D’vash gave her a quick silent nod of reassurance, but the frustration and concern was etched on his face. “Was there a crewmember named Katra on the roster? If there is and we can find her or him, and if it is OUR Katra, maybe we can fool the computer. Other than that, “Commander” Oberon, we need to get into that room.”

Odinson (XO)

Pretha felt the tightness in her chest ease a bit at D’Vash’s reassuring nod. Turning to the roster, she scanned down the list for Katra’s name. She wasn’t familiar with mirror universes so duplicates, dopplegangers, and Odinson’s relief at whatever he saw on the hull was lost on her. But she knew that as ‘Commander Oberon’, she had a bit more pull now with the computer than before. Waiting for the list to search for the name, she turned to the XO. “Who will go with me? I worry about risking you, Sir. If you are on the roster of voices the computer recognizes, we can’t risk you.” While part of her said it out of a desire to protect her lover, the other part of her was thinking like a CoS. He was someone who seemed to have a grasp on what was happening. And since she couldn’t very well send him and not herself, it would be her to check out the given location, while he needed to remain separate from her in case something happened. She just hoped he would realize it was the professional, not the personal, side that was trying to ask.

OOC: Hi Melissa. Have one surviving security NE down on Deck 27 heading back to where Ens Pierce is at. I’m loathe to play a NE outside my dept there but thought you might like to do that one to get a little more variety in that thread. Just a thought. If you want me to play the NE let me know but you know the security biz. <G> .. Gene

The officer at the conn looked back at the other Bridge officers, “I may be talking out of line here, but if this Gully wasn’t OUR Gully, how do we know if anyone on the Bridge hasn’t been compromised as well?”

-GM

The XO slowly turned to the conn officer before scanning the rest of the bridge crew. The man was right, there may be another mirror crewman listening to their conversation right now. So far, D’vash’s gut told him that Pretha, Collin, and Sural were the real versions of themselves. From their actions, he felt more than anyone else right now, these other three could be trusted.

“Dr. Harding, you were able to tell that Gully in Sickbay wasn’t ours. I don’t want to know how you figured it out, and I don’t want you telling anybody else. Could you run the same tests, scans, or whatever it is you did to determine if those of us on the bridge right now are, in fact, this universe’s version of themselves?”

Odinson (XO)

Collin nodded, although slowly and his gaze looked beyond the Commander, his mind mulling over the XO’s words. He’d only discovered that there were two Gully’s because one had a unique marker in his bloodwork absent in the blood drawn from his mirror self. Had their Gully not had an alien flu in his youth, there may have been no sign that the two men were not the same. There was no guarantee the bridge crew would have encountered something as unique as Gully had during their lifetime that would set them apart from an imposter. Still it was worth a try.

“I can run the same test, Commander,” he kept his uncertainty to himself, wary of any paranoia that could result.

Pretha raised an eyebrow at the man who had spoken. D’Vash had been with her since before it all happened. So he was one of the real ‘them’. She was sure of it. But then her security minded voice whispered in her mind that they had been seperated for a while. How could she be sure? The idea of any of them being ‘fakes’ or duplicates, made her skin crawl. “Doc, do me first. If someone in here is false, I don’t want to be shot because I shoot him.” She made sure her phaser was still on stun and waited for her turn. Then a thought occurred to her. “Check me, and show me the results. Then I want to scan you. If results match, you can scan the rest.” Now that the doubt had been raised, she wanted to be sure it was even for everyone.

She glanced at D’Vash who, she was sure, was probably thinking her out of her mind. The Doc had identified the fake. But again, her security mind was meant to look for the seedy underside of things. If he identified the fake, to save himself, then the results for he and her would be different. If they were the same, then, with luck, she could trust him and the rest of his readings. A small knot began to wind itself in her stomach at the thought of Odinson being a doppelganger. Making eyes and being concerned about a fake did not sit well in her gut.

Collin knew there was a medkit just behind the science station and he retrieved it.

“Okay, Commander,” he emphasized the rank with a wink. “You first.”

The man at the Conn twisted nervously, “How can we be sure this is really our Doctor and there was a way to identify a fake?!” He started to stand and mmove quickly toward the emergency phase case every Bridge had. “He could poison us all and we would never know until it’s too late!”

-GM

Collin was opening the kit when the officer at Conn began to speak. He was surprised to face such distrust. It hadn’t occurred to him that he’d be a suspect, even thought there was no reason he couldn’t be a member of the mirror universe. He moved to reassure the officer when Beid stepped in.

Beid had remained quiet until this point, taking in the situation and trying to ascertain where he could assist. As he saw the Conn officer move towards the phaser locker, Beid moved quickly and stepped in his way. “Now, now Ensign. No need for that. We can figure this out if we keep our heads.” The thought occurred to Beid as he moved that the man himself could be a replacement, so he was prepared to react with an appropriate level of force if necessary. He was not an intimidating figure, or even a greatly skilled combatant. But he knew a few tricks; an advantage of remembering a few dozen lifetimes. Besides, all he needed to do was keep that locker closed.

Beid, CSO

Collin looked to Odinson, “I can explain the test, make my methods more transparent. If you think that would put everyone’s mind at ease?”

Harding, CMO

Pretha glanced at Odinson. She shook her head in an ever so slight way. She hoped he would understand. If he gave away the upper hand they had…

She then smiled at the frantic man and slid the sleeve of her tunic top up. “I will let him test me. Then you can see I’m not poisoned. As a Commander, I have a lot of pull. Don’t you think I would be one of the ones he would want to take out if he were a duplicate?” She tried to remain calm and slowly stepped between D’Vash and the conn officer. While she was pretty sure Beid had the phaser locker covered, she wasn’t taking a chance.
