What’s my insurance on that former?” Nicholas was, as always, brutally direct.

Reilly shrugged. “Not sure, but Hyrushi seemed to be okay with me. I get the feeling he isn’t fooled easily. Kinda creepy.” and he chuckled. “Look… I worked Intel for a long time. And I realized not so long ago that they really don’t give a s#!t about anything outside of doing what they do just because they can. I want what we do to matter. Not be busy work for people who just want to play spy master.”

Reilly, CIA DD

To see Nicholas, he rarely smiled. At this he offered a broad grin. “Good. Our jobs are complicated as all hell. Made only more complicated by a tangential closeness to fleet Intel and Section 31. We’re new, people barely know we exist. And in all the time people are busy underestimating us, we can make this a colony no longer… one thing you can count on here, Reilly. Such is the nature of the business, we’re good liars, we lie a lot, but not inside these walls. Here, we operate on facts.”
