Mike laughed and said “Only if you think Seamus and Capall will forgive you for leaving them with that.”Mike
“Pfft. They chose to marry them. I had nothing to do with it. They had to know those two were trouble hen they met them. Runa dragged Capall into a horde of angry Scotts and Vikings, brandishing sword and shield demanding to be branded a traitor because she loved him. And Seamus. He’s told the story of how Ragna ended up in his house and in his bed, her migraine, that he swears as a gift of the gods, and her subsequent ‘misunderstanding’ so many times I think I was there to witness it.” Revna laughed, staring up at the sinking sun. “Oh Mike, it does my heart good to know they are all happy.”
Revna
Mike stared at the sky for a long time. “I hope that happiness can buoy them up for the next couple’a years. It’s gonna be a lot of really hard work to get the land up to where we can live off of it. If we can. There is still a whole lotta that could go wrong. I don’t relish the idea of makin’ everyone pack up and head back to Earth. That would be a blow and a half, for sure…”
Mike McKenzie
Revna blew out a breath. “I don’t relish it either. But it will still be an adventure, one that the whole clan took on together. It will be a blow if it doesn’t work out, but a bigger one if we don’t admit it and fix it.” Her hand found his and she laced her fingers with his. “When I talked to Runa last, she said they got geographical scans of the land and Capall turned it into a holodeck program. They are using it to get everyone used to the reality and the work. Surely, by the time we arrive, Seamus should know if it will work? If we can do it. It might take years and more hard work than anyone can imagine. Maybe he will have ideas of some things we can start before the ship arrives? We can hire out if need be?”
What they were attempting was daunting. It would either make the clan stronger or tear it apart. Whichever way it went was on Revna and Mike. To an extent people would be looking to Runa, Capall, Ragna, and Seamus, but in the end it was she and Mike held the responsibility. “There is a part of me that wants to tell Kris to head straight to Oed. So we can get there, see what us what, and get started. But I also know we need this. Just the two of us, or we won’t be any good for the rest of them.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike thought for a moment and then said “Ok… do how about we stretch out the stay here? Say… two weeks. Then we go straight to Oed. No stops longer than a day for fuel and food. If I’m guessing right, that should put us at Oed eight weeks before the ship arrives. 2 months to sort out things, plan, and see where we stand with land development and with the local government. How does that sound?”
Mike McKenzie
It was a matter of weighing personal needs against their responsibilities and the clan’s needs. 95% of the time, the clan was going to come first. “It’s a good compromise. We were supposed to go to Misek to visit your drummer. We could still do that, just leave here a couple days early. Or Misek is close enough, have him come here.” Revna turned her head to look at him and grinned, “You aren’t trying to get out of the surprise I have planned for you, are you? Because I can make it happen, here.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike laughed. “When have I ever complained about your surprises?” he said and grinned at her. “And I’m open for whatever.. but I think getting there sooner rather than on time is a better idea.”
Mike McKenzie
Revna agreed, sooner was better. However they weren’t here to work, and it had been at least half an hour since she had teased him. She gave it serious thought for a minute, “Weeeell … you didn’t seem to happy about the surprise of me quiting the diplomatic service. I remember you muttering something about ruining all your bachelor party time. So maybe I should just cancel it until I get to know you better? Maybe you won’t like it.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike shrugged and called her bluff. “Well, you already know me pretty well… but if you think you should you should, I can’t really stop ya. Not knowing what it is and all.” he said with a grin. He then laid his head back and closed his eyes. “Tomorrow, we really need to remember to bring a bucket of beer. That would make this epic…” and he sighed, but grinned.
Mike McKenzie
Revna laughed quietly. They both knew she was going to do it anyway. “Well there are frosted beer flights waiting on our balcony for us and food. We could move back up there.” She rolled to her side and gently turned his face toward her and kissed him. “Or do you want to swim more before we do?”
Revna McKenzie
He gazed at his wife and smiled. “Lets go back up. I mean. I guess we have plenty of time to swim now, right?” and he kissed her. He slowly stood up and then held a hand out to Revna. “Sorry we lost your suit in the water… but not really sorry.” he said with a lecherous grin up and down her body.
Mike McKenzie
Revna grabbed his hand and let him pull her up until she was standing, pressed against him in his arms. She grinned, “That’s okay, I knew that suit wouldn’t last after the first encounter. I have others.” She gave him the same hungry look he gave her. “Though I think I left them on the ship.” She started walking and paused a little further up the beach and bent over to grab the sheer purple skit. She tossed it over her shoulder. They got to the stairs and she waved at them with a grin, “After you.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike groaned loudly as she retrieved the skirt. He knew was an intentional movement made to illicit just that response, and it worked like a charm. “No… Im thinking the view is better of I follow you, Rev. So please… after you.” and he grinned.
Mike McKenzie
Revna turned around, stepping backwards up the first few steps, so she was eye level with him. “Now see, when do I get my view? You’ve gotten plenty,” she grinned, her eyes traveling over him. “Besides if you follow me, we’ll never make it to the top because I bet you can’t keep your hands off me the whole way. Stairs are dangerous you know.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike grinned. “Now you know damn well what happens when Edman girls bet McKenzie boys. You lose, and end up having to marry us. So, seein’ as we’re already married, what do I get if I win?” he said as he moved up to the step she was on and held himself less than a fingers width from touching her.
Mike McKenzie
The pure joy and playfulness was impossible to miss. As well as a touch of wickedness. She leaned forward a hairs breath, “You get date number 6.” She leaned back just a little, “Oh and that thing…you know that you say makes you wanna pass out? You get that too.” She lifted both hands palm up, “but if you don’t like that wager, you can name your prize.” Yes Revna was fully aware of how much trouble that would get her.
Revna McKenzie
Mike leaned in and was a hair’s breadth away from her ear as he whispered “And what do you get if I lose?” wickedly, but not touching her.
Mike McKenzie
Revna grinned, “I get the intrinsic reward of being able to say I won, you plan date 7,” the she laughed a low sultry sound, “and you still have to keep your hands to yourself, but I don’t.” She turned her face to look him in the eye, “Deal?”
Revna McKenzie
“Deal.” Mike said and took a step back, clasping his hands behind him. “Lead on, Lady McKenzie. And know that I fully intend to hold the time honored record of besting McKenzie women in bets. We have a tradition to uphold, you know.” and he winked at her.
Mike McKenzie
Heat rushed from her toes all the way to her cheeks. She could melt right there. Revna didn’t foresee the effect of that wink ever changing, and she never wanted it to.
The climb up the stairs was loooong and slow. Revna climbed the stairs, hips and hair swaying as she did so. She paused to lean over the railing once, bent over to pick up an iridescent stone she spotted, stretching up to trail her fingers along the roof of the tunnel ceiling…
Revna McKenzie
Mike watched every. Single. Move. she made as they walked the stairs up towards their suite. His eyes roamed over her and he drank in the view like a first-timwr at an Orion strip club. But, to his credit, he kept his hands to himself. Granted, the grip he had on the hand behind his back was making pins and needle feelings in his fingers; and the lack of clothes left nothing to hide his true thoughts about the woman he was married to. The only sounds from him were groans, grumbles, and every so often a catch of his breath.
Mike
Revna didn’t say anything, but every so often she would glance back at him, all of him and smile. Half way up the stairs, she started to sing. Revna knew quite well she was going to lose the bet, that didn’t mean she wasn’t winning.
Revna McKenzie
Mike grinned as she sang. He walked with her, half maneuvering himself to avoid touching her… half moving her further up the stairs. A few steps before the top of the stairs she finished and he grinned. “Thats a pretty bold statement coming from you, hun.”and he winked at her again. As her heel finally found the landing at the very top of the stairs, Mike rushed forward, bent over, put the top of his left shoulder gently across her stomach and lifted her up off the ground with her thrown over his shoulder. A hand found purchase on her bare backside and he almost yelled “I WIN!” as he ran them both into the villa and to the waiting bedroom…
Mike McKenzie
Some time hours later, the sun had disappeared and risen in the sky again and was alread just past noon. The light falling on the water was dazzling and Revna sat on the balcony sipping the local version of black tea. It had a hint if butterscotch to it. It was interesting. Revna stood and moved back inside. She stood in the bedroom door way watching Mike sleep for a minute. Then she slipped gently onto the edge of the bed and kissed him awake.
Revna McKenzie
“You are a demon woman out to drain my life force, aren’t you?” he muttered from under the pillow he had put over his head to block out the light. “I love you, and the spirit is willing; but the flesh is swollen and probably bruised.”
Mike McKenzie
Revna’s laugh was soft and danced over his skin. “That is totally your fault Lird McKenzie. No ine said you had to claim your winnings that way.” She gave him a lingering, warm, but chaste kiss. “I just wanted you to know I’m going out. I have a 6th date to plan. When I get back, I’ll massage all those sore and bruised parts.” She chuckled again and got up.
Revna McKenzie
Mike didn’t reply, but his lifted his arm enough to give her a wave goodbye before he fell back asleep.
Actually, he was just waiting for her to leave. As soon as he heard the door close, he counted to thirty and then was up, dressed, and on the comm terminal. “Everything ready?” he said to the man who appeared on the screen. “Yes, sir!” the man said with a smile. “It’ll be there tomorrow morning, and we’ll bring it in when you are still asleep so you won’t even have to call.” Mike smiled and said “Much appreciated. See you then!” and he cut the comms.
Mike McKenzie
Revna was gone for a little over 3 hours. When she returned she was carrying two garmet bags and a couple of bags full of boxes of various sizes. She was humming and smiling as she entered. “Mike?” She called quietly just in case he was asleep still. She moved into the bedroom and carefully hung the garmets in the closet and placed the other bags inside as well. Except for one small bag of a shimmering material that she set next to the bed.
Revna McKenzie
“Balcony, hun!” his voice carried in from the outside. Mike was lounging in a chair, and he held an actual book. He looked up at her and smiled. He reached out, took her hand, and then in (almost) perfect Norwegian, said “Jeg savnet deg mer enn avlingene savner regnet.” (I missed you more than the crops miss rain.) and he grinned.
Mike McKenzie
Revna smiled and squeezed his hand with delight, “You are full of surprises,” and slid onto his lap. “Jeg savnet deg mer enn et seil savner vinden. (I missed you more than a sail misses the wind.)” She pressed her lips to his, savoring his warmth, reveling in their connection.
She laid against his chest, “Did you get enough sleep? It’s going to be a late night.”
Revna McKenzie
Mike grinned. “Isn’t it always? We are on our honeymoon, after all.” he said as he held her close. “But yeah, I did. Annnnd… I got you a surprise. Ot won’t be here till tomorrow, though. I hope you don’t have plans.”
Mike McKenzie
“Ohhhh, I like your surprises, though half the time they get me into trouble.” Revna looked out at the ocean and then back at him. “No plans. Your surprise will be here tomorrow evening at the earliest the day after if everything goes right.” She sat up and grinned at him, “Everything is set for our date tonight. Oh! And the taylor will be here in about an hour to adjust your tux. So do you want your massage now or after?”
Revna McKenzie
“Tux? Aww, dammit. I thought I was done with that thing.” he said in mock disappointment. “And as to the massage… depends on who is giving it. If someone’s coming in, give me an hour. If it’s you… give me ten minutes to drink some water.” and he chuckled.
Mike McKenzie
Revna laughed as she sat up, “Oh no, it’s me. I promised before I left this morning, and there is no way in any of the nine realms I am letting anyone else put their hands all over you. Drink your water and then come lay down.” Revna got up moving over to the bed and pulling all the excess sheets and blankets off and excess pillows. She took the small bottle out of the bag she had set on the small table and set it in a bowl of hot water. Then she slipped off her shoes and pulled her hair back into a ponytail.
Revna McKenzie
Mike went inside, saw her put her hair up and immediately began a planetary record for fastest time to fill and drink a glass of water and take off his clothes. He laid down on the bed and slid under the sheet halfway. He looked at Rev and said “So how do you want me?” and he wiggled his eyebrows up an d down in the most juvenile fashion.
Mike McKenzie
“Oh, I think you are fine just the way you are.” Revna snickered and gave him a long once over as she lifted the bottle and poured some of the warmed oil in her hands. The oil smelled of bonfires and sea air to her. The proprietor claimed it smelled differently to each person. She rubbed the oil over her palms and sat down next to him and began to work the oil first into his shoulder and then moved slowly down his arm to palm and fingers. Her hands moved across his shoulders then down one leg before moving to the other side and working her way back up, slowly with care to his other arm.
Revna was quiet while she slowly worked the oil into his skin and it soaked into tissue and muscle. There was never a lack of passion and attraction between them, but this was about the caring of him and connection and a deeper level of intimacy than just the physical. Oil was added to the tips of her fingers and then reached up setting her fingers to his temples. Finger tips circled and smoothed over his brow, temple and gentle on the soft point behind the ears. She massaged the oil into the back of his neck and down across his shoulders and then over his chest.
Revna leaned over to him, kissed along his jaw to the corner of his mouth. “Any other sore spots that need attention before I start on your back?” Before he could answer she kissed him languidly and exquisitely gentle.
Revna McKenzie
He chuckled and said “Sore, no. But I can think of a spot or two that could use attention… but of course that’d defeat the purpose of relaxing.” as he rolled over got comfortable.
Mike McKenzie
After he got comfortable, Revna leaned down and nibbled his ear. “Oh I’ll get to those spots, husband. I promise. We just don’t have time right now.” Warm oil was drizzled along his back. Then her hands smoothed it across his shoulders and down either side of his spine before beginning to work on the knots that he carried just below his shoulder blades and where his neck met his back.
As she moved down his back she started to sing. It was one Mike had heard plenty of times before, but the cadence was a steady match for the rhythm of her hands. She took her time and half an hour later or so she pulled the sheet up to cover him and then stretched out next to him on her back. She turned her head and moved over just enough to kiss his cheek. “I love you, Mike.”
