As the team filed in, the would find a rather intense looking doctor scanning the pod. He looked back. “Lt Sural, may we open this please? From what I can tell, this man is stable, but fading. He will die in the next hour and I will not be held responsible.”

Upon visual inspection, the pod almost resembled a sarcophagus, how any human could survive was a mystery.

Sural entered with Reno at his heels, already unpacking the engineering tricorder. “Intriguing,” he murmured. How could anything like that survive near a black hole? What kept it from being pulled in?

“Nor will it be looked upon well were we to make undue haste and cause an incident that injures crew or damages the ship. “Reno, please scan the .. unit for any potential danger, radiation emissions and power supply.”
“On it chief like horns on a toad,” Reno replied, bringing the tricorder to life and making a slow circuit.
Meanwhile Sural used his tricorder to scan for a ‘door’ or way in. “Doctor, what is keeping this individual alive? Is it only, as some would say, serendipity, that brings us here at the moment of this unit’s failure?” While Sural was not a skeptic, as that would imply an emotional origin, he considered in this instance that it was not unwise to hold a doubting position - the odds of this happening were simply astronomical.

J.C had walked in seeing the unit running scans on the body “this is very interesting.....I’m unsure of how this man has kept himself alive. Let alone minimum damage from what I’m seeing on the scans. It could be a number of things keeping this man alive for this long.” He stated looking towards sural as he spoke calmly.

Lt.JG Jackson Caleb “J.C” Novak - CMO

“I am open to speculation, doctor,” Sural replied. What he was more wanting to know was how such a small thing was not swallowed by the black hole? Did it not want to swallow it? That would suggest a sentience to the anomaly, which would be anomalous itself, however if the doctor was entertaining many options of survivability, then he could entertain the same. He completed his scan and stopped to look at the results. If the unit was as old to utilize an ancient communication method, was the door in as old and simple?
- Sural

There seemed to be an air recycling system and early food replicator inside. The inner workings were hard to detect in detail while the door was closed. As was the physical state of the man inside. Though his signature remained stable.

The door seemed to open in an old fashioned manner, though it might be too heavy for a single person to lift alone. A lever could help lift it, or a team of three or four could pry it open.

D’vash had been visually inspecting the pod for any indications of its’ origins while the doctor and engineers were running scans. “If you can’t detect any hazards, gentlemen, let’s get this Robinson Crusoe out of there and get his story. That’s the best way to get some answers.

He dug his fingers into any small crevasse he could find and prepared to lift. . .

Odinson (XO)

J.C watched as he went to open it, hoping that this was not a bad idea. ” let’s hope nothing bad comes of this.” He stated, even if the scans indicted that the body was still alive, via air recycling system and food replication. “I am unsure of how long they will be alive for. Yes technically he may have an hour, but he could die any moment .....” J.C said expressing slight concern.

Sural noted that the XO was ‘in for a penny, in for a pound’ as an old Earth instructor had often said. Nodding to Reno, he said, “Let us endeavor to .. open the door,” he said. Closing his tricorder with a faint snap he hooked it on his belt and moved over opposite Odinson, figuring that would be a more logical way to leverage his weight and strength. Reno took his place next to the XO.

The metal was on the cold side of cool but that was to be expected for being in space, only now starting to be at an approachable temperature. Digging in his fingers he awaited the nods of the others. “On three,” he said calmly. “One … two … ” He only breathed out the three as each put their strength into it, straining with the effort.

Opening the pod was difficult, but upon getting the lid open, a thin, dark haired man would become visible. He was dressed in an early Starfleet uniform. He began taking deep breaths. “Where?” He wheezed. “When?”

Once the pod was open, J.C had started carefully running another set of scans to make sure the man was alright. “I’m running another scan, I want to ensure he is alright and that opening this didn’t cause some kind of damage.” He explained as he read the scans once more.

Scans would show stable vital signs, but a fragile body structure. It would seem that this man had been in this pod for an extended period. His lungs were still adjusting to the air, but he would be fine.

After taking a quick look inside after the door was parked open, Sural studied the man. He could well suspect musculature issues as well as diet, though otherwise he was far more hale than Sural expected to find. Finding some purchase the Vulcan positioned himself to assist the man in getting out. “You are on board the Starfleet vessel the USS Olympic. By the appearance of your uniform,” he paused momentarily to look for a rank insignia on the sleeves, “a century has passed.”
Sural
OOC: can never remember the year. Bad Wookiee.

D’vash as well, looked for a name tag on the newcomer’s uniform. ‘Take it easy, son. You’re among friends. I’m Cmdr. Odinson, Executive officer of the Olympic. Can you tell us who you are?”

Odinson (XO)

“Lieutenant Jacob Hanlon, serial numb- Starfleet? USS Olympic. I was on the USS Neptune. It was 2264.” Above them, the lights flickered. Probably just the power exertions of tractoring in the pod.

-Matrix

Sural noted the flickering lights. Were he a human he would have frowned. Instead, a brow rose as his attention moved from this Jacob Hanlon to the ship. Turning to Reno he said quietly, “Check on that,” before turning his attention back to the rescued man. Reno nodded and moved off to a panel by the wall.

=^= Reno to engineering. We had lights flickering here. Y’all playing with the lights up there? =^=

Sural, meanwhile, returned his attention to Jacob. “How did you come to be in this .. pod?” He followed this up by, “Do you require assistance? Food? Medical attention?” after he remembered his manners. His mother would have lectured him on the ‘order of operations’ of assisting people in need. His sister would have been .. livid.”
