“Well, I may know a guy who knows a guy.” he said and then chuckled. HE finished the last few bites and said “V… that was amazing. Thank you.” He stood up and began clearing plates. “We’ll leave clean up for the morning. Y’all go on out, get the fire turned on and the drinks ready. I’ll clear the table and be right out.”

Tenkiller

“Yes, agreed, it was a lovely meal,” Eela said, managing half her plate, which all told was an accomplishment. “So what sort of drinks does an impending visit from Gran call for anyway?”

“Daquris with more rum than ice.” Yavia laughed and took Sharah by the hand to collect a few things from the bar.

Eela grinned. “Sounds like fun,” she said.

She would definitely join them but there was something she needed to do first. “I’ll be out in a moment,” Eela saidlightly, before slipping into the den. The PaDD weighed down the light cotton tunic and her along with it. With a sigh Dasca pulled it out and brought up the vid, scrolling through the comments till she found her response.

She sat down on one of the couches and read the subsequent comments, and processed, and read some more. Oh there were emotions for sure, a strange mix of them and it was a bit overwhelming. There was surprise and gratitude for the kindness sent in her direction, and there was irritation at some of the trollish behaviour that she easily discarded as unworthy of her focus. But more than anything was the sprawling comments stemming from the one interaction between a commenter and the police. Her heart broke a little bit for them at the exact same time as she was glad they had help. And yes, Eela understood why people wanted her to see this at the same time as she understood that it might not make sense to them that this (right now) did not make her feel better. It made her indignant, even angry, that this was even necessary. The she, and others, were put in a position like this in the first place. As much as she well understood the various behaviours of people, there were some things that would never make sense to her, even if she understood where it came from. Such was the beautiful complexity of life.

Standing with a bit of stiffness, Eela returned the PaDD to her pocket and stepped out of the den, heading to join them on the patio.

Sharah and Yavia were on the top level of the deck, the outdoor kitchen and bar. Yavia was pouring bright red icy goodness into a glass. She handed it to Sharah and then added rum to the remainder and poured 2 more glasses. “TK, what do you want me to pour you? Eela you want a daiquiri or something else?” She shooed Sharah down to the lower level where the fire pit was lit and warming the area from the evening chill.

Yavia

“I’ll take a daiquiri,” Eela said. She had certainly had more than her fill of whiskey earlier and something a bit ‘lighter’ and fun was probably a good idea. “You look like you know what you’re doing with these too. Makes me think of my old XO, Benji. The man knows his way around a cocktail. The stranger the ingredients, the better,” she said with a grin.

A few minutes after the women were seated, the strum of guitar could be heard as Tenkiller tuned his favorite instrument. He came out and sat down, fiddled with the strings and tuning pegs, and then he said “Ok, here goes…” and he started to sing, his eyes closed as the strength of his words came pouring out of him.

I am the river that flows through my veins
I am the black crow, I’m wings of change
I am the rock that the rain couldn’t conquer
I’m above, I’m below, I am hell and high water

I’ve been the song carried in on the breeze
I’ve wept with willows and I’ve fell with the leaves
I am the badlands and the silence it holds
A warrior who walks but is never alone
and he looked briefly at Eela.

There’s a black and a white wolf in me
And I live and I die
By which one I feed
It’s a war old as time, this fighting inside
And I live and I die
By which one I feed

I am the hunted and I am the hunter
I am the feast and the famine, the hunger
I am the eagle screaming for peace
While the beasts on the inside sharpen their teeth

There’s a black and a white wolf in me
And I live and I die
By which one I feed
It’s a war old as time, this fighting inside
And I live and I die
By which one I feed

There’s a black and a white wolf in me
And I live and I die
By which one I feed
It’s a war old as time, this fighting inside
And I live and I die
By which one I feed

Which one I feed

I am the river that flows through my veins
I am the black crow, I’m wings of change
