Kadence had told the others she would meet them in the lounge and scooted back to her room to see to her arm and uniform. It wasn’t long after that that the Counselor walked into the lounge sporting a short sleeved uniform shirt over a clean pair of slacks. Her upper left arm was wrapped in a clean white bandage. She could have gone to medical and gotten the full treatment to make the slight burn mark completely disappear. But it seemed silly to waste more time on it. Cleaning it off and covering it would suffice. Tomorrow it would be healed enough to be no more than a slight nuisance.
She came into the lounge and looked around for Fin and Mado, her hand reaching up to brush a stray strand of hair from her face where she’d missed it putting her hair back up in a neater bun once more.
Fin was already there, seated near the windows. She waived Kadence over and raised the glass of Rum in her hand. “I started without you. Something about this ship and crew makes me want to drink constantly.” Even though she smiled when she spoke, it still probably wasn’t an intelligent thing to say to a counselor.
Mado appeared, freshly dressed and showered. “Apologizes ladies, it seems I have made you wait.” Mado sat down, “What did you wish to discuss, Counselor?”
Fin looked at Mado, her brows furrowed. “Really? You don’t even want a refreshment first before getting down to some kind of business?” The CIO shook her head. Once again she replayed how she’d been assigned to the Wolverine in her head.
In a blink of an eye, Mado had appeared produced a standard Starfleet mug out of thin air, and placed it on the table. “As you can see, I already have something to drink. But would you like me to get you something?” asked Mado.
Impressed with the sleight of hand, Fin gave him a nod. “No, I’m good.” Here, she raised her glass of rum and smiled. “One really good thing about this ship is the alcohol. There seems to be no restrictions on it and we don’t have to put up with synthehol.” Looking to Kadence, she wondered if the woman would ever settle into a chair and contribute to the very innocuous conversation—so far.
Kadence took her seat and shifted a few times before finally settling in as Mado played his slight of hand. “I think a strong cup of coffee would suit me just fine.” She glanced at Fin and smiled. “As to your comment as I entered, no worries. I know the feeling well.” She laughed and nodded to the rum in the woman’s hand.
Glancing back at Mado, she shook her head. “Partially it was a way for us to just relax a moment before we start once more willy nilly taking off after more artifacts. The other reason was to discuss what we do with them. You said we don’t have the right containment fields to hold them. Yet you want us to collect them. What do you propose we do with them once we have them? We need to discuss containment and what to do with them once we have them, as well. Where are they going and will that place be ready to handle them as well?” She didn’t want to ramble, but these were things that needed to come to light. And she hadn’t heard anything from the Command Staff about these answers, so she worried about those questions. Perhaps more than some since she had actually been in close contact to one of the objects.
“We have temporary means of containment. And we have orders to pick up the correct equipment,” replied Mado, “At the current moment, it is being handled by me personally but we have anywhere from 24 hours to 72 hours before the situation may change. As for the final destination of delivery… we’re not allowed to tell you that, though the Captain has full discretion to inform you. In the mean time, once we secure the means to properly store the artifacts, once we reach a certain threshold of artifacts, we will probably ordered to deliver them to a drop off point, hand them off to other field agents or do something else if Admiral Frederic has other plans in mind.”
“How many artifacts are currently on the ship?” Although she’d worked for the Admiral before, Fin felt like she was still learning about her new position on the Wolverine. What experience she’d had with ‘the warehouse’ was unique as most people never got a chance to work with the magical/other worldly objects kept there. She pretty much felt like she was filling the shoes of the CIO on the ship by not doing much of anything. At least this meeting with Kadence and Mado was a chance to interact with more of the crew.
