SNIP

Sural thought the planet’s descriptor was .. pleasant and not unlike Vulcan. However, an internal voice - oddly much like his sister’s - suggested whether the planet was for them or for the entity. And why a desert planet? An entity did not necessarily require the physical amenities, though … this bore more investigation. He was prepared to catch the ensign though Pretha was closer and did that. He glanced back to Reno. “Ensure that the pod is secure.”
- Sural

The pod showed no signs of being active beyond having basic power.

“Lt. Hanlon, I think it’s time to speak with Captain Jasar,” D’vash said. “Dr. Vel’ten, I’m taking our guest to sickbay. Lt. Oberon, with me. Lt. Sural, let me know if you come up with anything in regards to how to how Mr. Hanlon survived this long.

=^=Captain, I’m taking our guest to sickbay for a more thorough check-up. It would be a good idea if you and Counselor Sathut could join us.=^=

Odinson (XO)

Hanlon nodded and went along with the XO.

“Yes, Sir…” Pretha responded. As they departed, she told the NE security outside to help the guys inside with anything they needed. She then followed the XO.

Well that was that for this recent incident. Turning to Reno he raised a brow. “Mechanically is there any cryo settings in this pod to sustain him? Do you think that proximity to the singularity could have altered the space time around this pod to condense time as it were? And still without the forces tearing it apart or pulling it in?”
Reno scratched his head. “Bare minimum on this pod, chief.”
“Do a metallurgical scan for fatigue. It must show some indication it was around a black hole.”
Reno circled the pod, scanning. “Looks in pretty good condition all told. Better than if it were sitting in a Texan field for a few decades.”.
- Sural

The only evidence of age the pod displayed was its design, which was distinctly of its era, especially on the interior. What had not been previously visible with Hanlon in and around the pod was a tricorder, set up almost as a vessel’s computer.

“The pod looks like it’s been polished up for the used pod lot,” Reno said, wiping his hands on a cloth after his climb around. “But, Hanlon there did some custom work on the inside. Tricorder has been rigged to it.” He glanced at Sural who was waiting for more, a brow half raised. “Pods of that era were pretty dumb. Fire and hope someone picks you up sooner than later. Most of it is space for the person. The rest is communications, insulation and a few odds and ends. Nobody is supposed to be there long.”

Sural leaned in. “Let’s extract the tricorder. It may give us some information and perhaps logs.”

“Thought you’d never ask.” Reno again leaned into it like bending over the hood of an old vehicle and worked at extracting the tricorder.

Sural and Reno

The tricorder came loose with relative ease, not having been secured to be in place as long as it had.

Reno righted himself and dusted himself off. The brushing didn’t work so much but it made him feel better. But hey, what was an engineer if he wasn’t dirty in some way. As his old instructor had pointed out. Make noise and get dirty and everyone will think you’ve been working. What he didn’t say was how difficult that actually was to accomplish in a Starship. He looked at the tricorder, assessing its model and absently wiping at the small display on the screen before trying to bring it to life.

Sural in the meantime looked around at it before tapping his badge. =^=Sural to Engineering. Any further issues Mr Devlin? =^= As he waited for the reply his thoughts went back to the voices. ‘Free’ … ‘Chains are broken’ … it seemed improbable that he was chained with the pod but came across it. Could the singularity have been his prison? Somewhere in the event horizon and tied there in a form of ‘null time bubble’?
- Reno and Sural

While he was speaking the tell tale transporter signal sounded. Both turned about to note the appearance of yet another pod. Sural’s brow rose; Reno just whistled. Moments later Mendez came in.

The Shuttlebay doors slid open, and Mendez strode through them. For a second he almost looked lost as he glanced around, but he quickly spied the pod and walked over to it. “Captain sent me here to help investigate. What do we know so far?” as per usual, his speech was brief, though not unfriendly.

Mendez, CSO

Sgt. Janice Ryder, An enlisted crewman on duty, stepped forward to answer Mendez’s question.

“Not much sir. The pod just completed it’s transport cycle, and I has about to access it’s consoles. Would you like to take over?”

Mendez nodded his thanks, stepping up to take over Ryders good work.

Reno and Sural approached the new pod. Well, new to the bay. Reno approached it first. “I’ve worked on one of these,” he began. “Bought it at a junk yard. My old aunt wanted it to pot flowers in.” His ‘work’ on it was essentially removing the guts of it and shoveling dirt into it when he was twelve, but he’d leave that part out of the discussion - that and the fact that a small nest of bees had taken it as a home and had chased him all about the junkyard.

The new pod was an older, civilian, commercially available unit. It was silver with green highlights. There were two panels attached. The largest was at the foot of the pod. It was a display of monitored vitals of the patient inside. The smaller was on the right side and showed vitals of the pod itself. The pod seemed to have it’s own power source, but there were inputs to connect it to an external power supply. There is a view port near the head of the pod.

A few moments later, Pretha stepped into the bay and looked around. She was on full alert, her hand hovering near her phaser as she listened and looked to see who was around and what else she could hear.

“Another life sign?” Sural inquired, peering into the viewing port. This appeared to be more intact than the other. “Reno, what is the pod’s status?” The last one required a near emergency opening. This one didn’t appear to be in the same critical state, however looks could be deceiving.

Peering inside the viewport Sural would see the face of a Terran male. His hair, graying and unkempt, seemed dirty and matted. He wore a matching full beard in the same condition. His face was bruised around both eyes. His nose had been broken several times. His lips cracked and raw.

Reno, scratching at an imaginary itch where there had been a bee sting on his chin, shook himself out of that reverie. “Right. Status.” His tricorder whirred as he moved it around the pod.
Sural and Reno

The pods’ status was simply, operational. Power levels indicated that it could maintain functionality for only a few more weeks at consumption.

Pretha bit back a growl as the pod appeared, having expected it to have already been there. As the Chief Engineer moved towards it to look inside, Pretha’s voice spoke her name in both warning and query. “Sural…?”

Her hand, resting on her phaser, was ready to leap forward and lock down the bay in two heartbeats. It did cross her mind the XO wasn’t here, and it was a relief. One less thing she had to worry about.

Pretha
CoS

“Human by the look of him,” Sural replied. “It appears that he has undergone a battle prior to his coming to being in this pod and that being over an extended time.” He stepped back for her to have a look. As a security professional she would be more familiar with injuries from a fight or injuries from a ship board tragedy and a race to a pod. “Reno. Are you able to safely deactivate the cryo controls and bring him to consciousness?”
Sural

Pretha took a quick look then backed up as Sural asked about the deactivation of the cryo bed. “I think we may want to wait and do that in medical. We don’t know what stasis is doing for him. And I want to be sure it’s not a quarantine things, as well. This is too much of an ‘unknown’ for us to just crack open here.” She glanced at the others to see if they agreed. She was in charge of the safety of the ship and that meant even this stranger. If waking him up made his heart pump faster and made him bleed more, or strain his breathing, or anything else, she didn’t want to be the one responsible for it. And stars forbid there was something more serious on a contamination line!

Pretha
CoS… and a bit paranoid

Mendez ignored the background noises of his coworkers in action as he worked on seeing what information he could pull from the pods consol.
