Tyrellia- Finding Peace

Posted April 4, 2019, 12:42 p.m. by Civilian Halai Cosgrove (Head of Science and Terraforming) (Lindsay B)

OOC: So this is going to be a standalone wrap up for Halai. This is the easiest way for me to tie up loose ends with her and still leave things open for future writing. Thank you for participating in her story over the years.
IC:
When they arrived finally at the Government Building, Halai had the strangest sensation come over her, and for once not only did she not know what it was but her korsiolo was silent. Silence was not entirely uncommon, but later on that inexplicable seed of instinct that her initial experience with the Clerics of Ashein had revealed in her had been ever-present. So much so that she was accustomed to the pings and flares within her daily. To suddenly have silent was strange at best.

Entering the building, Halai and her companions were immediately given clearance after having a brief security check. Their weapons were surrendered and would be returned upon their departure.

Up on the sixth floor of the cozily decorated building, Halai navigated her way towards the office of her friend and former love, Dowann Castinne, the Deputy Councillor for External Affairs. Knocking on his office door, his deep voice granted her entrance. There was nothing that would prepare her for what she’d find inside. Or rather, who.

Sitting on the sofa gazing out of the window was none other than her missing half-sister Kristina Cosgrove who looked healthy and relaxed. She looked over at her shocked sister and smiled softly. “Hey Halai, about time you made it here,” she teased.

Mouth agape, Halai struggled to find words. Instead, she acted, closing the distance between them and throwing herself onto the sofa and into a deep embrace. The tears of relief were inevitable.

Halai knew that Christina was here on Tyrellia and that she was safe- they had established that early on. To see that she was not only okay, but also feel a deep sense of peace within the previously directionless young woman was rather astonishing.

Questions. So many questions!

“They’re waiting for you,” Kristina said softly. “Alone. You know why. You’ll be safe. Just as I have been.”

Halai had been ready to hunt down the clerics and fight to free her sister. It wouldn’t be necessary. Maybe it never had been at all. “But… what about you?”

Kristina smiled and leaned to the side, grinning at Michael, and Valkris and Akem. “Well, at least one of them is going back to the colony and they owe a return trip. You’re not going,” she said knowingly, “so I might as well go and deliver your resignation letter myself to prove I’m okay. Besides I think I’ve freaked out Mom and Dad enough. And I better set the record straight so they don’t blame you for any of it. This was about you, but it was my choice to help, even if it was initially coercion.”

She was so confused! “I… I just…” Halai sighed.

Kristina reached out and touched Halai’s cheek. Instantly her korsiolo flared. “I know. It’ll be okay. It was always going to be okay. But Fate awaits. It’s been waiting for a long time and they need you. They all need you.”

Halai knew that her sister was referring to her mother’s people. For the moment, the hows and whys didn’t matter. All she knew was that she was once again on the right path.

Or perhaps she always had been.
