The message was sent over shipwide comms at 0900. =/\= Attention, all hands. This is the XO. Mandatory meeting for everyone in Cargo Bay Bravo at 1400. Mission Briefing. All hands to report per Captain Boudreaux. Department heads ensure comms are active in your section for assigned personnel. XO out. =/\=

At 1330, Reilly walked into the bay and looked around, making sure the space was clear for the majority of the ship’s contingent.

Reilly, XO

Mikel showed up as the head for his department and avoided the XO.

Petrov CE

Mado was present as well.

GM

Fin was already leaning against a bulkhead, waiting for everyone to arrive.

—Fin

Mikel took note of who was there. He did not know the CIO well. It was best to avoid those types. They had too much information at their disposal.

Petrov CE

Cel arrived and found himself a quiet corner to watch the briefing.

-Cel

Alita slipped in and found some shadows to make friends with. She was satisfied that the bay was secure.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Lily strolled in with Duncan sipping on her cup of coffee and looking for a place to lean back and enjoy it. She never minded staff meetings and with the ship as small as it was, it reminded her of the town hall meetings back home albiet with less screaming or complaining.

Lily Locksley

Duncan lead Lily to an area that hadn’t yet been filled with random crew filing in to the CO’s Briefing, then took a sip of his own coffee and nearly choked. “Lily, do you remember if I switched on the Acoustic Inhibitor on the isolation tank for the green goo of death? I think I did.”

  • Duncan Rhodes, CSO

“You mean today or last night because we were a tad busy last night in the lab,” she winked at him before Lily choked on her coffee and looked at him wide-eyed. “Oh my god do you think that is why we are here?” Lily wasn’t sure if that was the reason but she suddenly felt on edge.

Lily Locksley CMO

“No no, it was definitely switched on last night,” leaning towards her he gave her a very subtle peck on the side of the forehead and smirked. “If it wasn’t, the entire ship would be floating debris by now in a sea of goo, it wasn’t exactly quiet in the lab last night right?” Taking another sip of coffee, he took a breath and let it out slowly. “I’m sure I did today. I cleaned the filters out, made sure the stabilization fluid was PH neutral and then sealed the tank again, then switched on the isolation field. I’m sure the Inhibitor went up as well. Ahh, if not, I guess we’ll just have another late night in the lab.”

  • Duncan Rhodes, CSO

Remy approached the railing on the second level of the bay. He looked down at the crew gathered. It looked as most of the crew was here, except those that were required to man their positions for the continued operation of the ship. He locked eyes with those that had been with him the longest: Bryson Erin-he and Remy had been friends from the Saracen; Mikel Petrov-former Chief Engineer of the Vanguard, whom the Captain has asked to come along, not because his personality, but he was one of the finest engineers Remy had ever seen; and, Alita Claire-the Chief of Security and his lover. . . .

“Loyalty,” he began. “Loyalty to you’ crewmates, de Federa-SHON, de Wolverine, to you’ CO . . .an’ to you’ selves . . .is as just as impo’tan’ to me as any value you may hold in high regard.”

” Some of you came ‘ere at my request, ‘cuz I wanted de best of de best. Many of you were assigned to de Wolverine because Command didno’ know what else to do wit’ you. Dey may ave been ‘oping some of you went AWOL, or were killed in de line of duty takine care of de dangerous miss-SHONS we ‘ave been assigned to. I’d like to believe dat you are being given a second chance. A chance to make good on some of you’ past sins, no matter ‘ow severe or insignificat dey may ‘ave been. I ‘ave been tryine to build us into a family dat is loyal to each oder, dat can trust each oder. Wit’ our current orders, dat trust an’ loyalty will be tested. Unfortunately, I ‘ave no’ trusted enough of you, an’ I ‘ave failed in building dat loyalty dat is so very impo’tan’ to me. . . “

He lowered his head to collect his thoughts before continuing. . . .
To be continued. . .

Boudreaux (CO)

Damn, Skipper… maybe start out with a joke or something before you bring the whole room down… Reilly thought to himself, keeping face expressionless.

Reilly, XO

‘So much for team building,’ thought Mado, ‘Well… if he doesn’t end that sentence that way anyway.’

GM

Mikel wondered what group the Captain lumped him into.

Petrov CE

As Remy began speaking Alita slipped out of the shadows she had been inhabiting, somewhere into the middle of the room. She knew where everybody was but now, it was time to focus on the Captain.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Fin stood, looking around at the colorful crew. She shook her head, ‘So much talent in this room, such a nice sized ship and it was all going to waste. We’re out here chasing down weird artifacts instead of making a real difference. We could be infiltrating a smuggler’s nest, saving priceless art or returning items being held for ransom—but no, we get to chase down wacky tidbits with mystical powers.

—Fin

Mikel eyed the COS. Not a natural ally he thought. Then this new Fin. Maybe he could make some alliances with her and work her against the Captain and the XO. A crew divided was opportunity in his eyes. Opportunity to score points with another life saving idea for the ship. He felt if he had just one more good mission SF Engineering would give him the big ship he deserved or a sweet posting on Earth.

Petrov CE

Reilly watched the assembled crew listen to the Captain. Some listened, some yawned, some were too busy talking to be paying attention. Reilly sent the last offenders a look that quieted conversations and helped refocus attention on the Captain.

Reilly, XO

Remy raised his head again and eyed the crew.. Our current mis_SHON parameters ‘ave changed. We ‘ave been tasked wit’ seeking out and collectine what are called ‘artifacts”. Dese artifacts are items dat ‘ave existed for decades, centuries, and possibly millennia. Over time, through some process dat is not understood yet, dese artifacts ‘ave developed meta-physical, supernatural abilities. In de wrong ‘ands dey can be extremely dangerous. Dey can be dangerous in de right ‘ands. I wan’ everyone trained to recognize and be able to ‘andle dese items in de most safe way possible.”

He continued on with the secret Starfleet department known only as The Warehouse and shared what little background knowledge he had on The Warehouse. He pulled up slides on the screen that showed various artifacts and the effects one might experience. He stressed to the crew how important it was to keep their eyes open for possible artifacts and the damage they could do.

“You may ‘ave a difficult time believine. I admit, dat I did as well, but after seeine an item in act-SHON, my doubts ‘ave been erased. You may recall when we arrived at Rise for shore leave, de shuttle I was in crashed into de ocean. After examinine de shuttle dere was no reason for it to fail, but an artifact was found on de shuttle. It was beamed aboard by unknown persons in an attempt on my life. De artifact was a toy car. It ‘ad de ability to send out an EMP which caused de shuttle to lose all power. De car is in containment now and is no longer a threat as long as it stays contained. We will be transferrine dese items to a courier dat will den deliver dem to de Warehouse for safe-keepine.”

“Recently, a courier ship was ‘ijacked an’ de artifacts were stolen. We ‘ave been assigned to recover as many of dem as we can, perferably before too much damage can be done. . . .”

The CO took a deep breath before continuing. “At dis time, I’d like to open up de floor fo’ any ques-SHONS.”

Boudreaux (CO)

As they settled in she listened intently, looking at Nobs as the captain opened the floor for questions. A look of questions where shall we start. Not knowing she crossed her arms in front of her and leaned back into Nobs waiting for others, ears wide open.

Ensign Mantis [Doctor]

OOC: I have some real concerns about this sim. Does anyone feel the need to discuss what IS or IS NOT happening?

D…

Petrov spoke up.

“Listen Sir. Myself and the CSO did our best with that artifact. Its dangerous and we had no strong idea about how it works. That is saying a lot considering I can usually figure these things out. Why isn’t SF putting together a real team of experts and reassess the mission without us? We already wasted time on Risa.” Petrov said and looked halfway toward the XO.

Petrov CE

“Unfortunately, Lt., dat is de nature of de artifacts. De reason why an’ ‘ow dese powers manifest is a mystery. It ‘as been dat way for centuries. It was originally thought dat dey were specific to Earth, but as we ‘ave expanded to de stars, more artifacts ‘ave been discovered throughout oder cultures an’ societies. Personnel from De Warehouse ‘ave been studying de whys and ‘ows, an’ while de are no closer to de answers, dey ‘ave been able to discover ways to neutralize de items for safe transport and storing . . . Lt. Mado works directly for de Warehouse. ‘E will act as our liaison and contact.”

“Just for clarification sir, both Lieutenant Fihnrilkk’Hob”ledn-ardol and I are liaisons. The Warehouse division normally assigns pairs as teams but this is the first time we will be assigning a crew for this type of mission,” said Mado.

Reilly looked at the Captain and said “Are the powers that be allowing us time to investigate the attacks on our own crew, Captain? You were damn near killed, and Lieutenant Petrov was abducted. We can’t let that slide, sir.” Reilly looked directly at Petrov. “After all, we have our reputation as troublemakers to think of.” and he looked back at the Captain.

Reilly, XO

Mikel smiled inwardly. He had already won that little encounter just by having the XO acknowledge the comment. Still he really did not care for continuing on this mission if SF had other research capabilities they could deploy. He thought continuing to satisfy bravado was a poor command decision.

Petrov CE

“Commander, bot’ of dose instances were related to de artifacts. I ‘ave no doubt dat our search for artifacts will eventually lead us to de people responsible, so we will be continuing wit’ de investiga-SHON.”

Feeling he had answered those questions adequately, Remy looked around the bay for further questions. . . .

Boudreaux (CO)

GM

Alita knew this team of specialists was necessary and just hoped they were properly vetted. She was also glad to see that the finger pointing had been kept to a minimum. Perhaps she should have more questions but she didn’t. It was usually better to let the boys think they knew what they were doing at all times, that’s what Anna had taught her anyway.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Mikel knew that the mission would go on. He just wanted his piece out there in case it went bad. Then he could always look for a way to blame someone and he had a good idea who.

Petrov CE

“But if it was easily taken from us the first time, what counter measures can we do to ensure it doesn’t get stolen again and actually makes it to the warehouse?” Ensign Kudas said out loud to himself standing beside Lt. Claire.
Ensign Kudas, security

Perhaps Kudas hadn’t actually meant for Alita to hear that question, but she did. Turning slightly she leaned in and lowered her voice.

“That is something we’ll have to figure out now isn’t it? I appreciate someone who asks good questions. Keep at it.”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“It uses energy so if you want to lock it up you better dampen the area and use old school technology. Duranium cage maybe.” Petrov offered.

Petrov CE

OOC: BUMP or is this dead now?

OOC: We can let this die out now that we have a new GM coming on. –Terry
