Sharah nodded, “I know, Cpt., and I appreciate that immensely.” She ket out a weary sigh, “It’s a difficult situation for me. It is not a matter of unwillingness, but a matter of being lost and controlled by it. It is one thing to over hear something and then try to interpret. To actively search it out and read other’s thoughts, to speak with them, is very dangerous for me. It is a very delicate and precarious line I walk.” She held up her hands in a sort of defeated gesture. “The person who asked is aware of this, of the risk to me.”

The implication was that this person should damn well know better, but knowing and understanding were two different things. “I’m not going to pretend I’m thrilled our shakedown cruise is generating interpersonal conflict amongst my senior officers, but I suppose it’s better now than another time.” Even their distress call was only as urgent as the time it took to get there.” McBride leaned back in his chair. “What do you need from me?”
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
“I’m not thrilled about it either, Cpt. I sincerely apologize that this is happening. I…I never would have thought he would have asked such a thing. We were quite close at one time. I would like to say that there will be no problem, no issue. We are capable of working it out calmly. But the person I thought he was would never have asked me such a thing.” Sharah shrugged slightly, “I don’t really need anything Cpt. I just thought…I should make you aware.” Sharah wasn’t good at standing her ground with people. Her empathy made it too easy for her to understand and feel what they did. This whole situation was embarrassing for her as well as scary implications.

Jonathan gave her a small mile. “Doctor… Sharah. Look, crap happens. There’s always something. I’m sorry that you have to deal with this, but there’s no apology needed. It’s not your fault it came up. But I get it. No one likes their personal matters being an issue at work. We’ll deal with it. And if for some reason the situation can’t be resolved on your own, talk to me again. I promise I’ll do my best to keep it under wraps. We all have to work together, we’ll find a way forward, okay?”
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
“Thank you, Captain.” She took a deep breath, “I really do appreciate that.” Sharah felt far too inexperienced for this. This kind of thing happened to junior officers. That’s what she should be. This whole thing was insane. 3 years almost 4 to Lt Cmdr…crazy. “I should probably get started on pulling the crew manifest and their medical records.”
