“Yeah, I’d have likely fallen and looked dumb.” Logan said. “And that definitely looks bad on my company for their CEO to die less than a year after the previous one.” went back to jogging on the treadmill, watching Cort and Hannah.

His turn of phrase was different. That wasn’t bad she guessed. She was walking at a brisk pace for a 7 minute interval that would slowly come down. Letting her heart rate slow. “You would not have fallen. The harness and rope and belay system stops that. I’m Hannah by the way.” Her voice was muffled, thick, didn’t enunciate crisply. She nodded to Cort, “Started climbing when I was big enough to walk.”

Hannah

Belanger took a moment to reply and then he seemed to understand something. “It’s nice to meet you Hannah, I’m Cort.” He gestured to Devalin. “And this is Scott. We were just talking about running. I enjoy outdoor activities but I have to admit I haven’t been climbing before.”

~Cort Belanger

“Nice to meet you Cort, Scott.” She greeted them in turn. She seemed to be the type that talked with her hands, “I heard there are some good hiking trails outside the city. Not much for scenery I would guess. I’d be happy to introduce you to climbing. The wall here is great, plenty of stop offs if you don’t want to climb the whole thing.” She opened the bottle of water she had sitting on the interface of the treadmill, “What types of activities do you two enjoy?” and she drank a third of her water.

Hannah

“I was telling Scott here that I do triathlons, or at least the training for them. Not a lot of time for the actual competitions. But climbing sounds like it would actually be good cross-training,” Cort said, his walking pace and he was easily able to talk.

~Cort Belanger

“I always thought I might want to try to complete a triathlon, but being ship side made that a bit complicated.” Hannah nodded the program starting to slow her pace. “It will build your endurance and train your muscles in a way a triathlon doesn’t. When was the last time you actually completed in one?”

Hannah Asimina

“Eighteen months ago, though it was just a sprint-distance one. It was before I came to Oed. I’ve thought about trying for one that’s coming up in a few months, but honestly, I’m not sure I’ll have time the way my job is looking. But maybe if I stick to the sprint, and not worry about a longer one, it could be doable,” Cort said, his treadmill beginning the last couple minutes of cool down. He took a swig from his water bottle.

~Cort Belanger

“Why not? If you have time to be in the gym, you can adjust what you are doing to help train for one. Even for a sprint distance. If you enjoy it, you should do it.” Hannah drank another large portion of her own water. “And Medical studies have proven that taking time to exercise free of work or other responsibilities, actually helps your mind and body reset and makes you more productive.”

Hannah

Cort chuckled. “Oh, I know. Hence why I’m here right now and try to get to the gym two or three times a week. Training requires more time than that though. Work is…” Belanger grinned. “I work for the Lieutenant Governor. Our office is a tad on the busy side lately.” An understatement… of the century. What with the Vren about to drop in and all the other things going on beyond the normal day-to-day work. “It’ll probably ease up in a few weeks. We hope,” he said with a light laugh. Somewhere Dasca was scolding him for jinxing them.

~Cort Belanger

Hannah grinned and shook her head. “You might want to run outside and knock on a tree. I get what you mean though. Different obstacles though. I’m the new AMO for the Star Fleet contingent. I don’t think I can imagine what her days look like.” Her treadmill slowed beeping a one minute warning. “So what’s good around here? I’ve not gotten to see much except in passing.”

Hannah

His treadmill had stopped, but Cort just stayed there for the moment and drank his water. “Depends on what you’re looking for I think. But there are lots of great places to eat. All kinds of shop, art galleries, and artisans. Definitely worth checking out the farmer’s market if that’s something that appeals to you. Your Commander-in-Chief is a regular customer,” Cort said with a grin.

“But honestly, there’s the recreation centre if you want other activities and sports. There are gardens. The Oed Museum is pretty interesting as well. The Plaza Exchange has all sort of curious vendors but don’t recommend going there alone at night. It gets sketchy out that way.”

~Cort Belanger

“I have heard about the Plaza Exchange. It’s in our briefing packet that it is required to go with the ‘buddy system’.” Hannah actually air quoted, “And forbidden at night except for in duty security officers that have been specifically requested by Oed officials. Same with medical requests for the area. I admit I am intrigued, but not reckless enough to venture out to fund out why it has that reputation.” Hannah grinned and pointed at the climbing wall. “I get my thrills other ways.”

“I know the feeling,” Belanger said with a laugh.

Hannah finished her water at the same time her treadmill stopped. “A Farmer’s Market? That sounds fun. I used to spend my weekends at the Academy going to places like that. I will have to go look. Assuming I get a Saturday off. If you like pizza I found this great place, Madpizza, a couple blocks from the hospital. Traditional brick oven baked. It’s worth the walk.”

Hannah

Cort stepped off the treadmill and took another swig of water. “You know, I’ve seen the place but never been in. I’ll have to try it, especially now that it has a recommendation,” he said with a grin. “Because, I will say, while there are some fantastic places to eat around here, there are some that are just plain terrible.

~Cort Belanger

“After all my time in service, I have found no truer and inaccurate statement. It all depends on perspective. And if you’re lucky, and I’m guessing you aren’t, you get to skip diplomatic dinners.” Hannah grinned widely eyes dancing, giving the impression she was laughing, but she didn’t. She gave it some thought, “The museum would probably be a good idea. Any other Oed cultural places, events you recommend?” Hannah had been to enough colonies and outposts to know that these areas told you a lot about the people. Even if she was only there for a few days, it helped to understand the people’s needs better.

Hannah

“No, I’ don’t get to skip those dinners,” Cort said with a grin. Not that he minded actually- it came with the job description. “But honestly, anything in and around Sloane Square. It’s the original centre of the former dome and everything radiates out from there. That’s where they set up the farmer’s market and it’s a great place to sit and watch people going about life. You can really get a sense of the community that way. There’s a fairly new performance arts theatre here that hosts all sorts of amateur and professional shows, if you’re into the arts. And the recreation centre often hosts sporting events too. Actually, there are sports all over the colony depending on what you’re interested in.”

~Cort Belanger

Hannah nodded, “I will have to do some more exploring there then. Oed is so diverse, and everything was packed into such a relatively small space. I feel like I could miss really wonderful aspects by accident.” The treadmill stopped and Hannah stepped to the floor. “I may have to see if there is a lacrosse team. One of the nurses, plays in the baseball league. Sacred Heart has its own team.”

Hannah

“I know the Starfleet Complex runs things as well. You never know who might have thrown something together.” Cort’s eyes lit up. “You know who you should ask if you see her about? Dasca’s aide-de-camp, Lt. Watts. She and the other staffer in our office apparently planned a scavenger hunt for her husband’s birthday and they him running all over the place,” he said with a chuckle. “They found some really obscure places too.”

~Cort Belanger

Hannah smiled, “That sounds like fun. I will have to ask if I run into her.” Hannah turned to Scott, “So what led you to be CEO of a shipping magnate so young?”
