Kenzo took a breath and said “One moment.” He waved his hand for a moment and then gently laid it on hers.

It was almost scalding hot. The heat was not quite painful, but it was very uncomfortable.

Kenzo

The discomfort tingled through her spine, but Eela held her hand in place and inhaled deeply, pulling a memory of one of the many waterfalls on Halii. It was one of the special places that she had told Sharah of, where the energy resonated through your body. It was very different than the crystal caves she had shared with him though. This was a more physical aspect of the planet, a heightened awareness of even the tiniest living thing. It was here the wind moved through the unique ferns that grew near the falls and the vibrations sounded like someone humming. These were the singing ferns.

She breathed slowly and evenly, the sound of the water in her mind soothing. In, and out. In… out. For a moment Eela wasn’t even aware of the room. It was just him and her in the spaces between the breaths. And the only reason she could find that place was because he had excavated space from her emotional self. It was a space that was too full, overflowing. She didn’t expect it to change immediately, but it would in time. And maybe faster if she could find this place more frequently.

Kenzo breathed with her, trying- and failing at first- to put the pain of his body to the side. It was like that every time he pulled emotions from others. Positive emotions left him feeling cool and serene… negative made him feel like he was cooking from the inside out. But slowly, his breathing began to join hers, his eyes open, and he was able to slowly distance himself from the pain.

Kenzo

Eela hadn’t asked him to take on her pain, and it was a true gift, but she also couldn’t abide him suffering afterwards for it. This was one way she could help. She kept them there in that calm space once they found synchronicity. While it could happen with someone who was not psi-positive, it was always an extraordinary feeling with someone who was.

After a time, she let the image of the waterfalls, the sounds of the fern, fade away until it was both of them again in the room. “How are you now?” she asked softly.

Kenzo smiled and said “Less heated. Thank you.” and he released her hand and leaned back. Just then the comms chirped. “Governor, Major General Tenkiller on the line.+ Dorma Fen said. Kenzo looked at Eela and said “Put him through.” There was a pause and then the familiar face of the Vice Commander of the CCDA came through. “Governor. The Vren have arrived at the border. They have contacted us and asked if it is okay they stay at that point until the agreed upon arrival time. I guess they didn’t wanna be late.” Hyrushi nodded. “Tell them that is fine… and divert all traffic away from them. There shouldn’t be much that way, but keep the curious away. The last thing we need is an incident so close to the arrival.” Tenkiller nodded once and the image vanished. Kenzo looked at Eela and said “And just when I thought our plates were full…”

Hyrushi, Governor

Eela exhaling audibly and gave a rueful smile. “Well, if we’re not adding something to it daily I’d swear we were getting behind,” she deadpanned. “I’m hypotethically okay with them being early, but the Centurion is still on exercise. I’ll have a ship or two in dock on standby just in case, but it would be good to probably give Lord Duroc a quiet heads up as well.” Her and McBride had timed the ship’s absence to allow for any delays on their end and still be here before the Vren arrived. No one was expecting anything to happen but it made her a bit antsy to have their tiny warship out of the system, even if they could be back within hours in an emergency. The point was to avoid the emergency in the first place.
