In the moment before reaching the doors, but within the span of the electronic detection for the automatic door sensors, Sural stopped. “Ensign Pierce, tell me. Are the shuttle computers linked to the mainframe of the mother vessel or are they segregated?” A thought had formed in his mind of at least trying to fathom the errant code. They were close to the shuttle bays and if they were barred from the deck by means of one way, a transporter from a shuttle may get them down to their target deck. They would have to start up the shuttle in question in isolation mode so that there was no computer interface that would be normal between a shuttle or runabout and the mother ship. That would be for routine diagnostics such as computer and communications links and an ‘inquiry’ of a general ‘health’ state of the shuttle done by the ship’s computer. Any such link might be a way to have the shuttle taken over, though.

OOC: I apologize for the long delay. I have found out that I will be losing my job shortly. They are only holding me long enough to find my replacement. Between dealing with a bit of depression due to the news I have been losing my energy to post. The doors would be locked with mag locks. Shuttle computers act isolated from the main computer unless command codes authorized the linkage from the main computer. However, in it’s current state? Flip a coin, lol.
OOC: That totally would throw a person off. No issues on a delay. They are running layoffs here and nobody knows what their status is. Ugh. .. Gene

OOC: Sorry to hear that. I’ve had experience with something similar somewhat recently, so I know how bad that can be. Hope you’ll be doing better soon -Fred

IC: The area the team was in darkened a bit. Imperceptible at first, then a slow darkening. Almost as if power was being drained or lessened for some reason. A young man rounded the corner in the teams direction before his eyes went wide with shock. His uniform rather revealing in the fact he only had on a short vest with a tight undershirt. His pants tight against his toned legs with a golden sash around his waist. A sliver of movement so fast as his reaction to pull a dagger from under the sash and threw it at the team while he ducked behind the corner.

The doors did not open. It was not an unexpected action. Computer defensive AI could be annoyingly efficient. He turned, his eyes noting the dimming of the lights. It reminded him of sunset on Vulcan when the sun was behind rare clouds. Turning, Sural was computing options for getting through the doors. “Secur .. ” he began to say but halted as he observed the young man. “Intriguing,” he managed to say as a brow rose. The ‘uniform’ was distinctly non-issue and reminiscent of the period of ‘space opera romance’ than anything practical.

He saw the glint of steel and the quick reaction from the man. Evidently he was well practiced in this art. “Down!” he shouted as he pushed Pierce in one direction while he went in the other, hoping to avoid the thrown dagger. At the same time he hoped that security would react on training and get down.

(however it turns) …

“After him. Carefully. Phasers on stun. Ensign Pierce, attempt to jury rig the doors to release their lock.” It was not lost on Sural that he threw a dagger and did not shoot them - even to stun.

=^= Sural to Bridge. We have encountered … an intruder. Human. Dressed in antiquated garb that enhances the physique. We are in pursuit. =^=

Being pushed by a Vulcan isn’t something Oliver had ever experienced before. Even with all the adrenaline from the imminent death-by-knife, being flung into a wall by a man with three times the strength of a normal human knocked the wind out of him. As he scrambled to his feet and made sure he still had his tool box, he managed to blurt out, “Locks! Door! Yes, sir!”

Oliver knelt by the door and began to think of how to force the door open. He popped the panel open beside the door so he could access the manual controls. “Let’s see,” He said to said aloud to himself as he poked around the internal componants, “You are a magnetic lock, so if I reverse the magnetic polarity of one of the doors, they ought to be repelled… So… Eenie, meenie, miney… Left.” Oliver equipped himself with the proper tools and set about trying to reverse the polarity of the left door to repel the right one.

Oliver Pierce, who is very happy to be able to use the “reverse the polarity” trope in his very first sim

OOC: Love it!

Sural let security take the lead. They were the ones with the tactical experience and training in relation to shipboard ‘maneuvers’. They were not marine soldiers used to a battlefield. This was theirs and the corridor to cabin style of fighting was their wheelhouse. While they were three to one now, there was nothing to say it might be twenty to three around the next corridor. What he knew was that there were intruders on board and the computer was not just aware but complicit with them. ‘They’ were the intruders, not the man they were pursuing. In the midst of this thought the XO replied back …

The XO’s voice replied to Sural’s call. =^=Proceed with caution, Sural. it looks like your going to be on your own with the people you’ve got.=^= He left the channel open to Sural could hear his next order.

Sural considered that reply to have been 88.4% expected at this point.

“Computer!! This is Cmdr. D’vash Odinson of the Imperial Starship Olympic. From this moment on, I am assuming command of this ship. Captain Thorne is unfit for duty and is to be arrested and taken to the brig for. . . .interrogation and will be dealt with accordingly.”

The next was not expected. A brow rose. Imperial? Mutiny? As Sural had attempted to conduct some subtle deception with the computer, Sural could only surmise that the commander was doing the same. With more information than he had. Imperial? Unfortunately he had no grounds for relating to what the commander was saying. Yet.

=^=I am appointing Lt. Oberon as my second in command until she has proven herself to be a hindrance to my command. Lt. Sural is now third in command.=^=

Odinson (XO)

Again, an intriguing choice of words. A memory niggled at his thoughts. Such terms were unfamiliar yet somewhere in some instruction or conversation he had heard this before. Right now, however, the memory was not coming clear and he had other thoughts occurring. Such as mind on task against an assailant who had just tried to injure one of them.

=^= Acknowledged .. Captain =^= Sural replied.

OOC: D’oh! Forgot part 2 ..
IC:

=^= Sural to Crawford. Mr Crawford, can you give me on my tricorder real time thermal analysis readings for Deck 27? =^= He hoped that Crawford would pick up on the thought that what he was looking for was people movement. Just so that three against one didn’t turn out to be twenty to three.

=^= Uh, Roger that, Chief. =^= Crawford wiped his eyes and blinked at the screen. Deck 27. Thermal. What was he on about? Was there some kind of leak? Were they looking to start one? Were they looking .. Reno tapped up a schematic of Deck 27 and then overlaid that with a thermal diagnostic. Did that work? Could he do that much? He looked at the tabletop display and hoped that he would be soon seeing thermal readings.

OOC: Basic functions are available, just nothing that controls ships movement, shielding, or weapons.

IC: The man they were chasing rounded another corner and ducked into a Jefferies tube. The sash snagged on the edge of it before ripping as he slid down the tube toward the ladder. The man fired a small phaser back down the tube, striking an NE in the chest and vaporizing him. His scream of pain cut silent as he died. A smile crept across the intruders face as he fired again at the tube entrance. “Do not follow me Federation,” his voice steady and solid. “Not if you value your lives.”

-GM

Sural was momentarily stunned. He had never seen anyone be vaporized before him and that was a shock. The voice brought him back to the now. “You know this cannot end well,” Sural replied. He gripped his phaser in hand. At the same time he heard phaser fire from behind. “Assist Ensign Pierce,” he said in a low voice to the remaining security, then continued. “How might we assist you? We can accomplish more without the start of a shipwide war.” He peeked down the tube quickly, seeing the sash. “What do you say?” As he said that, if he noted the coast ‘clear’ he would dart forward to grab the sash, hoping his Vulcan reflexes would be swifter than a concealed opponent.

Logically, this group did not stand a chance. There were a thousand aboard this vessel and even in a battle of attrition with the computer on their side they would suffer grave losses. They needed something to risk such a ‘mission’. Information was as much a weapon as a phaser. What did they need?

OOC: Did the trick work, or was Oliver unable to reverse the polarity of the door? -Fred

OOC: Sorry I forgot to post this bit.

IC: Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow caused the door to spark and begin to open. Just the slightest bit of the room beyond could be seen before phaser fire silenced the door in place as the panel on both sides of the door sparked and caught fire. A voice beyond the door yelled for the occupants to disperse before the Federation team made it through. Two more shots rang out and consoles exploded inside the room as the group inside left through another exit.

-GM

Oliver slammed his back against the wall, breathing heavily. He didn’t expect his first few days on ship to be so… eventful. He tried to calm down and eventually set about dousing the blaze on his side with fire suppressant from his tool kit, and checking to see if he could resume altering the magnetic charge of the doors. While he was doing this, he held onto his phaser, set to to stun, just in case any of the people on the other side decided not to he’d their commands and try to check out his position instead.

Oliver Pierce, Eng.

The room beyond the door had emptied by the time Oliver could get the doors open. Consoles almost identical to the Bridge of the ship had been replicated entirely to the detail minus the viewscreen. The main viewer seemed to have been placed so only the Captains’ chair and the Executive Officer could see it. Other panel types had also been added that looked to have been placed to monitor the ship and it’s occupants. Camera feeds even showed the people moving around on the Main Bridge. Other camera’s cycled through various areas of the ship, giving the full impression that they had been here for a while and were surveilling the ship’s personnel.

Down the corridor, in the Jefferies tube, the other man with a phaser didn’t speak back. He just reached around the corner and fired another 3 shots down the tube at the crew. All while laughing, he grinned as he waited for the crew to try their luck in taking him as he reached for his dagger while hidden from view.

-GM

One of the NE fired at the man they were chasing. Tapping his comm, he reached out to another of those tied up in this chase. =^= Pierce, it’s Galens. How’s it going?=^=

Galens had been with Sural and Pierce when all the world, or at least the ship, had gone sideways. He had taken off after the knife wielder as Pierce had set to opening the doors. He fired a couple more shots down the tube and growled under his breath. “Of all the things to happen on my watch. This is what I get for complaining about being bored.” He laughed once more and peered around the corner, he head closer to the floor in case the mad man wielding a knife, and a phaser set to max, decided he was a good target.
