At first Cort was worried but she clearly knew what she was doing as she made it all the way to the top and zipped down like it was nothing.

“So you’re in shipping? Just general all-goods stuff, or something specific?” he said as the treadmill slowed his pace to a walk.

“Uh…” Logan tried not to pause too long, but couldn’t help it. He couldn’t risk revealing things he wasn’t allowed to reveal. “General shipping. Sometimes have specific orders from specific clients.” He hoped that was vague enough to not seem suspicious.

The hesitation was a bit odd from a CEO of a company and Cort had been on Oed long enough to know that all sort of things happened around here (or people tried to pretend they didn’t). For the moment he just filed away the info. One didn’t work in the government without learning to pay close attention. “I see,” he said, taking a drink from his water bottle.

Hannah stowed her harness, gloves, and rock shoes in her bag and slipped on running sneakers. She pulled the helmet off and tossed it in the bag. She finger combed her wavy blonde hair loose and then tied it back in a pony tail, and fiddled with the hair around her ears a bit. She reset the climbing equipment and tied the rope off to anchor it. She put her bag over her shoulder and walked over. Something about the younger guy made her edgy. The other one though had confidence to spare and an easy posture that Hannah speculated made him easy to talk to. She grabbed a treadmill and set it to a slow job for an easy cool down.

Cort gave her an easy smile. “You had me worried when you slipped there, but you clearly have been climbing a long time,” he said, walking at a relaxed pace.

“Yeah, I’d have likely fallen and looked dumb.” Logan said. “And that definitely looks bad on my company for their CEO to die less than a year after the previous one.” went back to jogging on the treadmill, watching Cort and Hannah.

His turn of phrase was different. That wasn’t bad she guessed. She was walking at a brisk pace for a 7 minute interval that would slowly come down. Letting her heart rate slow. “You would not have fallen. The harness and rope and belay system stops that. I’m Hannah by the way.” Her voice was muffled, thick, didn’t enunciate crisply. She nodded to Cort, “Started climbing when I was big enough to walk.”

Belanger took a moment to reply and then he seemed to understand something. “It’s nice to meet you Hannah, I’m Cort.” He gestured to Devalin. “And this is Scott. We were just talking about running. I enjoy outdoor activities but I have to admit I haven’t been climbing before.”

“Nice to meet you Cort, Scott.” She greeted them in turn. She seemed to be the type that talked with her hands, “I heard there are some good hiking trails outside the city. Not much for scenery I would guess. I’d be happy to introduce you to climbing. The wall here is great, plenty of stop offs if you don’t want to climb the whole thing.” She opened the bottle of water she had sitting on the interface of the treadmill, “What types of activities do you two enjoy?” and she drank a third of her water.
