From Sick Bay the group of five moved to the nearest turbolift. He was not going to make an verbal order until they reached the deck in question lest the computer consider their intrusion to be hostile and lock them out. It may already have happened; the Terran concept of ‘Big Brother’ had considerably evolved over the centuries. Today it was nothing to consider one’s every move to be logged or tracked or flagged - until one might be threatened by it.

“Deck 31,” he said as they entered the lift and the doors closed. “In an emergency such as we are in,” he began, “the deflector dish is something that is critical to a vessel. It was something that should be put onto one’s ‘list’ of critical areas to cover in the event of a ship wide alert. That is why we are going there now.” His tone suggested that he was intimating a ‘stretch of the truth’. The storage rooms were their destination, however he still wanted to put the computer at ease to their journey.

Winston curled up his face in a question and was about to speak when one of the security NE’s gave him a nudge followed by a finger to his lips to ‘stay quiet’.

Oliver had never seen a Vulcan try to lie to a computer before, and it was something of a surreal experience. Still, with all the social grace that the universe had gifted him, Oliver attempted to play along, “I’ve uh… Never worked on the deflector dish of a real starship before… Uh… Sir.” He tried to communicate on the sly, just as his superior had done, “Anything we should… watch out for?”

The turbolift would descended to deck 30. From there it would not budge further downward by any command. The screen on the lift wall list up with a “CODE BLACK” override screen as the turbolift rose another 3 decks and stopped with the doors shwishing open. A very confused looking Crewman looked at the armed officers and just put his hand in the air, “I think I’ll just catch the next one.”

This had not been a complete surprise to him. In fact Sural was inwardly pleased by this. He didn’t know precisely whether it was deck 31 or the next. The fact that they were not allowed onto this deck told him that logically, their place of interest was there. “We will take the stairs then,” he said. He had little doubt that they would have barriers in place. However, they would be more physical or electronic barriers rather than attempting to circumvent a rogue computer system. As they moved along the corridor, he tapped his badge. =^= Sural to bridge. Unable to achieve direct access to the deflector dish deck. The message stated ‘Code Black’. We are currently on Deck 27. =^=

=^=Acknowledged, Lt. Stand by.=^=

Sural considered the desk. The secondary docking port was there and it extended to the deck below. There were junction ladders between them which they could access from inside the docking port. Barring being allowed access they could break through but cutting the lock, forcing the door and taking the ladder down. There was some ability to connect from the docking port through a tube to the shuttle bay which again expanded over two decks that would bring them to their target deck. That was the potential plan. They would have to see how many challenges lay between here and there.

OOC: Aren’t we on deck 30? Or did we go back up to 27?
OOC: I read it that the lift went to 30 then rose three decks. GM will clarify if I read that wrong.
IC:
Oliver sighed and continued to follow Sural. This was getting wild, and he didn’t quite know what to make of it. Still, they were going to pass through the shuttle bay, which by a chance of fate was his territory now, so maybe that would rub off some good luck.

Sural continued down the corridor to their destination, however his pace slowed when he received the reply from the XO. Speculation was that he was attempting to further access the computer. He estimated only a 22% chance of success there. Still, they came to the doors to the secondary docking port. There were no additional security protocols for entering this location as it was an open area for crew.

He logically assumed that the doors would slide open at his approach, though logic was not operating well here. He slowed his approach so that if the doors did not open he would not walk into them.

OOC: Indeed. A horrendous week for even trying to post .. but back. Awaiting our good GM .. does Sural get through the doors?
IC:

In the moment before reaching the doors, but within the span of the electronic detection for the automatic door sensors, Sural stopped. “Ensign Pierce, tell me. Are the shuttle computers linked to the mainframe of the mother vessel or are they segregated?” A thought had formed in his mind of at least trying to fathom the errant code. They were close to the shuttle bays and if they were barred from the deck by means of one way, a transporter from a shuttle may get them down to their target deck. They would have to start up the shuttle in question in isolation mode so that there was no computer interface that would be normal between a shuttle or runabout and the mother ship. That would be for routine diagnostics such as computer and communications links and an ‘inquiry’ of a general ‘health’ state of the shuttle done by the ship’s computer. Any such link might be a way to have the shuttle taken over, though.

OOC: I apologize for the long delay. I have found out that I will be losing my job shortly. They are only holding me long enough to find my replacement. Between dealing with a bit of depression due to the news I have been losing my energy to post. The doors would be locked with mag locks. Shuttle computers act isolated from the main computer unless command codes authorized the linkage from the main computer. However, in it’s current state? Flip a coin, lol.
OOC: That totally would throw a person off. No issues on a delay. They are running layoffs here and nobody knows what their status is. Ugh. .. Gene

OOC: Sorry to hear that. I’ve had experience with something similar somewhat recently, so I know how bad that can be. Hope you’ll be doing better soon -Fred

IC: The area the team was in darkened a bit. Imperceptible at first, then a slow darkening. Almost as if power was being drained or lessened for some reason. A young man rounded the corner in the teams direction before his eyes went wide with shock. His uniform rather revealing in the fact he only had on a short vest with a tight undershirt. His pants tight against his toned legs with a golden sash around his waist. A sliver of movement so fast as his reaction to pull a dagger from under the sash and threw it at the team while he ducked behind the corner.

The doors did not open. It was not an unexpected action. Computer defensive AI could be annoyingly efficient. He turned, his eyes noting the dimming of the lights. It reminded him of sunset on Vulcan when the sun was behind rare clouds. Turning, Sural was computing options for getting through the doors. “Secur .. ” he began to say but halted as he observed the young man. “Intriguing,” he managed to say as a brow rose. The ‘uniform’ was distinctly non-issue and reminiscent of the period of ‘space opera romance’ than anything practical.

He saw the glint of steel and the quick reaction from the man. Evidently he was well practiced in this art. “Down!” he shouted as he pushed Pierce in one direction while he went in the other, hoping to avoid the thrown dagger. At the same time he hoped that security would react on training and get down.

(however it turns) …

“After him. Carefully. Phasers on stun. Ensign Pierce, attempt to jury rig the doors to release their lock.” It was not lost on Sural that he threw a dagger and did not shoot them - even to stun.

=^= Sural to Bridge. We have encountered … an intruder. Human. Dressed in antiquated garb that enhances the physique. We are in pursuit. =^=

Being pushed by a Vulcan isn’t something Oliver had ever experienced before. Even with all the adrenaline from the imminent death-by-knife, being flung into a wall by a man with three times the strength of a normal human knocked the wind out of him. As he scrambled to his feet and made sure he still had his tool box, he managed to blurt out, “Locks! Door! Yes, sir!”

Oliver knelt by the door and began to think of how to force the door open. He popped the panel open beside the door so he could access the manual controls. “Let’s see,” He said to said aloud to himself as he poked around the internal componants, “You are a magnetic lock, so if I reverse the magnetic polarity of one of the doors, they ought to be repelled… So… Eenie, meenie, miney… Left.” Oliver equipped himself with the proper tools and set about trying to reverse the polarity of the left door to repel the right one.

Oliver Pierce, who is very happy to be able to use the “reverse the polarity” trope in his very first sim
