=^= Chief, Reno here. You kicked the hornet’s next and the wasps are all over. And I mean all over the ship. =^=

“Logical,” he said given what he had just read. He took his ‘PaDD’ and snapped an image of the mission parameters, labeled it ‘maintenance’ and then mailed the image up to the engineering station on the bridge. “I would suggest, Ensign, that this other universe is .. expanding their horizons.” Glancing at the monitor looking onto the bridge he wondered how invasive they were there and what he could do.

Going to the station where the parameters were listed he attempted to ‘send’ that image to the bridge main viewer. Could that be done? If so it would suggest that they had a far greater control of the ship than they had thought. =^= Sural to Bridge. Our .. visitors .. who fled from their makeshift bridge here on this deck have dispersed throughout the ship. Most notable is at least one who is in the vicinity of Deck 3 armory. I am also sending you a maintenance report that would be of interest to you. =^= If it arrives, he thought.

“Terran Emp… Wow.” Oliver let slip, before acting on his approved suggestion. Oliver shook his head, =^= Computer, =^= he called out, somewhat nervously, =^= Review progress on Priority Alpha. Who’s been replaced so far? =^=

He needed to know so he could scan for duplicate signatures more specifically on a crew member by crew member basis, but nonetheless he also began trying to get a grasp on how many duplicate signatures there were total. He attempted to get access to the internal sensors through his console and scan for any and all duplicate life signs aboard.

Oliver Pierce, Eng

Sural thought that may be a risky inquiry, however, at this moment risks needed to be taken. Where ‘did’ they believe they were at with regards to their mission. Why did they feel they needed to invade this universe? A handful of vessels could not hope to overthrow the Federation. That was not logical. There must be more ‘story’ behind this attempt. What was happening in ‘their’ universe for them to consider such an action?

Galen moved around the makeshift bridge and shook his head over and over. “So there are mirror folks out there and they are trying to take over our ship… And if they fail, we get scuttled… great…” he sighed and leaned on the wall. “So what do we do now? I can start trying to track down the duplicates, but I don’t know how to tell which is which.”

“Ensign Pierce’s inquiry may assist us provided the computer yields its results on who has been replaced,” Sural said calmly. “Trust me on this fact as an engineer, Mr Galen, it would take considerable work to ‘scuttle’ a vessel of this size that is designed for long range exploration away from potential repair ports. At least now we know their priorities. If they had a majority population on this ship they would have sought an armed takeover already. Since they have not then logically they are not yet in a position to.”

“Where are the power connections to this ‘bridge’ unit? Our objective was four decks down and here we have this bridge. To retain effective control on this vessel we require the computer. Our computer. Finding out where to restore central control back to our computer rather than the mirror universe programming will go a long way toward restoring our own command and control. If we are to continue our travel down we should not leave this unit operational to any but ourselves.”

=^=Odinson to Sural, do you have that faux bridge secured yet? Please tell me some good news.=^=

Odinson (XO)

Unfortunately Sural understood the inquiry. He had not heard his previous message because the bridge had been … tense and a brief firefight had occurred. He had seen that on the screen that was monitoring the bridge.

Galen looked to Sural. The duplicate bridge was secure, but what about the rest of the ship? “Sural, I need to know if you have this? I need to make sure the other departments are secure.” Though his voice sighed, “Though I’ll be damned if I know how to tell. I need to find where the Doc is… hope he is one of us… then see if he knows a way we can tell the duplicates apart.” He ticked the list off on his fingers as he tried to think of what to do since Oberon, the Security Chief hadn’t reached out to him. “And I need to see if the Security Chief has been compromised as well. Oh, lords… if she’s a duplicate now....” The idea didn’t sit well in the NEs stomach at all.

“Mr Galen. If you will attend to the screen here you will see that the your chief has subdued an .. incident. Logically if we were to look at this, were she an imposter she could have joined in this mutiny to take the bridge very easily by taking the time to subdue the second officer and others. Were the second officer an imposter he could have let the other wreak what havoc and taken her out as well. Given that the ship is not directly under the control of the mirror universe people we can logically assume that both the XO and the security chief are not duplicates.” He took a breath. “The only way that a mirror universe imposter can be detected would be with medical inconsistencies. Injuries recorded that were not in the files for instance. The medical staff are the most attuned to be able to tell apart from long term observation of the character of each crewman. Which, unfortunately, we do not have.”

=^= Sural to Bridge. The improvised bridge has been secured. =^= He repeated that message that was missed previously. And then added =^= =^= Our .. visitors .. who fled from their makeshift bridge here on this deck have dispersed throughout the ship. Most notable is at least one who is in the vicinity of Deck 3 armory. I am also sending you a maintenance report that would be of interest to you. =^= That maintenance report would show the ‘stages’ of occupation that was their ‘plan’.

=^=Acknowledged, Sural,=^=, came Odinson’s voice over the comm.

Galen relaxed at the report. As long as Pretha and the XO were secure, he was sure they could hold the bridge. “That’s good news. Ok… so need to find Harding, make sure he’s not compromised, then calibrate some tricorders to do the scanning.” He said it like listing cake baking ingredients. “Piece of cake!” The laugh that accompanied the words were pretty clear he was being facetious. “Well, Chief, you rank here… do I go find Harding or you need me someplace else?”

Sural glanced at the screen viewing the bridge. While he was considering scuttling this contrivance, it was proving to be useful. “I believe if we observe the bridge screen here we will see that Dr Harding is on the bridge already. I believe I had seen him there before their .. incident. We can confirm this when next we hear from the Commander.”

He knew better than to run off half cocked. He may be the security man in this room, but rank still ruled and till ‘who was who’ was figured out, he preferred more competent minds were making the decisions regarding the retaking of the ship.

He considered their situation. There were three of them. Himself, Ensign Pierce and NE Galen. That was not an effective ‘force’ to lay siege to anything, though their initial objective was Deck 31. There was still something below. Were they to depart from here to descend via the shuttle bay beyond, they would have to abandon this place. That would necessitate at least a temporary deactivation of this place. Given that the vessel was under effective ‘siege’ that was prudent. “For the moment I need you here. We need to plan to continue our descent to Deck 31. Prior to this we will need to disable this construction lest it be reoccupied.”

Galen nodded. “Ok… XO, Doc, and Security Chief. So that’s half… Who else is key to the ship that we need to secure?” His mind was going over ways to secure the place yet still allow them to abandon it to secure the ship. As he wandered around the mock bridge, he touched one console after another. Turning to Sural he frowned slightly. “Ok, so I am not a pro… the bridge isn’t what we need to preserve, it’s the information, right? If they are tapped into the systems, is there a way we can upload everything to the ‘real’ bridge where we know intergity still holds? Then we can shut down, destroy, virus..” he started throwing words out unsure if any of them would stick to the wall. “Or whatever… so they can’t just seal the door and start all over again.” He wasn’t exactly sure how it all worked, but they had to be able to do ‘something’ that didn’t require someone staying in here with a phaser on stun till it blew over.

The PADD Sural used to send the “maintenance” report beeped with a reply missive. “We’ve got a situation here people. The computer is locked out with Code Black, so their Beta priority has already been activated. We need to regain control of this ship before they activate the self-destruct. We’ve also got the issue of Mirror ‘verse doubles running around. We need options and we need them fast people.”

Odinson (XO)

Were Sural human he would have been well in a position to sigh. He had tried it once; apart from an exhalation of air it did not particularly accomplish anything. Still, in similar situations he had observed there was a 78% chance that a human would, at this point, sigh. “Unfortunately, I too am not a ‘pro’ at this. Tactically we cannot allow assets to be left for the intruders. We are dealing with a computer, albeit a sophisticated one. Perhaps we can exploit that.”

“You are correct. The information is the value of this installation and it must be stored somewhere. He gazed about. Wireless data transfer was possible, however with the kinds of data that they were talking here it was implausible. Hence the network of neural and hard lines throughout a vessel. Ensign Pierce, logically feeds from these monitors and stations must lead somewhere. If Mr Galen is correct we may be able to place a redirect device onto their data storage and feed it to the bridge. Please attempt to locate that source.”

“Mr Galen, our travel will likely take us down further to deck 31. From this area the shuttle bays are beyond. Tactically what is the best way of getting there?”

Sural considered the next idea. It was germinating in his mind however it was not forming a plan. Computers were fallible in that they operated by their programming. Perhaps the duality of the duplicates might be utilized to confuse the computer. It had been done before on the basis of appealing to the AI, such as the fledgling M5 of many decades earlier. The computer currently had very limited parameters. Logically it was not a full program as so many of the inquiries were redirected to punishment. Still, how to take advantage of it or at least tie it up in some way.
