Thank you both.” Vel’ten took out his medical tricorder and began to scan Hanlon. He looked over to the CoS. “You ok Chief? Would you line for me to scan you next?” The Vulcan said concerned.

Vel’ten CMO

While trained to remain calm in any situation, the look of startlement, then concern, wasn’t hid swift enough from the Security Chief’s features before a calm face once more was plastered across her skin. Her fingers tightened reflexively on the phaser as if fearing the one behind her would suddenly snap it from her hip. With eyes transfixed now even more firmly upon the scene before her, she addressed the voice behind her. “You say that with confidence, yet you say it from behind me. Who are you and what do you want with my crew?”

Not sure who, or what, was behind her, it took the tightening of every muscle in her body not to swing around and slam the person against the wall and demand what was going on. Her heart was racing with the possibilities of how this was going to unwind. She could only hope to keep her own calm and not let it explode out of something ‘she’ did.

Pretha
CoS

With the doctors question directed toward Pretha, D’vash turned in her direction and noticed the tenseness in her body and her speaking to security officer behind her.

Odinson (XO)

Pretha glanced at the Doc then back to D’Vash. While she spoke to the former, it was the latter that her nearly imperceptible head shake of warning was towards. “No, Doc… I’m fine for right now.” She hoped the XO would understand that while something ‘wasn’t right’… she was still trying to figure it out and didn’t want anything to happen yet that may upset that.

“Very well Chief. I’m here if you need me. ” He then turned towards the XO. I have completed my scans sir. The narrator of the story will tell you the results soon. I’ll be right outside if you need me since I’ll be in the way here. “

Hanlon was discovered to be a human in relatively healthy condition for the way he had been living. There was no outward evidence of time distortion or age distortion in his body.

=USS Neptune NCC-23445. Commanding Officer: Captain Leland Jefferson, Executive Officer: Commander Alan Arkman. Status: Missing In Action. The USS Neptune disappeared 12 June 2264. All hands were lost.=

From behind Pretha, cold breath carried the dark, deep voice. “Good. Do exactly as you’re told… and everyone will live. Even your precious D’Vash.”

The voice had changed, somehow, and it troubled her. Keeping a relatively blank face, she spoke softly so no one but the one behind her would hear. “What do you want from us? We can help you if there is something you need.” The muscles in her body were beginning to ache from the strain of not moving and she had to relax or risk passing out from locking her legs. While she did relax, just a little, the rate of her breathing and heart beat were still high and strained. The fact the entity had picked up on D’Vash troubled her even more. She knew they would both do their duty, regardless of their relationship. But she also knew they would both have a half heartbeat of pause before doing it.

It was that split second that she currently feared and tried to put out of her mind.

“Passage. A place to live.”

Sural was calm. How could he not be? However he was showing as much ‘concern’ as he was able as a Vulcan when considering these messages. A sentience had been released. Evidently it had been trapped in some way, or so that was Sural’s logical opinion. Without further evidence it was opinion, though logically sound. However as one professor had said at one time to him when he challenged the man for what Sural had deemed an inconsistency, he had said that “logic merely enables one to be wrong with authority”.

They were not ‘that’ far apart in the bay and the doctor was looking after the .. survivor? However he had paid attention to Lt Pretha. And, his Vulcan hearing had detected a voice that did not appear consistent with normal convention. “Were you on good terms with your Great Aunt Hettie?” Sural asked as he turned toward Pretha. “Lt, I need you to look at a scan and tell me what you think.”

Reno muttered, “About as well as two tomcats facing off on a fence.”
Sural and Reno

The security NE’s hand drifted down to her phaser. A deep, guttural growling sound came from her throat as the Vulcan got closer.

Sural had heard of ‘runaway katra’s‘ before - and of course there were the well known logs of Sargon and others. He did not miss the lowering hand. His response was that of a raised brow. “It would be illogical to express hostility to ones whose mission is to seek out life and civilizations and render aid where applicable.” He directed his gaze to the security NE and in a voice that was loud enough to gather the attention of the others.
- Sural

Pretha held her hand up gently in Sural’s direction and glanced at D’Vash before turning to face the NE occupied by the entity. “I know you seek passage and life. We want to help. But I cannot help anyone if my hands are tied. Will you let us assist the wounded first? Or if you are in need of first aid, I am happy to help you as well. We are, as Sural stated, explorers and seekers of knowledge and lifeforms. All you have to do is ask and we are happy to do what we are capable of to help you.” As she spoke, the Security Chief dropped her hands to her side and spread her palms in a sign of peace. She did, however, manage while talking, to place herself squarely in front of the NE and effectively try and block their view and line of fire from the others.

“I am sure we can make this work…”

Pretha
CoS

D’vash decided to let this play out. There were no two better people to handle this situation than Pretha and Sural. Cool heads needed to prevail in this instance. As such, he kept his distance from them, but stayed close to Hanlon.

He slowly reached out and put a hand on Hanlon’s elbow to get the man’s attention. The look on the the XO’s face was one of asking what was going on?

Odinson (XO)

Hanlon looked at D’Vash with fear in his eyes. If he knew what was happening, it scared him deeply.

“There is a desert world. Small. Uninhabited. Fly there.” Whatever entity had come, left swiftly, letting the NE fall to the ground.

Being closest, Pretha managed to catch the man before her collapsed. “Doc!” Was her out of her lips before she even lowered the NE to the floor. She glanced at D’Vash and nodded that everything was all right. She would talk to him in a moment. Right now, those in the bay were her first priority.

As others flocked to their aid, Pretha stood up and took a step back. Seeing he was in good hands, the Security Chief sidled up to the XO. “I’m not sure, but something tells me our visitor isn’t gone, merely waiting to see what we do before inhabiting another. It said there was an uninhabited desert planet nearby and we are to head there. To be honest, I’m guessing that’s what this whole thing is about.” She motioned to the shuttle and everything happening since. “My guess is ‘going home’ is this things priority and it will do what it must. I’d say if it’s not out of our way, we head that way and perhaps try and make contact again with it, under our terms, to see what brought us all to this point.”

While she didn’t cherish the thought of more crewmen being controlled, something told her it would be necessary before this had all played out. She just hoped she could be the one offered up and D’Vash and the Councilor could do the questioning so she knew it was done right.
