Governor Dawkins and Fleet Captain Watt walked the streets of Oed V until the reach the Government building.“Governor Gavroche Dawkins and Fleet Captain Russell Watt here to see Lt Governor Parker Xavier,” Gavroche said to someone on duty outside the office, “is he in and able to see us?”
“Do you need me here, Fleet Captain Watt, or can I see my staff and ex Governor Halloway?” Gavoche asked his companion.
“You should see the Lt Governor before you attend to your other duties, Gavroche,” Russell replied softly, “you two should start off on the right foot.”
Gavroche nodded, “as you think best, Fleet Captain.”
- Gov and Fleet Captain
Like any good SF officer running a large operation Xavier already knew that the new Governor and the FC were on their way up. As the yeoman on duty beeped his door and stepped in letting the door slide closed behind her.
“Sir Fleet Captain Watt andincoming Governor Gavroche are here to see you.” She said in the usual SF professional manner.
“See them in Yeoman.” He answered and got up from his desk and walked to the other side to greet them.
Xavier Lt Gov
The doors swished open and the two men in question entered. The Fleet Captain was average height and build, the new Governor was below average in terms of height and build. It was clear that the Fleet Captain was considerably older than the new Governor. Fleet Captain Watt motioned to Gavroche and Parker.
Russell spoke formally, “Captain Parker Xavier, please meet the new Governor, Gavroche Dawkins. Gavroche Dawkins, this is Captain Parker Xavier, the Lieutenant Governor and also captain of the USS Centurion.”
“Thank you Fleet Captain Russell Watt,” Gavroche said just as formally, if the Fleet Captain wanted formality, he could dish it out with the best of them, “I’m very pleased to meet you, Lieutenant Governor, I am certain that wih your experience and my … shortness, we’ll do great things together. Thank you for all you’ve done for Oed V over the years, how long has it been since you arrived here? And what number Governor am I? Do you poison them or something?”
Russell rolled his eyes at the commentary by his young protege. He was beginning to regret recommending him for this post.

Xavier smiled politely.
“It’s been a few governors rotate through. No poison needed other than the job. We are happy to receive you and I look forward to working with you.” He said as he shook the man’s hand.
“Fleet Captain.” He said as he came to attention.
Xavier
“That’s good to hear,” Gavroche replied, “I err … I think the Fleet Captain wants to talk shop with you, I’ll leave you two to it and see what trouble I can get into outside.”
Russell watched as Gavroche left the office, “he’s an interesting one, you’ll probably need to spend a long time polishing him up,” Russell looked at Parker with an apologetic smile, “I was part of a team that was dealing with troubling situations a few years back. One of the places was Fagin Prime and featured a nasty fellow called Sykes Thernardier who used Gavroche and plenty of others like him for his brand of governance. I was able to rescue Gavroche, and a number of others, and as Gavroche didn’t have family, and he became rather attached to me, I agreed to look after him. His mind is like a steel trap, fast and deadly, and as you hear, his tongue is just as sharp and deadly. He needs confidence and a chance to show his true mettle and a strong hand. I hope you’ll be able to do that for him.”
Russell paused thoughtfully, before straightening himself, “Now, onto Starfleet matters. Listening posts in the area are picking up chatter from an unknown source, it is believed it could be the Vren once more flexing their muscles once again. They had been silent for a long time and we had hoped they had focused their attention elsewhere. No such luck, however. The second domed city and all seemed to have stirred them into action. I have been tasked to look into it. You are still the lead Starfleet Office with regards to Oed V matters, I won’t be ursuping your position as Captain of the Centurion or anything to do with your structures in place already, I’ll just be telling the Vren to stop the sabre rattling and not to try to blow up anything here. My ship will be docked here as well, and you should be pleased to know I’ve been able to get your runabouts, shuttles and other small craft updated. They’ll be coming progressively in coming months”
“I will try my best with the new Governor. As usurping my power you may have the Lt. Governor duties. I think you will give them back relatively quickly.” Xavier said dutifully with a smile. He was not really wanting to babysit another Governor. Especially since the last was the best and he would sorely miss his presence.
Russell smiled at that point and held up a hand, “though you’re restricted to the Centurian. I was almost laughed out of the room when I asked for a Mythology class ship and then a decommissioned Nimitz for Oed V. Both were deemed to powerful and in excess of our needs here.”

“The Centurion does fine Sir. We find that recon missions do more than a battle cruiser sometimes and the Centurion is good for that. Plus it carries one mean payload.” He replied.
“Will you take quarters on the planet, the Port or your ship?” He asked.
Xavier Lt. Gov
“My ship,” Russell replied, “I’ve gotten used to it and any thought of giving those quarters up for quarters on either the planet or the port are not some I entertain for long, captain. And you’re right about the Centurian, Captain, it packs a hefty whack. Besides, my presence on the planet would be a distraction for yourself and Gavroche.”
“Tell me, any interest at all in the science vavancies? You’d think a place like this would see people falling over themselves to push the boundaries of science.”
