OOC: I know this is an older piece of property, from days most here probably haven’t seen. But I’m reusing it, temporarily. If you look in the Oed Brochure, you can see a brief description of it. Pretty basic. Its a lounge where all sorts of mischief have the possibility to take place. You typically wouldn’t find many officials here, unless it was for some form of entertainment that they enjoyed. Not to say they can’t show up, but you may want to consider a reason for them showing up, besides “Hey this looks interesting.” :P

Anyone and all are welcome to join, either with a character they are playing or a made up NE. This takes place at the beginning of LACUNA.

IC: It hadn’t taken long for Tetul Nadan to find the lounge he had been told about by a former colleague. “Check the place out when you get there, its pretty epic!” were the words Tetul had last heard from him. They had parted ways when he left for Oed, but he understood the man’s interest in the place now.

As a new dancer made her way to the stage, Tetul went to the bar and ordered a light drink. He wasn’t here to get drunk. No, he was here to get to know the people. Unfortunately for him, people were attracted to a stand offish man with at least mildly good looks. His short dark hair was nothing overtly new or unusual. However, his vibrant green eyes made him stand out. It was all the fault of genetics, so he wasn’t about to complain about it. He stayed out of sight, but within sight others. He didn’t stare, no. He was a man of observation. And it was there he remained sipping on his drink in thought.

-Tetul Udan

bump

An unusual group entered the Fire & Ice Lounge. Led by a tall thin human at least in his mid-sixties, he wore an expensive looking bespoke suit and carried himself like a man of means. His entourage was a short stocky Andorian man in his twenties and a Tall athletic Orion Woman somewhere between the two men in age. The Andorian wore clothes typical of a young man going out on the town, fashionable and tight fitting. The Orion was more conservative in her clothing, choosing a simple jacket and dark pants. They looked around the room with interest before being led to a private table. The leader stayed between the others and talked at them like a teacher would to his pupils. “You see this is the sort of diverse entertainment we’re missing at Twilight, whilst we have dancers and music and drinks they have entertainment,” He said with a smile on his face. The younger man seemed enamoured by the dancer on the stage “Charming for sure, especially lacking your Paranoia” The Woman said as she scanned the room “Although your brand of Paranoia does give a better sense of security than this place” She spoke firmly but not without a hint of humour. The man laughed at her comment, perhaps a bit louder than was to be expected.

A moment later a waiter brought them drinks, a simple opaque glass for the Orion, a light blue daiquiri for the young man and a dark liquid for the leader. Then three tall glasses and a bottle of what was presumably champagne of some sorts. A single pop! later all glasses were full and the group clinked their glasses together and said an unintelligible cheer.

The Visitors Three

Not long after their arrival, a younger looking Orion woman showed up dressed to the point of showing little skin, but plenty of curves. She sat down at the bar to order a drink. She merely sat there, not interacting much with anyone. She eyed the entertainment and then her beverage. Was she waiting for someone? It was anyone’s guess.

-Vashki

The CIO couldn’t risk being seen too much, but he was building up a noteworthy book of contacts. A man named Lawrence Collier entered the Fire & Ice lounge. With a criminal record as long as a person could imagine and actively wanted by the OED civilian police, he didn’t have much room to argue with Nicholas.
}Don’t screw this up.]
{I’ve been an informant before, I’ll keep a low profile]
Looking like a beleaguered man in need of something stronger than synthehol, he sat down at the bar, a few seats away from the Orion, ordered a drink and quickly typed.
{I count four. Three in a group, one alone.]
}Anything out of place?]
{The three seem to be celebrating. Drinks and champagne. Loner is either waiting for someone or wants to be left alone.]
}Watch for new entrants.]

-Lawrence Collier

It was at this time a well dressed Ferengi came in alone looking around. Trying to not look like he was looking for possible Associates but was looking and eyeing up people in the Lounge. He went to a booth near the far wall so he could see anyone that walked in and about 3/4 of the Lounge. He was near the restrooms as well. He picked up a drink menu and began looking.

Ferengi, but which one?

{Ferengi. At least upper middle class. Picked a vantage point booth. Sized everyone up when he came in.]
}Name? Any sort of ID?]
{Nothing. Civilian clothes, hasn’t talked to anyone.]
}Probably not what you’re watching for. But he’s liable to watch everyone and know too much.]
{Get rid of him?]
}Not yet.]
Lawrence took a sip of his drink. He was growing uncomfortable with being Nicholas’ pawn.

-Lawrence Collier

Now that the noise of the group of three had died down a little and the older man had placed on a pair of spectacles he became more recognizable. Johann Karlson, businessman and older brother of the Police Commissioner. The older man was recognized mostly as a name, not a face but there were some of the staff that whispered his name in surprise. He looked across the room, staring for a moment the Ferengi and smiled in recognition and continued his scan until he noticed the Orion woman and looked at her for a moment out of curiosity then his eyes turned to Lawrence Collier. His inquisitive eyes stopped and stared through the man with no hint of recognition or any reaction at all as if he stared straight through him. Then a moment later reaction to the music and his surroundings returned and he moved his eyes passed the man as if nothing had happend. He laughed at something the young man said and took a sip from his drink.

Johann Karlson and Company

Lawrence tried not to let on that he knew Karlson had been staring.
{I might’ve been made.]
}Who?]
{I heard a name. Johann Karlson.]
}PD Comissioner’s brother.]
{Looked like he recognised the Ferengi.]
}Relax. You’re not going to jail tonight. Keep your eyes open]

In the CIO’s office, Nicholas pulled up everything he could find on Johann Karlson.

-Lawrence Collier/Nicholas James

The publicly available files On Johann Karlson simply stated that he was a businessman, owner of several establishments on Oed and the owner of the Hekla Corporation, an extremely large multi-faceted Corporation based out of the New Scandinavia system with Headquarters all across the Federation. It dealt in dilithium minging, the manufacturing of technology for the Federation and had several open Contracts with Starfleet. He had been its owner for nearly 40 years and there were several publications written about him in that time but in the past decade or so he had faded from the public eye, allowing Hekla to control itself more or less. He’d been based in Oed for at least the past year. Among the properties on the Colony were a Hotel, a Pub, a Night club, an import/exports shipping company and several small businesses.

Starfleet intelligence had a small dossier about him, mostly related to his Contracts supplying Starfleet supplies, materials and even at one point Weapons R&D during the Dominion War. He’d been given thorough background checks due to his younger Brothers military service. The only thing they revealed was a youth travelling the Stars and getting into trouble before becoming a successful businessman. He was noted for having business dealings with most of the other major powers in the Quadrant such as the Klingons, Ferengi, Cardassians and other smaller powers before he stopped taking an active role in his company.

He did have a notation connecting him to various missions Joseph Karlson conducted as a bounty hunter Post Dominion War, hunting war criminals although it was surmised that he simply operated as pilot and financier of said missions that led within and without the Federation.

Between 2386 and 2389 he was assigned on the now Decommissioned USS Aztec as Barkeep, the same ship as his Nephew, a year later he resurfaced on Oed V as his brother became Police Chief. All in all, he seemed to simply be an old man that enjoyed spending time with family. At least on Paper.

OOC: I’ll send you my ideas on what Section 31 has on him when I finish writing it tonight.

Tetul Udan, meanwhile, continued sitting from his vantage point. He sipped on a beverage and appeared to be watching the entertainment. Everyone seemed to be watching others or waiting. So little going on in a place like this. Who would make the first move?

-Tetul Udan

It was at that moment, that a lone Vulcan entered taking a seat at the bar as well, not far from Vashki. He appeared engrossed in the menu of beverages for the moment. Odd to find a Vulcan in a place like this, that was for sure. What was his story?

-Unknown Vulcan

{Vulcan just came in. Ferengi is eyeing the place like it’s his job.]
}Maybe it is. Get me a name and I’ll find out.]
Lawrence stood up and took his drink to a back booth, intentionally tripping over the leg of the Ferengi’s table. “Oh! Excuse me. Lost in my own thoughts. Next round is on me.”

-Lawrence Collier

The Ferengi smiled and thinking to himself just how predictable humans are. Playing the role he was trained for. “That is ok good sir. Accidents happen and as is my custom, I will not turn down anything free. Double bourbon is what I was drinking. Please have a seat. How is your toe?”

Ferengi customer

“Lawrence Collier. I’m fine.” He motioned for a waiter to come over. “Double bourbon and a single malt.” The waiter nodded and went to retrieve the drinks. “Well. You know my name, it’s only fair trade I know yours.”

-Lawrence Collier

“Thank you for the drink Lawrence Collier. The only difference is that I didn’t ask you for your name. You gave it to me for free and of your own free will. I hope you are not as free with other information? My name however, will cost you.”

Ferengi customer

“59th rule of acquisition. Free advice is seldom cheap. Just a… friendly reminder. What’s your price?”

-Lawrence Collier

The Ferengi genuinely smiled. “Very true! Well I think you have earned my name Lawrence Collier. I am Daimon Verk of the FA Lithium. I am here to see what I can and report back. To whom? Will, that will actually cost you. Let us not play around and pretend Lawrence Collier. We are both professionals and you are doing exactly what I am doing. ” He tilted his head in mock curiosity. “

Daimon Verk

“I’ll propose a system of barter. You ask a question and make an offer of a piece of information of suitable value. I’ll ask who do you work for? In exchange I’ll offer up identifying a quality business partner in this room.”

-Lawrence Collier

“I like that idea. And it better be worth it. We are looking for others means of income. As you well know that income could mean anything to a Ferengi. Latinum, information, trade, goods, people. But in this case we are actually wanting two things. Latinum and information. We want our clawed paws in a bunch of things around here. So there is my question, go with yours only if you can pay?”

Daimon Verk

“Ok. See the party of three over there? In the middle is Johann Karlson. Owner of the Hekla Corporation. Dilithium mining. Buying out every business they can. He’s been here for about a year. Maybe you recognised him, maybe you didn’t, either way, here’s where your leverage comes in. In two parts. His brother is the Civilian PD Commissioner. And Johann has been double dipping in civilian business and Starfleet contracts. So there it is. Giant business, owner lives where his brother can make the dirty secrets go away.”

“Now. I’ll put-“ Lawrence pulled out his mini PaDD “his current contracts, all of them, up in exchange for why OED V? There are whole colonies full of rich people you could be ripping off as we speak, what’s so interesting about OED V?”

-Lawrence Collier

Verk smiled very widely. “I see.” He said strong his chin. Then he frowned when he heard the question from Lawrence. He pushed the PaDD back to Lawrence. “Mr. Collier. I can not accept this kind of payment for a question that you all ready know the answer to unless there is another reason that you want me to have this list?”

“Oed V is the crossroads of this sector. Every main road and dust trail as you all put it comes and goes through this area. It will be way more beneficial to be here then bleeding rich people as you said. ”

He held up his hand and closed his eyes. “I know this goes against what you think Ferengi are like but I represent Daimon Ress Ferl’lak. He got to where he is today by breaking the mold and doing things unconventional. He has taught us to be ruthless and yet not take things just to take them. He is actually one of the most honest Ferengi there are. And yes, there is actually such a thing. “

“Now if you are still inclined to either giving me that information or to see Mr. Johann Karlson squirm when we undermine his businesses, legally, or both. I can give you either information of equal value or give you something very rare. A favor, good for anything you ask for anytime you ask of it. I do mean for anything. ” He smiled and took his drink when the waiter finally came back with it and took a sip.

Daimon Verk

Bad deal. For yourself. You just told me your life story and sold me your weak point. The CIO had been very careful in selecting a grifter to be his spy. Lawrence Collier was a professional liar and thief. But he didn’t need to lie to Ferengi. His top priorities were profit and self-preservation. He could have made a home for himself on Ferenginar. “Information for information.” He sat back comfortably, then held up his mini PaDD. “I’ll send all the files to you upon receipt of payment.”

-Lawrence Collier

“Then name your price Mr. Collier.”

Verk

It was at this time that a woman arrived into the room. Standing taller than most of the other humans there, she cut an imposing figure with her piercing blue eyes and solid posture. Although there was a limp in her step, that did not keep her from easily crossing the room to a booth with a bunch of drunken men sitting there. There was a moment as the she leaned forward and whispered something into one of patron’s ear. As she did so, his face grew redder and redder before he stood up and took a hefty swing at her.

Having already clipped her cane to her side, the woman leaned out of the way before grabbing the man’s head and using the momentum of his movement to slam it into the table. Despite all this violence however, the wait staff did not react negatively, having been informed of such a thing by Ekaterina’s contractor (the man’s wife, although only Ekaterina knew the woman’s reasoning for hiring her). As he slumped to the ground, the other men at the table quickly made a beeline for the exit. With some members of the wait staff picking up the man’s unconscious body to move to his wife’s waiting vehicle, Ekaterina’s job was finished, deciding to take a seat at the now cleared table and taking a drink of a flask she pulled from her coat.

Ekaterina Artemovich (Merc)

Lawrence typed fast.
{Hitwoman. Tall. Limp, compensating with a cane.]
}Ekaterina. Things just got complicated.]
{What’s the plan?]
}I’m en route.]
He put his PaDD down and confidently said to Verk “It’s handled. Back to business. Does Damion Ress Fer’lak deal in the new dome construction project? Scientists and engineers just got shipped in to work on it. I need to know everything about those people and what they brought with them.”

Nicholas entered a few minutes later. He was wearing civilian clothes under a black trench coat. He walked directly to Ekaterina’s table and sat down opposite her.

-Lawrence Collier/Nicholas James

Verk was impressed. “She could stroke my lobes anytime. ” Coming out of his trance. “Yes. He is part of the dome project. I am the one the flew them here per the Daimon-Ress orders. If I give you that information, then I will get the information you offered and our transaction is complete and I will not owe you anything?”

Daimon Verk

Lawrence nodded. “That’s it. Transaction concluded, we’re even as soon as I have my accurate information.”

-Lawrence Collier

Verk nodded and pulled out his PaDD and transferred the personnel manifest of the travelers. “There. Everything I know of them. If you want to do business again you know how to find me.” After he got his information he got up and began to walk out.

If she was surprised at Nicholas’s approach Ekaterina did not show it. Instead she just took another swig of her flask before looking into its reflective surface. “You know things are getting interesting when two of the most dangerous people on the planet are sitting at the same table.”

Ekaterina Artemovich (Merc)

Verk’s ears perked up at the mention of two of the most dangerous people on the planet . His walk slowed and he stopped to bend over and pretend to fix his shoes to listen for more information and to turn slightly to get a better look at the two to report on later.

Daimon Verk

Noticing Verk in the reflection of her flask, Ekaterinburg continued before her companion could speak, “After all, all the people around us would kill for our looks.” She very obviously waggled her eyes at Nicholas while subtly turning a fork on the table to point at the ferengi. “We risk a fist fight every time we approach a person with a jealous significant other. I know that I’ve been kicked out of a fair share of bars for the fights I’ve started.”

Ekaterina Artemovich (Merc)

A message appeared on Nicholas’ mini PaDD from Lawrence.
}Daimon Verk
Nicholas stared down at the Ferengi. “Daimon Verk, If you would take your intelligence gathering elsewhere, I’m sure the rest of the patronage won’t notice.” He leaned down closer. “While I will be planning where to dispose of you so that you are never found. Dead men make no profit.”

-Nicholas James

Daimon Verk laughed out loud so everyone could hear. “Oh! That is precious! Do you have your own comedy act? But I will amuse you this time as I am tired. I will see you both around. ” He winked at them both and left still laughing.

Daimon Verk

“If there is anything in this universe that I truly cannot stand, it’s people. If only he knew.” He sent a message to Daimon-Ress Fer’lak.
}Verk sold information about your company’s dealings while he was assigned to be assessing the crowd.]
“Now. Back to business. Professional killer. In my jurisdiction. I take it your current contract was just carried out. I don’t care who or why. There’s something you can help me with. And I can and will pay for these services.”

-Nicholas James, Section 31

“Interesting. I have to say that this is one of the more interesting meetings that lead to an offer.” Ekaterina leaned slightly forward. “But I need to know a few details about the job before I can commit to anything such as if there would be civilian casualties and such if I went through with it. A lady does have to have some morals after all.”

Ekaterina Artemovich (Merc)
