“Great…” Kadence laughed. Just what she wanted. An artifact that she had no idea what it looked like, didn’t know if it had readings, and it reacted to certain people or things. Something told her she was getting her leg pulled, but she was going along like a good crewman. She turned on her reader to see if she had a signal she could follow.
((Will we have different threads for the different signals, or ‘split up’ but stay in this thread?))
Had she been aware of Kadence’s thoughts, she would have thought her silly. The idea that one of the artifacts might actually react to her was something the engineer was willing to find out. She was skeptic at first, when the man had come to ask her to hook up the contraption to the ship. She was supposed to be leery. It was a stranger, with strange tech and she was protecting her home. But now that she knew what she was part of, and it was all right, she was more than excited. “So let’s get started. No point in chancing losing them to someone unsuspecting… right?” She was smiling and eager as she set the containment pieces in her small shoulder held tool pouch.
Remy took a pair of the purple gloves and stuffed them into a pocket. Looking at the assembled group, he suggested, “Let us break into teams. We can cover more ground dat way. Counselor, you are wit’ me. Lt. Mado, you with Lt. LeBlanc. If stopped or questioned, we are part of a safety inspec-SHON team. Ques-SHONS?”
Kadence nodded. “Yes, Sir.” She moved around the group to stand closer to him and watched the others go off together. She wasn’t a fan of Risa. Never had been. Reilly had been kind enough to find a place she actually found lovely, but the location she was at with the Captain was one she wasn’t fond of. A slightly frown creased her face as she read the modified tricorder to see which direction they were going to be going. A sigh slipped past her lips. “Why did it have to be Risa?” She half murmured under her breath.
Acadia smiled. She could pick Mado’s brain about the artifacts and the readers. Now that she knew he wasn’t trying to sabotage her ship, she was a bit more amicable towards him. “Perfect. I’m ready when you are, Lieutenant.” She smiled to Mado and looked at her own reader to see where to head to. She’d never been to Risa and was actually a bit sad this was a mission and not a pleasure stop. Her eyes looked around to see if anything in the immediate vicinity was worth investigating before they moved on.
Mado nodded. “Let’s find an office or something, I doubt we’ll find it on a factory floor,” said Mado, “We’ll head in the opposite direction of you, sir, to cover more ground.”
A moment adter the two departed, two small wallets appeared in front of them. Inside were Federation Safety Inspector badges. Each had a name and a picture of the two. The one with Mado’s picture had the name ‘Inspector Trevor’, the other, with LeBlanc’s picture identified her as ‘Inspector Carey’.
Acadia frowned. “Inspector Carey? Huh… sound ridiculously official to me.” She tucked it into her pouch and glanced at her PaDD to see where the nearest offices were. “I think this is the best way if you want to start in the offices.” She nodded towards their right.
“It could have worse,” replied Mado. “I suppose being a safety inspector would give us plenty of access.”
A few minutes later, a deep voice called out to them.
“Excuse me, this is a restricted area. What are you doing here?” asked a muscular humanoid security guard.
Casey and Trevor she whispered to herself before turning. “Inspectors Casey and Trevor. I have to say I am impressed. We barely beamed in.” She nodded to Mado, “Only two minutes to respond. Very good indeed.” She pulled her badge to show the man as she moved a couple paces closer so he could see her identification. “We are here to do an energy sweep. Nothing invasive, I assure you.” She lifted the tricorder absently. “You could be of tremendous help though. Since we are doing a security check, I’m asking that you say nothing to anyone else. If you haven’t already called for a team, then don’t. We would like to guage how far we make it into each section before we are challenged. If I could get your name and rank, I’ll be sure to give you commendation in our report for your own, personal, quick response and challenge.”
She hoped her quick response, great smile and the fact she had kept circling him to keep him moving and off balance would be enough to get them further on without hinderance.
(ummm Inspector Smooth?)
