“Please let the Ambassador know if any of the contractors are an issue to let my office know. I’m sure Ms. Fen-” and the obsidian eyes flicked to Caputo, “- or Ms. Caputo would be more than able to get the proper motivations across to the civilian contingents.” He leaned back a bit and looked at Ana and said “Question. Do you have a ball gown?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“Since I am, rather occasionally, required to attend official functions, I do have formal attire, yes.” Ana sighed. “I assume this means you want me to be present at the ball welcoming the Vren?”

-Chief of Staff

“All Cabinet members are expected to be there, yes.” Hyrushi said. “I would strongly suggest learning everything you can about the Cabinet and the Vren between now and then. People there will understand your newness to the role, but the vids will be there and the people in their homes watching will not have the benefit of knowing your history. They will see you either succeed or fail. And failing here on Oed can be considerably painful, as I have explained.”

Hyrushi, Governor

“Have you seen the Government Tower t-shirt yet?” Dasca said to Caputo and spread her hands before her like she was revealing a headline. “Welcome to Oed’s Government. Don’t worry, ‘tis but a flesh wound,” she deadpanned.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

“I got the tote bag.” Ana said. “‘A little phaser burn never hurt anyone.’”

-Chief of Staff

Kenzo glanced at Eela with a look that conveyed his thoughts clearly to those who knew him well. I think this is going to work very well. He looked back at Caputo and said “Well said. Now then… what other questions do you have, Ms. Caputo?”

Hyrushi, Governor

Dasca’s hazel eyes just gazed at him in return and a simply blink was her reply.

Ana nodded. “Welcoming the Vren Ambassadors, will there be speeches, toasts, what have you? Or are you expecting this to be all on a more personal basis?” Her thoughts turned immediately to how poorly meeting the communications staff was going to go when the first thing she did was hand them a three day deadline.

-Chief of Staff

“We have discussed this and decided that the first greetings will take place outside the Oed Museum where the gala will be held and will be viewable by the press, yes, but will be more personal. Myself, the Governor and Ambassador Mathis have spoke with Ambassador Kek on multiple occasions, but this will be the first we’ve met the others. Once inside, there will likely be toasts, yes. So, a mix of both personal and formal,” Eela said.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

“I’ll have the communications staff on it before the end of the day to have a toast and some spare remarks ready for the Governor.” Ana noted, though she assumed Hyrushi would have some objection to offer.

-Chief of Staff

“Agreed. And that will give me time to prepare the final draft of my speech. Please make sure that the remarks are neutral enough to work in the setting. We will be with a species we know little about but who is very ritualistic. We don’t want to offend.” Hyrushi replied.

Hyrushi, Governor

“Of course. Overall neutral, but optimistic for the summit.” Ana paused. “You know, you’re not required to write your own speech, Governor. The staff can do these things for you, so your day is free to do more of your own job.”

-Chief of Staff

Kenzo looked at her and said “I do kot let others speak for me. Besides, if I am being honest and transparent, the words come quickly and ring of truth.”

Hyrushi, Governor

“There’s a difference between delegating the drafting of speeches, pending your approval, and letting someone else speak for you.” Ana countered. “Remember, sir, if you wish to govern you have to allocate time for so doing.”

-Chief of Staff

Dasca lifted her brows ever so slightly, though the gesture was always harder to see against her ridges and bulges of her forehead. What did Caputo think they’d been doing all this time. Yes, delegating was necessary and they both certainly did a lot of that on a daily basis, but deciding what deserved your specific attention was a very personal thing for a leader. What they focused on said something about them. She gave Kenzo a look but said nothing. She had things the discuss but right now she was more curious to see how this unfolded.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

“Oh, I am quite aware of the necessity of time management, Ms. Caputo.” Hyrushi said with no emotion or expression on his face. “I have been doing this for over a year now, after all. And no one has tried too hard to kill me; so I will take that a stamp of approval. But I do agree that there can be more delegation of certain tasks. But those tasks will be decided by myself… I ask that you simply note what tasks those will be and make the necessary arrangements. Is that acceptable to you?”

Hyrushi, Governor
