McBride chuckled. “We have space for visiting personnel, though if you had illusions of lots of space, get rid of them now. But they beds all pretty comfortable, actually.” It wasn’t his first time on this kind of ship, and he was pretty comfortable with the lighter amenities.

He pulled up Korczak’s record (to look it over for himself) and assigned him to one of the free berths. “You’re on Deck 5. Officer’s get their own room but you share a washroom with the person next door. Room 517,” he said, tapping a key to confirm. “Never let anyone say a CO isn’t willing to roll up their sleeves,” he said with a twinkle in his blue eyes.

Korczak stood and said “Only the good ones, Captain. Only the good ones.” and he nodded once and turned to the door. He paused before walking out and said “And I am available to you too, sir. Just so you know.” and he turned and walked out the door.

McBride looked over the record and the more he read, the more his brows lifted.

Leaning back in his chair, Jon tapped his fingers on the desk. Somehow the mystery man shtick made sense and he hadn’t entirely bought the mistaken orders thing either. He was admittedly here on Oed to help Lieutenant Mika with her case load. A case load that on Oed. There could be 20,000 personnel in the system at a time and he thought all of them were supposed to board the ship. Nah. He understood that they were just going to brush off the man’s appearance here, but there was a part of him that wondered if someone else was meddling where they were not wanted. It was something to discuss with Dasca later. Today, they were going for a little jaunt out of the system.

After being summoned to the bridge by the distress call, Jonathan stepped back into his office with Fayth and gestured to one of the chairs at his desk. “What’s on your mind, Commander?” he said as he settled into his own chair.

Sharah slipped into the chair and tried to order her thoughts. “Interpersonal conflict. Another member of the senior staff requested I use my,” Sharah tapped her temple, “telepathy in a manner that is not only mentally and emotionally damaging but physically as well. I intend to address the issue myself, but as my direct superior, I thought it best to inform you.” The doctor was obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

Jonathan rested his hands on the table and gazed at her, mild concern radiating from him. “I see. I’m glad you mentioned it to me, and if you say you’re willing to handle it yourself, I’m happy to leave it in your hands.” He paused, gathering his thoughts, and sighed a little. “Just so we’re on the same page, I want you to know that I would never ask you to use your abilities. If you offer or have insight you wish to convey, that is one thing and we can discuss each situation as it arises, but I’m not going to presume what is okay for you. Even in a crisis, I won’t order you to use them.”

Sharah nodded, “I know, Cpt., and I appreciate that immensely.” She ket out a weary sigh, “It’s a difficult situation for me. It is not a matter of unwillingness, but a matter of being lost and controlled by it. It is one thing to over hear something and then try to interpret. To actively search it out and read other’s thoughts, to speak with them, is very dangerous for me. It is a very delicate and precarious line I walk.” She held up her hands in a sort of defeated gesture. “The person who asked is aware of this, of the risk to me.”

The implication was that this person should damn well know better, but knowing and understanding were two different things. “I’m not going to pretend I’m thrilled our shakedown cruise is generating interpersonal conflict amongst my senior officers, but I suppose it’s better now than another time.” Even their distress call was only as urgent as the time it took to get there.” McBride leaned back in his chair. “What do you need from me?”

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

“I’m not thrilled about it either, Cpt. I sincerely apologize that this is happening. I…I never would have thought he would have asked such a thing. We were quite close at one time. I would like to say that there will be no problem, no issue. We are capable of working it out calmly. But the person I thought he was would never have asked me such a thing.” Sharah shrugged slightly, “I don’t really need anything Cpt. I just thought…I should make you aware.” Sharah wasn’t good at standing her ground with people. Her empathy made it too easy for her to understand and feel what they did. This whole situation was embarrassing for her as well as scary implications.
