SNIP

Reno, this is Devlin. All looks good on the board. No faults. No glitches. Almost like we were still under warranty. You say the power interruption? Okay, I’m isolating the bay power in the historicals .. is that a word? .. seeing the power flow to and in the bay .. if there was a flickering of lights it should show a hiccup in the power distribution system. =^=

=^= Might have a dissection job for y’all later, seeing what makes this pod tick and how anyone could live in it for any amount of time. It’s smaller than a Texan outhouse. =^=
- Reno, Devlin and Sural

There was a pause while the status’ were checked. =^= Devlin to Reno. I got nothin here. Everything is green and you’ve not any power anomalies. Hey, maybe it’s some six headed alien with rows of teeth just sucking the energy out of the room. Or you need to change the light bulb. =^=

=^= Thanks Dev. You’re a great help there. I’ll have the chief look out for energy sucking aliens while I’m on his shoulders changing the light bulb. How many engineers does it take to do that again? =^=

Reno walked back to the chief. “Got notice back from Devlin. There was nothin on the power flow. Nothing to cause the flickering.”
Sural nodded, thinking. “Set your tricorder to monitor energy variations in the bay. It sounds like it is something external.” Reno nodded and pulled out his tricorder, setting it for a constant reading.
Sural and Reno

Reno’s tricorder would detect a fading EM disturbance. Its epicentre was the pod.

-Matrix

Reno quietly showed Sural the results. Sural’s brow rose inquisitively and he tipped his head in thought, looking at the pod and then at the readings again. “Have a quick, closer look,” he said to Reno, “without appearing to take a look.” Reno nodded, his finger coming up to tip at his non-existent cowboy hat, and moved around the pod scanning it to try to focus in on ‘where’ in the disturbance was before leaning in to get a better look and place it, or identify it. Was it part of the machinery? Or something else? And if either, then … what?
- Sural and Reno

It did not seem to be a part of the machinery. It seemed to be coming from where the occupant was laying.

-Matrix

Reno had choice words for the phenomenon, however they were not as cleansed as Sural’s may have been. Where Hanlon was laying. Where Hanlon was. He focused on the where and attempted to narrow down what this thing was. Was it mechanical? Was it living? God forbid was it the spirit of his long passed great aunt Hetty who was the most crotchety old woman he had ever known and was terrified of her as a child.

“Lt. Hanlon,” D’vash began, “do you think you’re strong enough to climb out of there? We’d like to get you to sickbay to give you a more thorough check-up. Plus, it’ll give our engineers a chance to inspect your pod more closely as well. Maybe we can find out how you manages to stay alive all this time.”

Odinson (XO)

Hanlon began to struggle his way out. The lights flickered rapidly, almost as if they were strobe lights. As Hanlon collapsed over the side of the pod, everything momentarily went dark. No sooner had the sound of Hanlon hitting the deck resounded than the lights returned. “Can… can someone… help me… stand up?”

-Matrix

“What the blazes?” Reno exclaimed as he looked up at the lights then back to his tricorder.

D’vash reached down and grabbed Hanlon under the arm and helped get him to his feet.

At the same time he looked quizzically at the engineering chief and simply asked, “Sural?”

Odinson (XO)

As Odinson inquired of Sural, Sural’s gaze went to Reno who caught that glance and tried to fathom a reply based on what he was reading.
- Sural and Reno

Hanlon struggled to his feet. “Apparently time has taken its toll.” He said, almost as if he had not noticed everything that just occurred.

Reno’s tricorder would have a history, during the time of the disturbance, of having been deactivated and restarted. The only line occupying that space read “My chains are broken.”

-Matrix

=^= Devlin to Lt Sural. I may have something =^=

Sural, awaiting Reno’s reply as he watched the Texan shake his tricorder. =^= What is it Mr Devlin? =^=

=^= Had a power surge here. Or fail. A flicker anyway, but I .. heard a voice. A … creepy voice, chief. Said ‘Free’ .. but you know, a lot creepier. =^=

Sural watched Reno checking, then shaking now his head and then peering at the tricorder. “Rebooted chief. Uhhh .. read this.” He handed the tricorder to Sural who read the message, ‘My chains are broken.’ “Fascinating,” he replied. “Commander, you may want to read this status message from Ensign Reno’s scans during the disturbance.” He passed the tricorder to him while replying to Devlin. =^= Mr Devlin. Carry on. Advise me if there is any further .. communications or issues. =^=

Reno muttered, “We can just call it Great Aunt Hettie if it needs a name.”
Sural

Pretha arrived, then, with an Ensign in tow. She had left the other Ensign in the hall to guard the door and stop any further incoming, short of called medics. She knew from experience that something like this would draw interest from more off duty personnel seeking a look at whatever had come in. She came in just as the lights came back on and a frown twisted her face as her hand rested at the ready on her phaser.

D’vash looked at the tricorder and one eyebrow shot up in a very Vulcan-like manner.

She set the other Ensign just inside the door with the same orders. Looking around, she took in the situation and who was around doing what. She had heard the XO and it was his name she called out with the others. “D’Vash… Sural… Everyone all right?”

Pretha
CoS

The XO caught Pretha’s eye and waved a brief warning to her. An indication to standby, but be ready.

“Lt. Hanlon, would you care to comment on this? Was there another entity in the pod with you?” He showed Hanlon the message.

Odinson (XO)

“Another…” Hanlon read the phrase on the tricorder screen several times. “I don’t know what it is. In the time I come from, our ship was experiencing strange phenomena as we passed through this area. I had to evacuate.”

-Matrix

“Lt. do you now what happened to the Neptune? What caused you to eject in this pod?” Things were getting stranger and stranger.

“As we came near the black hole, we experienced odd technical failures. Standard escape pod jettison function was compromised. As far as I know, the jettison system only worked once. On its test flight.”

Before going any further, D’vash decided to update the CO on the situation.

=^=Odinson to Bridge. Captain, we have a survivor extricted from the pod. He is Lt. Jacob Hanlon from the USS Neptune. Says he was on the Neptune in . . . .2264, sir.=^=

Odinson (XO)

“Do you know what happened to the ship?”

-Matrix

OOC: Fixing a boo-boo I made.

Looking at Hanlon intently, Odinson ordered, “Computer, give me reports regarding the USS Neptune, circa 2264. Correlate data with this sector and mentions of a black hole therein.”

Vel’ten walked into the bay with his med kit. “Mind if I look youI over sailor?” He said smiling.

Vel’ten CMO

Pretha nodded and stood her ground at D’Vash’s warning, but did step aside as the Doc came in. She didn’t stop him but watched the XO to see if there was anything else she needed to be looking out for. The idea of someone being here from another time was a bit unnerving, to say the least. The idea of there being an ‘other’ on board as well, was something else entirely. She rested her hand on her still holstered phaser, wanting to draw it, but unsure where to aim it.

Pretha
CoS

Hanlon nodded to Vel’ten. “Anything you need to do doctor.”

A security NE approached Pretha from behind. She spoke with a deep, inhuman voice. “You will not need your weapon Lt Oberon. Things need not become complicated.”

-Matrix

“Thank you both.” Vel’ten took out his medical tricorder and began to scan Hanlon. He looked over to the CoS. “You ok Chief? Would you line for me to scan you next?” The Vulcan said concerned.

Vel’ten CMO

While trained to remain calm in any situation, the look of startlement, then concern, wasn’t hid swift enough from the Security Chief’s features before a calm face once more was plastered across her skin. Her fingers tightened reflexively on the phaser as if fearing the one behind her would suddenly snap it from her hip. With eyes transfixed now even more firmly upon the scene before her, she addressed the voice behind her. “You say that with confidence, yet you say it from behind me. Who are you and what do you want with my crew?”

Not sure who, or what, was behind her, it took the tightening of every muscle in her body not to swing around and slam the person against the wall and demand what was going on. Her heart was racing with the possibilities of how this was going to unwind. She could only hope to keep her own calm and not let it explode out of something ‘she’ did.

Pretha
CoS

With the doctors question directed toward Pretha, D’vash turned in her direction and noticed the tenseness in her body and her speaking to security officer behind her.

Odinson (XO)

Pretha glanced at the Doc then back to D’Vash. While she spoke to the former, it was the latter that her nearly imperceptible head shake of warning was towards. “No, Doc… I’m fine for right now.” She hoped the XO would understand that while something ‘wasn’t right’… she was still trying to figure it out and didn’t want anything to happen yet that may upset that.
