Tabris found himself outside the office of the Lieutenant Governor of OED V. He had already met the crew of the USS Centurion and settled into his role as Chief Engineer there; now it was time for colonial Operations as he looked forward to getting acquainted with the local officials and further integrating himself into the community.

As Tabris stood there, he took a moment to appreciate his surroundings. OED V was a vibrant and diverse place, teeming with life and potential. He thought about his family back at their residence on the planet and how fortunate they were to be part of such a thriving environment. He adjusted his glasses and smoothed out his uniform, feeling at ease in the laid-back atmosphere. He knew that building relationships with local officials like the Lieutenant Governor would be crucial for his success and the well-being of his crew and family.

The Lieutenant Governor’s office took up the whole second-to-top floor of the Government Tower, with the Governor taking the top floor. Exiting from the lift was a open space with windows looking over the colony and a few comfortable chairs. To the left was a small hallway with rooms in that direction, while to the right was a large reception area with an arced desk where a young Napean woman with vibrant purple hair was standing, reading a PaDD. Beyond her to the right of the desk was a short hallway with another office to the right. At the end of the hallway was a set of double doors in a pale wood tone.

The empathic assistant and receptionist looked up and smiled at Asam. “Good day, how I can help you?” she said lightly with an easy smile.

Tabris took in the impressive view of the colony from the windows as he entered the Lieutenant Governor’s office, noting the tasteful layout and comfortable atmosphere. He approached the reception area, where the young Napean woman stood, her attention focused on a PaDD.

As she looked up and greeted him with a warm smile, Tabris returned the gesture, his green eyes conveying a sense of friendliness. “Good day,” he replied. “I’m Tabris Asam, the new Chief Engineer for the USS Centurion and Operations Officer for the colony. I have an appointment with the Lieutenant Governor. I’m here to introduce myself and discuss how we can work together for the betterment of OED V.”

Elema grinned at the words and the confidence behind them. “She’s expecting you, so go right on in,” she said, gesturing to the double doors.

The large rectangular office, which took over the corner of the floor, was filled with windows directly ahead and to the right. Dasca’s polished black desk was L-shaped and set in the right corner so her back was to the windows, but she could gaze out along the long side. Currently, on this pleasant sunny day, the windows were strategically tinted to block glare on her computer screen. In front of her desk were two chairs backed by a decorative screen made of transparent glass tiles creating a mosaic of a mountainous landscape with a large waterfall. Hooked off the side of her desk was the black cane she used that nearly blended into the desk.

On the other side of the screen was a large oval table in the same black polished wood as her desk. It was set with many chairs around it that could double as a meeting space as well as a dining table. Adjacent to that in what was framed as a U-Shaped sitting nook were a large dark blue couch flanked by two light grey arm chairs nestled around an oval coffee table. It was something of an art piece, with a clear glass top and the base was a dark wood spiral that narrowed down to a round footing. Matching side tables were tucked in the ‘corners’ between the sofa and arm chairs. On the wall was a large carved wood frame that actually surrounded a screen where Dasca could hold virtual meetings or watch the news or whatever as needed.

Throughout the space were plants of various sizes from small trees to a living arrangement on her desk in a stone bowl. Hanging plants were strategically hung from the ceiling to take up blank space or help divide the large office into the cozier work and lounge areas. The interior walls held a couple abstract paintings in sweeping strokes and muted tones that added to the calming feel of an office that was almost always busy. Near her desk was a freestanding trellis with a trailing plant with chartreuse heart shaped leaves, edged in black with bright pink veining. One of the vines had crept down to the floor and was pointed in the direction of her chair.

Rising from her desk, Eela Dasca cut an elegant figure in black trousers, white blouse and a mid-thigh length black jacket embroidered all over in a floral pattern. Her black hair was swept into a twist, the subtle silver streaks swirling. “Commander Asam, welcome to Oed. Come let’s have a chat, shall we?” she said, her warm hazel eyes him in as she gestured to the sitting area.

Tabris walked into the office, absorbing the carefully curated aesthetic of the space. He took a moment to appreciate the thoughtful details; the tinted windows, the plants breathing life into the office, the stunning glass mosaic, and the striking spiral base of the coffee table. The blend of the natural and the modern, the tangible and the abstract, was simultaneously calming and stimulating.

At the sight of Eela Dasca, he smiled and offered a respectful nod. Her presence commanded attention, and her welcoming demeanor put him at ease. The floral embroidery on her jacket, intricate and delicate, stood out against her black and white attire, hinting at an appreciation for art and detail that mirrored the space she inhabited.

“Lt. Governor Dasca,” he greeted, his voice steady and warm. “Thank you for having me. This is quite an impressive office.”

He followed her gesture and made his way to the sitting area. He chose one of the light grey armchairs, settling in and angling himself to face her directly. The chair was as comfortable as it was stylish, offering a pleasant contrast to the formality of most Starfleet offices he had been in.

“I appreciate your time,” he continued, leaning back slightly in his seat. “I’ve been looking forward to our chat. I must say, Oed V has already made quite an impression on me and my family.”

He met her hazel eyes with a genuine smile, eager to delve into the conversation and learn more about the bustling community he was now a part of.
