Apart from the sounds of people at work, the bridge of the USS Olympic was quiet. She had seen her fill of excitement on the Romulan border, and the crew seemed ready for a quiet trip home.

Along their way, they passed an almost minute black hole. “Captain.” came a voice from ops. “I’m receiving some sort of signal. It’s a pattern. Three long bursts, three… dots, and then three more bursts. Over and over again. Sir, the truly impossible thing is where it’s coming from. Tracking the signal back leads to the centre of that black hole.”

-Matrix

Hamilcar looked up from a report that he was working on, an expression of deep thought on his face. “Three bursts, 3 dots and three bursts....where have I heard that before.” He stood up and walked over towards the Ops console.

“All Stop, keep us outside the event horizon of the black hole.” He stood by the ops officer. “Full Scans.”

-CO

“Yes sir.” Initial scans showed a black hole in its infancy. Scanning deeper however, revealed a 6.5 by 3 metre metallic construct. And one life sign contained therein.

-Matrix

“Sir, that is from Earth naval history. Morse code,” Sathut spoke up. That kind of history - the history of communication - fascinated him. “Or it could be. Three dashes, S. Three dots, O. Three dashes, S again. S O S. I believe that was the ‘help me’ hail. Save our souls. Someone is in danger.”

Sathut, CNS

“Sir, cross reference with Starfleet database would suggest that the Counselor is correct, this is a distress call.” At that moment, the ship rocked. “Sir. We appear to be caught in a tractor beam. We’re not being pulled in, the pod is using us for leverage to exit.”

-Matrix

“Confirming strength of the beam,” Sural said, moving into the conversation. While it was unlikely that the beam could damage a vessel the size of the Olympic, if it was a pinpoint tractor beam it could cause hull damage were it strong enough. “Assessing whether we can more easily pull the craft out with our tractor beam,” he continued, running a plot of beam strength alongside of determining any danger to the ship from the tractor beam. Personally he estimated that it would only be a 4.38% chance that the Olympic would sustain any damage. It was, however, prudent to check.
- Sural

Sural was correct. The tractor beam the pod was using was not powerful enough to pull the pod out of the black hole or damage the Olympic. If the Olympic we’re together assist, it was likely the pod could be removed from the black hole and brought to safe distance.

-Matrix

“Do what you can to assist them, Helm, stand by to to reverse engines to pull them out.”. Hamilcar ordered. =^=Sickbay, stand by for possible casualties=^=

-CO

=/\=Aye sir.=/\= sickbay responded. They successfully pulled the pod out of the black hole’s gravitational pull. Ops turned to Hamilcar. “Captain. I have more detailed readings on the life form inside. It’s a human male.”

-Matrix

D’vash moved to a console and began to do a search of his own. Morse code was commonly used back in Earth’s 19th through the 21st century. He began to search the database for any Earth ships from that time period, matching the vessels size and dimensions, as well as having been lost in space. Chances were slim that anything would come up, but it was worth a shot.

Odinson (XO)

D’Vash found no early earth exploratory craft that had been lost on record. This type of pod also did not fit any designs of that era.

-Matrix

=^=Engineering, can you reinforce the tractor beam to help pull the ship out?=^= Jasar asked engineering. He wanted to make sure that the beam held before he tried to pull them out, didn’t want to end up losing the ship before trying everything they could.

-CO

When engineering checked, they would be able to remove the pod without risking the Olympic’s safety.

-Matrix

Hamilcar looked at the report from engineering. “Helm, back us up, 1/4 impluse power. Lets pull that ship out nice and slow.” He ordered

-CO

“Aye sir.” Slowly, they pulled the pod free. The Comms Officer reported “Sir, new signal, audio only, but the pod does appear to be hailing us.”

-Matrix

D’vash synched the console to the message in an attempt to analyze it. “Prepare to pull it into the shuttlebay.”

Odinson (XO)

=/\=Help… please.=/\= came a weak voice. Ops reported ready to pull the craft in.

-Matrix

“Captain,” Sural said quietly, turning to face him with his hand clapped behind him. “If I may, I may be of assistance in the shuttle bay to extract the .. individual.” He had no idea of whether assistance might be required, however if there had been any warping of the vessel, even in a minor capacity, it could have caused the hatches to jam. That and to scan the small vessel for any threat to itself or the ship.
- Sural, CE

Hearing the weakness and stress in the voice coming in from the comm, D’vash opend a link to sickbay. =^=Sickbay, this is the XO. We need an emergency team in the shuttlebay. We’re bringing in a small vessel with one human life sign on board and he sounds pretty weak.”

=/\=Yes sir.=/\=

Turning in the captain’s direction, he said, “I’m dispatching a security to the bay as well, Captain.”

Odinson (XO)

“Proceed, and join Lt Sural to see to our guest.” Hamilcar stated returning to his chair. “Scan the anomaly, lets see what we can find out about it.”

-CO

“Aye, sir,” the XO replied.

Pretha had been in her office going over schedules when the shift of the ship made her frown. Tapping her comm, she hailed the bridge, =^= Oberon to bridge… what just happened?=^=

She was already pulling her phaser from her desk drawer and heading for the door as she awaited an answer. “I doubt we ran over something,” she half murmured under her breath in amusement.

Pretha Oberon
CoS

=^=We just pulled a small vessel into the shuttlebay with a weakened human life sign, Lt. That’s we know right now, but it would be prudent to dispatch a security down there, at least until we have ascertained the situation.=^=

After cutting the comm, he joined Sural and Reno in the turbolift.

Odinson (XO)

“Yes, sir,” Sural replied, heading for the lift. As he entered, he made a smooth turn and spoke out, “Shuttlebay,” before pondering. =^= Sural to Reno. Please meet me in the Shuttlebay with an engineering tricorder. Have a cutting crew on call. We are taking on a shuttle that may require work to gain entry to. =^=

Reno, feet up and cowboy hat on as he scanned the deck by deck status indicators, righted himself and replied, =^= On my way =^= then .. “Some action beyond stem bolts and status requests,” he said to the engineering tech beside him. “I left off on Deck 9. Have at it.”
- Sural and Reno

OOC: I’ll start a shuttlebay thread.

-Matrix

Hamiclar looked down at his command chair display. “What are the results of the scan?” he asked from his command chair.

-CO

What they were facing was a very small primordial black hole. By size, it was only large enough to contain the pod they had just pulled in with a metre of spare room in any direction. What was strange was that its’ gravitational influence was small.

-Matrix

“A small black hole, a meter larger than the shuttle.” Erikk read out the scans as they came through, his eyebrows furrowed and he ran the scans again. The furrowed further when the scans came back with the same results. “With a low gravitational pull,” he added eventually.

Lt. (j.g.) Erikk Mendez, CSO

“So how did a ship get stuck in a small black hole with low gravitational pull?” Hamilcar ask curiously.

-CO
