The idea that it was a crewman had struck Oberon. What hadn’t crossed her mind, was it was someone she knew. She wasn’t overly friendly with the botanist. But she had known the crewman well enough to mourn his passing. Into the nacelle… she didn’t like where this was going. Something told her dinner with the XO wasn’t going to happen tonight. She had invited him to her quarters to make them dinner. But if things were this chaotic now, she had the inclination that it wouldn’t let up before dinner.

Lt JG Oberon
CoS

Pretha’s comm badge chirped with a message from the bridge.

=^=Lt. Oberon, the is the XO. I want a security detail to meet me at Ens. Gully’s cabin on deck 7. Room 708.=^=

Odinson (XO)

Pretha nodded, =^= Yes, Sir.... Pretha to security team 2, meet the XO at Gully’s cabin… seven tac seven oh eight. =^= She glanced back at the CO and the small crowd around her. By now, other crewmen had started to arrive. Frowning slightly, she pushed thru everyone and grabbed the two closest NEs. “You two… one there,” she pointed to the spot two doors down from their current location, “and you there,” she lightly pushed the other one the opposite direction. “Push everyone back. No one else comes thru here, understand?” Her words were stern with an added edge that disobedience would not be kindly looked upon.

=/\=Good call, Cmdr. I am currently at the site where the body was found. I will keep you informed. You do the same.=/\=

—Thorne, CO

OOC: Okay, technical question before I post. Aren’t there cameras all over the ship? In ST episodes, they are always calling up replays of corridors and such to find things? So, I need to know if Thorne can ask for the vids to be reviewed?

D…

OOC: Okay, I never received an answer to my question above. Is the ship rigged for video everywhere? If so, we should just be able to watch it and find out what happened.

=^=Affirmative, Captain. Do we have an ID on the victim as of yet?=^=
Odinson (XO)

Sural called in to Hillchurch =^= Ensign Hillchurch. Remain on the scene and assist security as is needed. Gather what information you can from there and from medical to report back. =^=

=^= Affirmative, sir, =^= he replied. =^= Is there anything more on this side? The Commander was asking for a ID on the victim =^=

=^= Our most recent look at the decryption has it that Crewman Gilly was both the transporter operator and the victim. Given that Mr Gilly was dead at the time that was a substantial feat of necro-multitasking. =^=

Hillchurch paused. Was that Vulcan humor? =^= Er, Yes, sir =^= he replied. =^= That has been passed on =^=

Hillchurch/Sural

Shirazi looked around at those gathered. “That isn’t possible. So the first thing that comes to mind is that someone wanted Gully out of the way in order to assume his identity.”

“Ensign Gully, right,” Collin remarked to himself. It would be much quicker to compare the DNA sample he had with a known person than to run it through the entire Olympic medical database.

In fact, he could do it with his tricorder. He simply had to download the Ensign’s file from the ship’s computer. He did this with the wall panel in the hall.

“I should be able to confirm a match with Gully in a moment,” he said to those gathered.

Harding, CMO

“I’m betting you will find that the real Gully was the victim, not the perpetrator. Speaking of which…” She tapped her badge. =/\=Computer, where is Ensign Gully located right now?=/\= If there was another body pretending to be him, the computer would be able to find him.

It was a disconcerting thought, to think that one might be murdered and were it not for Oberon’s stumbling upon the scene, an impostor could walk around the ship as you with no one the wiser.

With only essential personnel now in the immediate area, Pretha had an idea. “I wonder,” she murmured and got down on her knees once more. With a small light from her emergency pouch, she examined the panel, then the immediate area inside the crawl space. If clear, she would proceed slowly forward into the space, scanning all the while for evidence of something else that may help them.

Lt JG Pretha Oberon
CoS

Collin nearly proffered a ‘be careful’ before clamping his mouth shut. Oberon was the Chief of Security after all. She knew what she was doing and hardly needed this old doctor to give needless advice. Instead he turned back to his tricorder. It was processing, but he expected the results of his DNA comparison any moment.

Hillchurch timidly moved forward, walking as though on eggshells, afraid that he might step on something important - or, even worse, suddenly get beamed out himself to who knows where. Were there two of him about? That might prove to be a benefit if there were. If he was tired his doppelgänger could always go to the British Tea Tasting Emporium on Tuesday nights. While the highlight of his social calendar, sometimes it just doesn’t fit well with his schedule.

He peered in after Pretha. “Do you see anything, Lt?” Winston asked. He wasn’t sure what to expect .. between a nasty blood stain to a starving two headed Targ. For the latter he would be pleased that the security chief was between him and it to protect him. Or provide for an appetizer.
- Hillchurch, Eng

Pretha smiled at the timid voice trying to sound brave behind her. “Nothing that will jump out and bite, Churchill, I assure you.” She tried to keep the snicker from her voice. As she looked about she tried to see if there was any evidence of what had been here, or shoved the body here, that the beam out might have missed.

Pretha

Harding, CMO

Stepping over next to Collin, “Doctor, can you confirm the blood found here belongs to Ensign Gully?”

“Not yet, but should be able to any moment now,” Collin frowned at his slowly processing tricorder. (GM?)

Nothing further could be found within the Jefferies tube. The site gulzar bloodstain from where the body had lain the only sign of foul play.

-GM

=^= Sural to the XO and Mr Hillchurch. Further investigation shows that the suspect did a poor attempt at covering up his work in Transporter Room 3. Moreover, cross comparisons show that Ensign Gilly was in his quarters at the time of transport. =^= A pause. =^= Perhaps there may be further corrobative evidence where you are to assist in filling in this mystery. =^=

Hillchurch looked to those around him =^= I’ll pass that on, Chief =^= he said, though knew that this was broadcast to those around him already.
- Sural

The Captain’s gaze took in everyone in the small group. “Alright, I want to hear everyone’s ideas. We are looking at a murder here, so I’m willing to entertain even the very outlandish. First of all, I think the Gully who is still present on the ship should be tested to see if he is the REAL Gully. Once we have that answer, it will help determine what direction to continue the investigation in. Secondly, could the poor attempt at covering up their work in the transporter room actually be a diversion to lead us down the wrong path?”

—Thorne, CO

“It would make sense. It would be pretty clever to divert our attention off the Olympic, while the true perpetrator accomplished his goals here. But what could those be? If I were trying to undermine the mission of the Olympic or gain high level Starfleet secrets, it wouldn’t do much to take over a junior officer. Gully’s clearance is minimal at best. Is it possible we’ve only stumbled upon one victim here? We weren’t supposed to find the body here.”

Harding, CMO

Shirazi nodded. “That’s a frightening thought though. One murderer aboard is plenty. I hate to think there might be more. She reached up and brushed a wayward hair out of her eyes beneath the glasses. “It could still be just one infiltrator, but they could have prior knowledge of command codes.” Whatever the case, the Olympic was in serious trouble until they sorted out the situation.

“Lt Oberon, I want armed security teams patrolling all decks, along with those you’ve already ordered to specialized areas. Doctor Harding, begin your tests on the Ens Gully in Cmdr D’Vash’s custody. We need some concrete answers.”
