“I started my higher-degree education when I was eight. I spent three years in Galdor getting a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, then I joined Starfleet Academy. I spent three years in Starfleet Academy before I started my career in Starfleet two years ago,” Sathut explained. “The idea of being completely dedicated to a single profession, it is particularly necessary for people of my race, who do not have time within our short lifespan to try again. We have to be very sure that what we do is what we want to do…”

Sathut glanced down at his cup. “Humans have an average lifespan of one hundred and twenty years. My people are lucky if we reach sixty. I envy the longer-lived races sometimes…”

Sathut

Beid looked at the diminutive Counselor and smiled an understanding smile. “Do would not envy the longer-lived too much, my friend. Trust us, it is not everything it is ‘cracked up to be’, as the humans say.” and he looked out the window. “I often wonder what it would be like to not have to carry the memory of so many. Sometimes, we think that the blessing of the Symbiote is actually the opposite.”

Sathut smiled slightly, following Bied’s gaze and staring out the window at the stars. “It’s that one,” he commented, pointing into the distance, far across the starfield. “That’s Enris… and around it, Galdor…” He smiled again. “I’m not sure how, but I always know which way is home…”

“We all have our own lot in life, I suppose. Some carry the memory of lifetimes, others watch as time rushes by far too quickly for them to do all they wish to accomplish. It’s strange, isn’t it…?”

Sathut

Beid smiled as he looked at the indicated star. “Strange… but very beautiful, in a way. And it encourages us to see things differently, I think.” and he looked at Sathut. “But don’t you worry about time being short. We think you will be surprised at how long you are going to last.” and he tapped his temple and winked. “We tend to remember notable individuals.”

Beid, CSO

“I’m honoured,” Sathut purred slightly, dipping his head slightly. He smiled. “Shall we, perhaps, speak on some less heavy topics?” He suggested, tapping his paw on the table. “Have you any favorite books or films or holonovels?”

“Let’s.” Beid said with a nod of acknowledgement. “We are drawn to a wide range of such, actually. I love the works of many of the Vulcan writers. I find their stoicism refreshing at times. I am also an avid reader of the Klingon Sagas. Very moving.” and then he grinned and said “But do you want to know what my true ‘guilty pleasure’, as the humans say, is?” and he leaned forward and whispered conspiratorially “My favorite piece of vid is from Earh. Mid to late twentieth century. A work entitled ‘Buckaroo Bonzai: Across The Eighth Dimension’. It is incredibly humorous, but the science in it is quite fascinating. Not what one would expect of the humans at that time.”

Beid, CSO

“Hmm, I’ll have to look into it. I am quite fond of strange artifacts of history,” Sathut laughed. “I’ve listened to a few of those Klingon Operas. Personally I don’t find them very tasteful, but then again… I am a small being and loud guttural noises are not entirely in my favor. Like the human still fears the snake that ate their ancestors so long ago, the Raka fear the Gor’tag that terrorized our ancestors and forced them up into the trees for survival so many generations ago… Ah, I forget you do not know our ancient history. The Gor’tag was a long-extinct prehistoric predator which was similar to a bear in shape and size, which killed many of my prehistoric ancestors.”
