A few minutes after the arrival of the Klingons a sizable luxury hovercar flew the group from the Starport to the Commercial District to a neighborhood colloquially known as the Karlson Block. This was due to the fact that most of the Buildings in this area were owned by the illustrious businessman and older brother of the Police Commissioner, Johann Karlson. The Hover Limo stopped outside an eloquent looking glass building with an impressive front. In a semi-circle outside were several flags form different Planets and organizations within the Federation. Now hanging next to the flag of Oed V was the flag of House Juuv. When the vehicle stopped and the doors opened standing outside was the Detective Chief Inspector Pangolin, his short partner and the two escort Police Officers who were getting off their hoverbikes. “If you’ll follow me” Pangolin said with the same polite smile.

DCI Pangolin

K’letn nodded stiffly and the rest of the entourage fell in behind her and Lord Dan’tuk and they followed Pangolin into the Hotel, nodded slightly in appreciation of the House banner so prominently displayed. Lord Dan’tuk spoke first as they entered. “We require food and drink after our long journey. I trust that is available?”

House Juuv

The group entered a great hall of a lobby. On the right side was the main check-in whilst on the left, there was a large waiting area. In front of them was a grand staircase curving up on either side and under it was a large door leading down another grand hallway. The design was a mixture of Earth Human and early Andorian architecture creating a warm and friendly looking hotel.

Pangolin turned to answer but his voice was interrupted by a man standing across the great hall. He stood far from the group so it was a wonder how he heard that comment “Oh yes indeed, milord” A tall thin man with a kind smile was walking towards the group. Pangolin suppressed a grin as he took a step back, allowing the newcomer to take charge. The man was an elderly human in his late sixties dressed in a rather expensive looking suit “My name is Jóhann Karlson, I am the owner of this establishment and your host.” He gestured the group to follow him down the middle corridor “You will be hosted in our executive lounge, a buffet style dinner has been prepared. I had my chefs whip up a three-parter, a federation platter, a Klingon platter and the Oedvian special” He led them across the hallway to an intricately designed double wooden door.

The door opened revealing a large room with glass windows looking out at a rather attractive looking garden. The room itself was split into two parts, the lounge area with several sofas and armchairs on a lowered level facing the view and on the main level a conference table with close to two dozen seats. On the wall to their left was a long buffet table filled with foods from various Federation Races on the closest end. In the middle of the table where several local delicacies and on the farthest end was the Klingon Food. At least three different types of Gagh, a plate of Gladst and a whole roasted Targ. Surprisingly all of the food was fresh and apparently not replicated. “I have a wide selection of Beverages, both Klingon and Federation available.” Johann said with a smile “You and you people can order whatever fits your fancy.”

Johann Karlson.

K’letn nodded slightly in tacit approval and the delegation made their way into the ‘executive lounge’. The Klingons then descended upon the buffet like locusts, nearly stripping the long tables clear in less than an hour. Drink ran freely (but not quite enough to inhibit their thinking), and soon the delegates leaned back and belched in satisfaction.

Whilst the group started eating Pangolin received a preplanned comm signal and moved out of the lounge. When outside he started the hotels jamming signal and flipped open the ancient communicator [O]”Tagh”[C] He spoke the simple Klingon phrase before closing the device and handing it to one of the Deputies standing outside “Keep this safe for me” He said with a wink “And let the boss know he can make his dramatic entry soon” He said before entering once more

The doors to the lounge slid open and a female Vulcan, the museum curator, walked in. Nodding at Karlson and Pangolin, she introduced herself and took a seat nearest the Oed V representatives. Setting a PaDD on the table in front of her, she tapped a few commands. Karlson and Pangolin received a silent notification of the receipt of a text-based communication a scant few seconds later. It read “The hammer is free of the mineral, seemingly of it’s own accord. Scans are being performed now.”

Lord Dan’tuk spoke up. “Now that we have been properly satisfied, shall we discuss the matter of the relic in question? I wish to have this settled and done with. To that end, here is our position. House Juuv is the rightful owner of the piece. It was allowed to be held and put on display with the conditions that it would be kept in its original state. This has not happened. The museum violated the agreement. We are taking the relic back before it can be damaged further.” There was a pause and he shot a quick and subversive glance at K’letn and the added hastily “And we do not recognize any other claims of right of possession.

Dan’tuk, House Juuv

The secondary door closest to the large table swished open and another, larger man, entered. He shared similarities with their skinny host. He walked to the end of the table giving the group a look “Apologies for my late appearance, I was held up by an unexpected Cabinet meeting” He said before sitting down at the head of the table. Pangolin Stood up “Police Commissioner Joseph Karlson” He introduced his boss before handing the large man two PaDDs. “This is Lord Dan’tuk of house Juuv and that is K’letn also of House Juuv” He told the Commissioner.

Joseph took the PaDD’s and gave them a quick read over, taking less than a minute to get caught up through the transcript he gave the two lead Klingons a look, first at the Lord then at the Klingon woman “Whilst I do understand your position I hope you’ll understand our, we are bound by Federation law and there has been a claim made to your piece. A claim I have been informed we have to take seriously.” Johann moved next to his younger brother and handed him a porcelain cup of coffee which Joseph accepted with a warm smile. The cup and saucer looked comically small in his hands “Unfortunately there are some hoops to jump through before the artefact in question can be released to you” He stirred the small spoon slowly “But since you came here directly all the way from Quonos we should be able to clear it up rather quickly”

Commissioner Karlson

K’letn slammed a fist on the table causing all the dishes to jump a bit as she leapt to her feet. “Hoops?! You hold a relic of House Juuv and you have the audacity to speak of hoops?! You have no right - ” and the gauntlet-ed hand of Lord Dan’tuk grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back to her seat. He then looked at the Commissioner. “My apologies for the outburst, Commissioner. The young… they do not have the patience to see the reality of how things may have to be done.” he said calmly. “Now, then. This claim. Who is it from?” he asked innocently… but there was a glint in his eye that seemed to indicate he was waiting for confirmation, not information.

House Juuv

The woman’s outburst was only met with a look of mild amusement from the Police Chief. “No offence taken, such passion is to be admired” Turning his eyes to the Klingon lord he answered with a smile. “Three Brothers introducing themselves as the Sons of the House of Duroc and Emissaries of some religious icon, Kvaar’ton I believe.” Joseph spoke softly, pausing only for a moment to sip from his cup.

“Blasphemy!” growled K’letn, but remained quiet otherwise. Lord Dan’tuk said to Karlson “These individuals are known to us. Terrorists. Murderers. Thieves. Beings of no honor and no House. I can assure you, the High Council would look favorably upon anyone who removed those insects from the galaxy.”

“Now normally these claims would simply be turned over to the proper authorities, In this case, the Klingon Government. However, this artefact of yours seemed to resonate with one of those brothers in a manner we don’t quite understand. As far as I know, it is not due to any technology we know of.” He hit a few buttons in front of him and a holographic image of the Klingon Hammer surrounded by the rock appeared “No physical contact has been made with the object in question, in case you were wondering.”

Commissioner Karlson

The Curator slid a PaDD to Karlson. “Surveillance of the relic when it… well… moved, Commissioner.” and she then looked at Lord Dan’tuk. “Our museum has abided by all the rules and stipulations set within the agreement between our facility and your most noble House, My Lord. I can assure you that the Commissioner is quite correct when he said no contact has been made with the relic. Although… it now sits free of the mineral it was encased in. We are scanning both object and mineral now.”

The old Klingon looked at Karlson and said “I wish to see the relic. Take me there. Now.”

House Juuv

“I’ve already taken you there. I assumed you wouldn’t want your time wasted so I took the liberty of Transporting to relic here.” He lifted a hand “All precautions were taken in transporting it so as not to damage it” He gave his older brother a nod. The thin man disappeared for a moment and returned followed by two Uniformed Police Officers transporting the Relic in its original museum casing standing on a hoverboard. Johann eyed the younger woman “In the Federation we have laws regarding… Pest control. I trust that those laws will be respected by all parties involved” He continued in his grandfatherly manner some found endearing. Although he doubted she would.

Commissioner Karlson

K’letn glowered at Karlson, but did not speak. As the hover board moved in, Lord Dan’tuk stood slowly and moved to the side of the case. He peered through the glass.

Now leaning against the glass, the handle of the now-visible maul lookd to be made of a jet black metal. The head was massive; with a large flat head on one side and a wicked hook opposite. The hook was fashioned to look like, or perhaps even was, a gigantic tooth. Emblazoned on the side of the head was a symbol. Anyone who had dealt personally with the self-proclaimed Brothers of House Duroc would recognize it immediately. It was identical to the necklaces they wore, and the tattoo that at least one had: An Ox-like skull, long horns on either side, one of which was broken. The symbol of Kvaar’ton The Builder. Now the question was how did the brothers come to know of a symbol that was unseen for millennia. A symbol that did not appear in any known history of the Klingon race. A symbol that even the most technologically advanced scanners could detect through the crystallized mineral until that mineral broke just a few days prior.

Lord Dan’tuk looked at the maul and his jaw clenched, as did both hands into fists. His pule rate was visible in his neck as his arteries responded to some unknown stress. Through clenched teeth, his voice was calm however. “We will take possession now, and return to Q’onoS. I’m sure you have everything you need for your studies of the old mining tool.”

House Juuv

There was no answer for almost a minute as the Police Commissioner calmly raised his cup of tea and took a very slow silent sip. After satisfying his thirst and emptying his cup he lowered the saucer down to the table where it was promptly refilled. After the waiter moved away Joseph finally spoke, giving them the same calm and grandfatherly smile as before “Normally I would have no issue with this but I’m afraid like I mentioned earlier it’s a little bit more complicated than that” He grabbed the saucer and cup once more “You see there has been another claim on the artefact. under most circumstances, it would simply be ruled in favour of its obvious owner. But such is not the case is it?”

He studied the Klingon lord with great care “With the arrival of those brothers the legitimacy of your claim on the object is shaken. I’m sure you’ll wish to clear up any potential problems regarding it before taking it away.” He took another sip, albeit a shorter one this time. “Even if just to avoid any legal problems with our customs”

Commissioner Karlson

Those petaQ are criminals and murderers! Yet you protect them?! You give them credibility?! You have no idea what you are talking about!” yelled K’letn, again slamming her fist on the table, this time sending more than a few plates and glasses crashing. For his part, Lord Dan’tuk gritted his teeth and said “I agree with my associate, Commissioner. By giving these… monsters… any kind of credibility you only strengthen their delusions. Delusions that have caused the deaths of many innocent people at the hands of these insane marauders. I will ask one last time for the return of House Juuv’s property. If you do not comply, I will be forced to investigate… other avenues… of retrieving the relic. Avenues that do not involve asking you. Perhaps your Governor would be more open to reason? Or perhaps my associates and I should… discuss… the matter with the pieces of excrement you so steadily lend your support to? Privately, of course.”

Dan’tuk, House Juuv

Joseph shrugged casually “I doubt the Governor could give you a different answer, this is a matter of law” He smiled once more “And in regards to those… individuals you speak of, you are of course free to discuss anything with them. This is a free world” He took a moment to finish his second cup of tea before continuing “My Lord, this is a simple matter, easily rectified. All I require from you is a call to your homeworld, have your government send a certificate of new ownership in regards to the object and it can be returned to you before the end of this business day.” He turned his gaze to the angry woman “In the Federation, we believe in innocence until guilt is proven and these PetaQ you speak of have been no rowdier than the average Klingon and we’ve received no extradition orders or warnings from the Empire” He continued in his cordial and polite manner “Now I am curious, according to my investigators these Brothers claim to be the rightful rulers of your lands by the grace of some non-existent god. Normally I’d dismiss claims such as that as fantasy and internal politics but they did seem to find whatever it was they were looking for with the artifact. What do you make of all this?” He said to the two Klingons

Commissioner Karlson

OOC: Bumping to not lose it. I’ll respond tomorrow.

At that instant, the old communicator in Pangolin’s pocket beeped once, twice, and then a third time.

Not two minutes later, a somewhat ashen faced steward came in and rushed up to Pangolin’s side and whispered very quietly “Inspector. There are two very large and very angry looking Klingons outside. They said you are expecting them?”

Urg, Son of House Duroc

Pangolin gave his boss a queer look before standing up, excusing himself and moving outside the door. Smiling politely at the two Klingons “Gentlemen, good huntings I presume?” he asked innocently.

DCI Pangolin

Urg dropped the wet canvas bag to the floor with a loud ‘THUNK’ followed by a much softer but much more disturbing ‘squish‘ and said “Threat is neutralized. And here - ” and he handed the Inspector a PaDD, “- is the orders for our murders and, failing that, the destruction of the Oed V docks via the bomb they had housed on their ship. Oh, and we now know why the relic is so important. But that I will save until I have my hands on the relic itself.”

The PaDD, containing the stripped comm logs from House Juuv and Lord Dan’tuk to their agents and pictures of the bomb housed in the cargo bay of the Juuv ship, were on the device; as well as a redacted document from the Klingon High Council that seemed to indicate the destruction of the Sons of House Duroc should be done without it being traced back to the Klingon government, and that the official stance wass one of non-involvement.

Urg kicked the bag slightly and said “And these are the party favors for the Juuv dogs and their master.”

Urg’tohn, Son of House Duroc

Pangolin looked at the bag then up at the Klingon then back down at the bag “Huh” He took the offered PaDD, reading it briefly before sliding it in his pocket. He then looked at the squishy bag “Well how ‘bout that, I didn’t think that would actually work” He said with mild amusement “Wait out here for a moment” He opened the communicator, turning off the speaker but leaving the mic active “I think you’ll enjoy a more dramatic entrance” He smiled before turning around “Give the Chief a moment to talk before giving our guests their gifts” He said before entering the room again.

Inside Joseph had been discussing his own distaste for Bloodwine made between 2360 and 2370 but stopped when Pangolin handed him the PaDD. For a moment the Chief of Police pretended to read the contents before dropping the device on the table and looking the Klingon lord directly in the eyes. Just before he opened his mouth several holographic images appeared showing the files within the PaDD. With a Stern look and equally as stern a voice the man started “What the hell is this?” His voice although stern and rough wasn’t raised “You thought that you could come here, assassinate our guests and if that fails you were just going to murder an entire colony” He leaned down and placed his massive hands on the table “Did you leave your honour at home or were you simply born without it” His Klingonese was spoken without any foreign accent “You know I thought those brothers mad for suggesting that you would come here ready to kill our citizens. Well I guess I owe those gentlemen an apology, what do you think?” He asked, returning to his second language.

Commissioner Karlson

K’letn’s eyes went wide and her teeth ground together. “How did you…? You had no right to board our vessel! It is sovereign Klingon territory!” she growled. Lord Dan’tuk glared at Karlson and then at Pangolin. “You have no idea what you have done, Commissioner.” he sneered and his hand moved to his waist, but froze as the door to the room burst open and Urg’tohn and K’vorth burst into the room. Urg walked up to the table and glared at the Klingons seated there. “Don’t bother calling your attack dogs, coward. They are already here.” and in one smooth motion flung the now open bag onto the table. Klingon and Naussican heads, severed at the base ofthe neck and with tongues hanging out, rolled out of the bag and across the table towards K’letn, Dan’tuk, and their aides. Shocked, the Klingons rose to their feet, hands going to their weapons. “Just don’t.” barked Urg, his matched disruptors in his hands and pointed at the assembled House Juuv delegates. “It is only because we respect the Commissioner and the Inspector you still draw breath. Make a move, fiends, and mine and my brother will be the last faces you see.” The four Klingons of House Juuv looked form one brother to the other and back again, calculating their odds. They didn’t move. Urg spat on the table in front of them. “See, Commissioner? Cowards. The lot of them.”

Urg’tohn, Son of House Duroc

K’vorth bared his teeth in a wide, evil looking grin at the comment and his single eye flashed dangerously. He stood with one hand on the hilt of his Kut’luch dagger, almost casually. Urg may have had his pistols drawn, but K’vorths knife play was also a well known fact among the Juuv.

“It’s a pity your words are not as sharp as my blade,” he said to the seated Juuv warriors. “If they were, you may have had a chance when you came to find us.”

K’vorth, Son of House of Duroc
