Tabris walked into the medical facility on OED V with his four adopted children in tow. Neltus, the El-Aurian boy, looked curiously at the surroundings, while Vedi and Mecona, the Cardassian siblings, whispered to each other excitedly. Julin, the Bajoran boy, gripped Tabris’ hand tightly, a little nervous about the upcoming medical check.

Tabris smiled reassuringly at his children as he adjusted his vintage glasses. “Don’t worry, kids. This is just a routine check-up. You all remember Auntie Sharah right? I hear she’s the head doctor!”

Vedi, the more outspoken of the Cardassian siblings, piped up, “Anutie Sharah is here? No way!!!!!”

Tabris nodded, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. “That’s right, kiddo last I heard Auntie Sharah was the chief medical officer here at the colony. I’m sure she’d be happy to take a pause on her busy schedule to clear you four for duty!” Tabris said with a chuckle.

Sharah was running a scan on a patient when a strong ping flashed across her mind. She couldn’t take the time just then to listen. It was probably Yavia, but it didn’t feel like her. Maybe someone needed her for a consult. They would call her when they were ready.

As they entered the lobby he tapped his combadge and said, =/\=This is Commander Asam to Lt. Commander Fayth. Please come in=/\=

Sharah paused as she exited the exam area. Commander Asam? Eldorin? No…no that was Tabris’ voice! Her presence shot across the hospital and Tabris and Neltus would feel the familiar contact of the Betazoid woman and the pure joy she felt.

Simultaneously she reached for someone else, Yavia, to share her surprise and joy and astonishment. She didn’t bother to answer Tabris. Instead she left the wing she was on and hurried to the lobby of the hospital.

After the line closed he bent down slightly and said with a smile, “Alright, kids, let’s get our check-ups done, and then we can go out for some ice cream to celebrate,” Tabris suggested, hoping to ease any lingering nerves.

Julin’s face lit up at the mention of ice cream. “Really, Dad? Can I get the Risan chocolate swirl?”

Tabris chuckled and ruffled Julin’s hair. “Of course, buddy. We’ll all pick our favorite flavors.”

The children’s excitement grew as they chatted about their ice cream choices while waiting for their turn with Dr. Sharah. Tabris couldn’t help but feel grateful for the sense of community and support they had found on OED V, and he knew that this was just the beginning of many more memorable moments with his family.

– Tabris –

Sharah appeared in a swirl of purple and blue and black - her blue and black Star Fleet uniform with the purple Sacred Heart Hospital lab coat. She didn’t pause until she almost collided with Tabris as she wrapped him in a huge warm hug. “Tabris!”

Her exuberant welcome drew attention. The medical staff were aware of Dr Fayth’s quirkiness if not the cause of it. She was not one to be overly expressive in her emotions and she didn’t hug people.

She looked at the four children and laughed out a smile. Neltus and Vedi had grown, not much but a little, but they looked good, healthy and filled out some. A hint of the teenagers they would become peeking through.Mecona had lost some of her baby softness, her hair was longer and braided, and she knew Tabris had done it. And Julin, her cuddle buddy was as hyper and excited as ever. She knelt in front of them and dragged them all into one giant tight hug. “When did you get here? How?” She looked up at Tabris, “Why are you here?”

Sharah

Tabris was pleasantly surprised by Sharah’s exuberant appearance and the warm hug she wrapped him in. He returned the embrace, a wide smile spreading across his face as he greeted her, “Sharah, it’s so good to see you again!”

As Sharah knelt down to hug all four children, Tabris watched the happy reunion with a sense of gratitude and joy. He knew how much his family meant to Sharah and was glad they could reconnect here on OED V.

When she asked about their arrival and the reason for their presence, Tabris answered, “I’ve been assigned to the USS Centurion as their Chief Engineer and at OED V as the Operations Officer. We arrived just a short while ago and wanted to come for our check-ups and, of course, to see you, our dear friend.”

His eyes twinkled with excitement as he continued, “We’re looking forward to being a part of this community and working together to make OED V an even better place for everyone. I think this will be my last assignment. I really want to settle down here with the kids and Geoff.”

Sharah looked up at him, surprise and happiness and hope. “I thought Viking was your last assignment? You were going to settle in Ireland with your parents.” She thought she understood a little. Earth was where he grew up, but Tabris had traveled for a long time and always seemed to go where there was challenge. Oed was that. Also it was a huge conglomeration of people and cultures. His family would find ready acceptance here without all the questions. There was tradition and newness in the colony. “I think you’re going to like it here. Oed is amazing.”

The children’s faces lit up with excitement when they saw their Auntie Sharah. They all began talking at once, trying to share their stories and experiences with her as quickly as possible.

Neltus grinned, waving his hands animatedly, “Auntie Sharah! You won’t believe the cool stuff we’ve been learning in school! I’m so good at astrophysics now!”

Sharah grinned, “I always thought you would be.” She glanced at Tabris with a question in her eyes. Neltus had struggled with the empathic input and it had affected his concentration.

Vedi chimed in, nearly shouting over his brother, “And Auntie, I’ve been taking holodeck martial arts lessons! I even won my first competition last month!”

“I’m not surprised at all, Vedi. I bet you’re a natural.” Her thoughts turned to Charles and his skills. He could probably teach Vedi a lot more than a holodeck program could.

Mecona, not to be outdone, added with pride, “I’ve been learning how to play the Vulcan harp, Auntie! I can’t wait to play you a song!” Mecona would be the most surprising of all, really coming out of her shell from the last time Sharah would have seen her.

Sharah’s eyes widened in surprise and she shared a smile with the two older boys and Tabris. Mecona had been so very quiet and shy, relying on her older brothers to speak up for her. Sharah set a hand on her shoulder and grinned, “And I can’t wait to hear you play. I bet it’s the most beautiful music ever.”

Julin, bouncing around with a stuffed animal in one hand and a toy spaceship in the other, excitedly said, “Auntie! I can’t wait to go exploring on the colony! I haven’t made friends here yet, but I know I’ll meet some cool kids when we explore the parks and hidden places!”

Sharah was reminded of the children’s arboretum on Ark Angel and Julin’s fearlessness. He’d scared to no end with his climbing and jumping and dare devilishness. She ruffled his hair, “There are SO many hidden places on Oed, not just the parks. And there are more every day. You will be as old as your dad and still not find them all.” She laughed at the wide eyed disbelief on Julin’s face. Their father was very old after all. “You’ll make more friends at school too. Everyone goes to school together here. You’ll get to meet lots of people.”

The cacophony of voices filled the room as the children eagerly vied for Sharah’s attention, trying to share all their recent experiences and achievements. Amidst the chaos, Tabris couldn’t help but smile at the heartwarming scene, feeling a deep sense of joy seeing the bond between Sharah and his kids.

Sharah listened for a few minutes, catching more than they were saying. Tabris and the kids were used to that though, and then she dragged them all into another giant hug and then stood up. She hugged Tabris again hard. “A lot has changed. There are a couple of people I really want you to meet. Let’s get you all checked in first.” She motioned toward the hallway where she’d come from, letting her hands be grabbed by the children as they walked. “So are you going to stay on the fleet complex or try and find more permanent housing on the colony?”

She ushered them into a larger exam room, “Alright, who’s first?” She stopped a medic, “Will you ask Nurse Crockett to come down here?” The medic nodded, “Sure thing Dr Fayth.”

Sharah

Tabris laughed as Sharah enveloped them all in another hug, his heart swelling with the palpable love and warmth in the room. He returned her embrace, glancing at his children who were smiling brightly, their eyes filled with affection for their Auntie Sharah.

“Thank you, Sharah,” he said, his voice soft yet filled with gratitude. “We’ve missed you.”

Sharah grinned, “I’ve missed you all too.” She was feeling overwhelmed by their sudden appearance but also it was such a wonderful and welcome surprise.

At her question, he nodded, understanding the gravity of what it meant to finally lay down roots. “We’re currently staying in the fleet complex,” he began, “but we’re looking into finding more permanent housing on the colony. A place we can truly call our own. And yes, the Viking was supposed to be my last post, but when the opportunity arose here I knew that I could plant some roots while finishing out my tour then settle into the life that we’ve already built.”

Sharah nodded, “Well there are a lot of possibilities now. With the atmospheric shield up there are little communities popping up all over the place. And with people moving out of the main city, there is a lot coming available here as well. It will be an adventure to go look.”

He was interrupted by his kids’ excited chatter, their eyes wide with anticipation as they all vied to be the first one checked in.

“Me first, Auntie Sharah!” Julin called out, his lisp making his words all the more endearing. He bounced on his toes, his toy spaceship bobbing in his hand.

“Nah, I think it should be me!” Vedi countered, a teasing grin on his face. He nudged Julin playfully, earning a giggle from the younger boy.

Mecona, ever the peacekeeper, chimed in, “Why don’t we do it in age order? That way it’s fair for everyone.” She looked to Neltus for approval, who simply nodded with a wise smile.

Tabris chuckled at their antics, his heart filled with joy. He looked back at Sharah, his eyes shining with unspoken gratitude. Despite the chaos of their reunion, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Alright, who’s first indeed?” he echoed Sharah’s question, his eyes glinting with amusement. “We’re all ready when you are, Sharah.” He nudged Neltus gently, indicating that he should be the first to go.

He shrugged a little and offered a smile, “Guess I’ll go first?” Neltus said with a light shrug.

–Tabris and Kids–

“Up you get then,” Sharah smiled and waved at the biobed. There was a knock on the door, and Sharah turned toward the door as it cracked open. A betazoid woman with light brown hair stuck her hair in. “Dr Fayth, Yavia is up in the ICU, she can’t come right now. Can I help?”

“Ilena, come in.” The door closed behind the woman, “Ilena this is Cmdr Tabris Asam and his children. He’s just joined us.” She turned toward the kids and Tabris, “This is my friend, Lt Ilena Rox. She’s an excellent nurse, and she’s going to help me.” She pulled out her tricorder and scanner and ran them over Neltus. Neltus had suffered from a severe malnutrition when he was an infant and it had kept him small during early childhood. He had been on vitamin suppliments for a long time. So Sharah wanted to make sure everything was still going well. “Ilena will you take a blood sample? I want a full metabolic panel. Then put a rush on it to the lab. I want the results before they leave.” She winked at Neltus, “Super easy right? Just like getting a hypo. How are your energy levels? Any more headaches?”

Auntie Sharah

Tabris watched as Sharah introduced the nurse, nodding politely to Ilena. “Pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Rox,” he greeted, his tone friendly.

Neltus, now quite used to Starfleet medical procedures, nodded confidently at Sharah’s instructions. “Sure, Dr. Fayth,” he replied with a little giggle as he used his auntie’s ‘official’ title, rolling up his sleeve in readiness. He shot his father a quick, reassuring smile before turning back to the doctor. “Energy levels are normal, I think. And no headaches.” The boy replied with a light smile

On the other hand, Mecona, sitting on the adjecent biobed, looked slightly apprehensive as she watched the exchange. She’d always been more sensitive to medical procedures, even the most benign ones. “Is it going to hurt?” she asked tentatively, looking at the nurse with wide eyes.

Tabris gave Mecona a comforting smile, taking her small hand in his. “It’s like a quick pinch, sweetheart. Just like when we did your immunizations. Remember, you were brave then, and I know you’re brave now.”

The warmth in his voice, the reassurance of his presence, seemed to help. The girl nodded, biting her lower lip in a display of resolve, while Neltus just chuckled and gently teased his sister, “See, Mecona? Easy peasy.”
