Vel’ten was happy to be aboard a starship again. He spent too many years planet side at the Academy training new doctors. It was time to try out his sea legs as they used to say. Pressing the chime for the Counselor’s office he ran his fingers through his thick black hair.

((unless he’s unrostered, I don’t believe we have a resident duck… I mean quack <smiles>… Meli))

Thanks. I’ll just do my other check ins then.
Travis

Umm… You do have a quack. I’ve been around for a log while!

OOC: Yay!

IC: Vel’ten put on a straight face and pressed the chime.

The door opened after a moment, and Vel’ten would see a comfortable looking office with a semi-circle couch on one side and what looked like a high-chair and a lazy-boy had been combined into one. The reason for this was soon made clear as the three-foot tall alien counselor stepped out from behind his desk to greet the CMO.

“Hello, Doctor. Good to have you here. Please, take a seat. To begin, is there anything you would like to eat or drink?”

Sathut, CNS

Vel’ten raised an eyebrow when he saw the diminutive counselor. “Hello. I would like a sweet tea please.” He said while taking a seat on the couch.

“Do you mind if I ask you a question Counselor?”

Vel’ten CMO

“I do not mind at all. Go ahead and ask away, doctor,” Sathut said with a smile as he stepped over to the nearby replicator and got it to make some sweet tea.

He came back over, handing Vel’ten the drink. Upon closer inspection, Sathut looked like someone had placed a Caitian in a shrinking machine, although when he handed the drink over the three fingers and a thumb on each hand suggested such a comparison to be inexact.

Sathut, CNS

“Thank you for the drink Counselor.” He took a sip and then asked. “What kind of being are you? I am sure you knew what my question was before I spoke it.”

Vel’ten CMO

“I assumed you would ask. I am a Raka, of the planet Galdor. My name is Sathut. My people are, in fact, normally the size I am, and yes, it has taken some adjustment to live here where everything is… so tall. Although not as much as you might assume, given the fact that my people are only one of four terrestrial sapient species native to our planet, two of which are as tall as humanoids if not taller.”

He spoke with a calm tone, anticipating as many further questions as he could.

Sathut, CNS

“Fascinating Counselor. I would like to know more about your world and it’s inhabitants but I am here for my psych exam to be cleared for duty. But I do have one more question for you. “How did you get into Starfleet. I do not recall your world as a member. Forgive me. I am very curious.”

Vel’ten CMO

“We are a member of the federation, and have been for, I would say, approximately a century. We have a small number of officers within Starfleet from our planet. Only about one hundred natives of my planet are current serving members of Starfleet. There are, specifically, about twenty Raka serving in Starfleet at the moment, as far as I am aware. And this is a conversation we can have later, if you are amenable to meeting with me in the lounge when we are both off duty and have further curiosity.”

Sathut spoke with a smile, his tone and demeanor cheerful and friendly.

Sathut, CNS

“Yes. Thank you sir. What would you like to talk about then Counselor?” The Vulcan said with a smile before taking a sip of the tea.

Vel’ten CMO

“I have always found it difficult to determine the mental health of a Vulcan. Most species use their emotional state as an indicator of mental health, but your species does not tend to do that. So. I will begin with a question. How are you, mentally? Have you been experiencing any undue stresses on your mental state recently?”

Sathut,CNS

Vel’ten looked at the counselor and raised an eyebrow in true Vulcan fashion. Then he grinned and then smiled. “I’m fine doc. I’m not the usual Vulcan. I gave up that crap long ago. I still do mind and focusing excercises but I believe acting out ones emotions instead of holding it in....nay, nay…bottling it in, is very dangerous. I’ve read that many humans that do that have big outbursts where they hurt or even kill others. I don’t want to be like that.”

“Besides. I’m Vulcan and I can’t really understand how we have music, art, poetry, dance… well maybe not dance, but playing instruments. How can we do all of these things without emotion? You need to feel it deep in you to create these things. It looks like they show nor share any joy in creating them. I would find it hard to believe that they don’t. Edgar Allen Poe could not have written what he did without emotion and on the flip side, perceiving the emotions of the people reading his works. That’s my mental stability counselor.”
