Skip ate a bite in silence. He chewed slowly, looking at his plate, deep in thought. Finally he set down his fork, picked up his glass and took a drink, and the set it down. He turned, leaned into Eela’s personal space… and kissed her cheek. “Thanks. We’re good. And you are gonna be, too.” he said softly. He then stood up and went to the bar, poured a large shot of something very clear, and downed it before coming back to his seat and sitting down with a grin.

Sharah knew depths of the man that only Yavia also saw and felt. Even despite that, his selflessness, his ability and willingness to put others before himself never ceased to amaze them, or fail to make them proud of him.

Astonished was a fabulous word for her expression in the moment and then it shifted to a bemused grin. She expected maybe a nod and three words at most. But certainly not that act of affection.

“I’d bug you about not offering some to the rest of us but as it is I’ve had more than my share today and tomorrow night is going to be… something else,” Eela said, delving back into her meal, focusing mostly on the brussels sprouts for the moment. And she knew that right now the last thing they needed was her constantly drowning her sorrows, no matter how tempting it was.

Tenkiller shrugged and said “If you drink that, you will not be going tomorrow… I can guarantee it.” and he chuckled. He looked around the table and said “So after this, what? Clubs? Dancing? Illicit substances and poor choices? Back porch and drinks? What are we up to?”

Tenkiller

Yavia and Sharah exchanged a silent feeling between them. Sharah continued to eat quietly. “Tomorrow will be something. I would never say so in public, but I think Jal’na is rather nervous though she doesn’t show it. Of course were I to say so we’d have to go at it with spoons, and the wounds would be grievous indeed.” That comment got a laugh out of Sharah. “But in all seriousness, tomorrow will be all about her and her new husband and I am honored to get to celebrate with them. Jal’na deserves it. I don’t know Lord Duroc but if he makes her happy then that is all that matters. Now…”

The main comms to the house trilled i a fun flirtatious scale that immediately identified Yavia as the recipient. She got up from the table and moved to the main console. The screen flashed to a blad-headed woman with silver brows and Yavia’s stunning blue eyes, surrounded by laugh lines and crinkles. “YAVIA! Darling! You look lovely.”

“Hi Gran! How are you? How’s Risa?” The questions seemed benign enough, but the tone sounded like an interrogation. “Isn’t it like 0300there?”

The older woman laughed, “Darling you make it sound like it’s a crime. I just got back to my room. You would know that Risa never sleeps if you would come with me.”

“That’s okay Gran. We tried that on Yorba, and your reputation left me without peace. Then there was that bar in Maryland on Earth, that wouldn’t even let us in because of something you did…”

“I dod NOT start that fight. Just because it was over me doesn’t mean I caused it.”She gave Yavia a shrewd look, “And what about you? Who exactly are these gorgeous Raven haired delights?” An image of the throuple from The Wild Fork appeared on the screen.

Yavia snorted, “Where did…?”

“Oh Yavia, you don’t think I don’t keep tabs on you. I keep up with all the news or pseudo news from Oed V. I have been waiting for you to call me. Who are those divinely gorgeous people? I mean look at your face. You are absolutely smitten!” The old woman cackled.

Yavia licked her lips and gave her grandmother an incredulous and simultaneously amused look. “Well that’s why Iwas calling. I would like…” Yavia sighed as she was interrupted.

There was rapid clapping. “You want me to meet them! Well that cannot be done over comms. I still have two weeks paid here,” there was a soft chime on the other end, “Oh that’s my massage and wine. I’ll see you in about a month. Love you, Darling!” and the comms went dark. Yavia returned to her seat and “I think the back porch and drinks,” she said as if nothing else had happened.

Yavia

“OH! Yes!” and he looked at Eela. “I’ve been working on a new song! Odd coincidence, but I think it it is perfect for you and these past couple days. After dinner I’ll play it for y’all.” and he took a bite and chewed and smiled.

Tenkiller

“Okay,” Yavia perked up. “I will cook every night if that means you are going to play after dinner. So worth the mess and clean up.” Sharah grinned, she totally had to agree with Yavia. She would take clean up duty.

Okay, Eela was intensely amused by Yavia’s grandmother, so as she looked at Skip, she was wearing a smirk. “You have me intrigued. I’d love to hear it,” she said sincerely.

“Yavia, I think your Gran most definitely gives Cort’s great-grandmother a run for her money. Actually… I’m amused by the idea of the two of them in the same room,” Eela said, breaking into a laugh. “I hope you’ll introduce me when she’s here.” She was still picking away at her food, but it was clear she still didn’t have much of an appetite. But she was eating.

Yavia laughed, “Oh I won’t have to introduce you. She will make herself known. Assuming CCDA and customs lets her in. She does have a reputation after all. I may have to trade favors with CCDA brass to get her in.” Yavia grinned and waggled her brows at TK.

Yavia

Eela laughed. People with such big personalities were always interesting to be around, even if they could overwhelm those around them. She hoped it would be a good visit for Yavia and the others.

“Well, I may know a guy who knows a guy.” he said and then chuckled. HE finished the last few bites and said “V… that was amazing. Thank you.” He stood up and began clearing plates. “We’ll leave clean up for the morning. Y’all go on out, get the fire turned on and the drinks ready. I’ll clear the table and be right out.”

Tenkiller

“Yes, agreed, it was a lovely meal,” Eela said, managing half her plate, which all told was an accomplishment. “So what sort of drinks does an impending visit from Gran call for anyway?”

She would definitely join them but there was something she needed to do first. “I’ll be out in a moment,” Eela saidlightly, before slipping into the den. The PaDD weighed down the light cotton tunic and her along with it. With a sigh Dasca pulled it out and brought up the vid, scrolling through the comments till she found her response.

She sat down on one of the couches and read the subsequent comments, and processed, and read some more. Oh there were emotions for sure, a strange mix of them and it was a bit overwhelming. There was surprise and gratitude for the kindness sent in her direction, and there was irritation at some of the trollish behaviour that she easily discarded as unworthy of her focus. But more than anything was the sprawling comments stemming from the one interaction between a commenter and the police. Her heart broke a little bit for them at the exact same time as she was glad they had help. And yes, Eela understood why people wanted her to see this at the same time as she understood that it might not make sense to them that this (right now) did not make her feel better. It made her indignant, even angry, that this was even necessary. The she, and others, were put in a position like this in the first place. As much as she well understood the various behaviours of people, there were some things that would never make sense to her, even if she understood where it came from. Such was the beautiful complexity of life.

Standing with a bit of stiffness, Eela returned the PaDD to her pocket and stepped out of the den, heading to join them on the patio.
