PRSIMs on Oed V: A Primer

Intro

Oed is a self-sim environment. As such it is up to the players to craft the big storylines that drive the action on the colony. We call these Player-Run Sims or PRSIMs for short. In order to make sure we are running effective stories that include as many people as possible, here are some guidelines to help you craft and run your own PRSIM on the colony.

Definition

A Player-run Sim is defined as one that meets the following conditions:

  • Involves more than two characters
  • Has an overarching storyline that impacts the Colony as a whole, or a large subsection of it
  • Involves more than one group or Department
  • Requires cooperation and collaboration in order to achieve an outcome
  • Even with fast posting from all characters will likely take more than a couple weeks to complete

  • Starting a PRSIM

In order to make sure your Player-Run Sim runs as smoothly as possible, we ask you to follow these steps before starting:

    1. Have a solid plan in place, preferably in a separate document or something you can reference and share with others if needed. You do not need to know how it ends but you should know how it starts and most of the major details. For example, if a player is required to run a scan you should provide the results of that scan and know them in advance if possible.
    2. Have a clear title. This title will be used in all threads involved in the PRSIM. The shorter, the better (most of the time)
    3. Post a note on the board introducing your story. It should include the following:
      (a) A one or two line description of the general story. No spoilers.
      (b) A list of required characters or an invitation for others to join in and how they can do so.
      (c) When you intend to start.
      (d) Any other details you feel are important to making sure your story runs the best way it can.
    4. Inform the Governor or Lieutenant Governor, and they will add your PRSIM to the MOTD with a link to the intro post.

Now you are free to start!

    Ending a PRSIM

A player runs sim is over when one of the following occurs:

  • You have completed the overall task, or met the goal of the story.
  • You have run out of players interested in continuing it.
  • The organizers of the sim are gone or unavailable, and no one else is willing to take it over.
  • When a PRSIM ends, whoever is running it should ask the Governor or the Lieutenant Governor to remove it from the list of PRSIMs on the MOTD.

Good luck and have fun! OED is all about the stories we create and we are enriched by what everyone brings to the table.

Thank you all for your creativity!
