Ana appraised Kristina, looking her up and down. “In most places you would be correct. OED is not most places and the Hyrushi government is not most governments. In this case, you’ll be directly assisting me and the Communications Director. You’ll be responsible for helping craft the colony’s image to its own citizens and the Federation at large. This is a training position. If you manage it, you may make it fully onto the staff. You will be responsible for many of the things you said, beyond which you’ll be expected to have ideas. And good ones.”

-Chief of Staff

Had Kristina hoped to one day work in the Tower in her own right? Absolutely. Did she expect it so soon? Not at all. Kristina had accepted that as an intern, she’d be stuck in a corner somewhere mostly doing minor tasks, running errands and generally trying to keep out of trouble while she absorbed everything going on around her. She hadn’t expected an opportunity to actually be a part of the team, intern of not. It was hard to keep the excitement out of her eyes. “I look forward to the challenge,” she said. “I will say that I’ve been following the press conferences closely and reading all the press releases. My impression thus far is that the Executive is very keen on transparency wherever possible. They also don’t take crap from anyone, hence the Statement to the Federation. Ballsy, that. It was rather impressive, actually.”

Ana liked how quickly Kristina was catching on. “Transparency wherever the Governor wants it. He’s very private and plays things very close to the vest. By the time anything leaves this building, there’s a plan for it. As for taking crap… yeah you’re pretty much right there. Executive doesn’t handle political games well. There’s a very low tolerance for that kind of thinking around here, especially on the higher floors.”

-Chief of Staff

Cosgrove nodded. “Good, it’s often a waste of time and energy anyway. Not to mention a pain in the ass for the rest of us.” She’d witness enough of those types of games that Kristina had little appetite for them.

She leaned in, meeting Caputo’s gaze. This was an interview, and while internships were generally low stakes, this one was not. Nor did she assume she was the only one in the running. And yet, for some inexplicable reason she didn’t care. “So… when do I start?” she said, with an ever so tiny smirk.
