Ensign Kudas arrived at the brig, and headed for the door with Lt. Claire’s name on it. He stood in front of the door and it chimed to let the Lt. know that he was there. He waited for her to answer, standing at parade rest. He was excited to be meeting his department head.

Alita had been taking care of some routine paper work even though there was no actual paper involved, the phrase just wouldn’t go away.

“Come.” she said.

When the door opened the smell of fresh coffee and pastries would assail whomever was lucky enough to be standing there.

  • Alita, MO/COS

The door opened and Ensign Kudas could smell the coffee and pastries. He took it in for a moment before stepping through the door and going back to standing at parade rest. “Ensign Kudas, reporting for duty, Ma’am.” Ensign Kudas introduced himself.

Alita was surprised to see such formality on the Wolverine. Especially in her tiny homey little office. Kudas was new to the ship and definitely new to her.

“At ease and take a seat if you please Ensign. Welcome to the Wolverine where everybody is more than what they seem. Help yourself to coffee and pastries if you like. You have my assurance that nothing here is replicated because my side hustle is as the ship’s cook.” she said by way of introduction all the while her green eyes took him in glancing from him to her desk.

  • Alita, MO/COS

“Thank you, Ma’am.” The Trill officer responded and got a cup of coffee, then sat down. As he got his coffee, she would see the speckles on the side of his body. “Well, if you need any help, I believe one of the past trill hosts had some culinary skill, so I should be able to tap into that.” He said.
Ensign Kudas, security

“I will definitely keep that in mind.” Alita sat back and studied the man for a few seconds.

“I know that I could read your file and find out everything you and Star Fleet think I should know about you but, I find it much better coming from you directly. So, tell me about yourself Ensign?”

  • Reia, MO/COS

Bump

I am a Trill. I have been joined. In my initiation to be joined, I followed a Starfleet officer and after being joined decided that was what I wanted to do, so I applied for the academy. While in the academy, I would get these horrible nightmares from a past host’s criminal activities, and they were afraid that I may eventually enact on those tendencies, so they sent me here.” The ensign Trill told her.

If this had been another time and place, Alita might have laughed or given the man a warm embrace. Perhaps he was exactly where he needed to be.

“And what do you suppose their reason for that was? Because nobody gave me any heads up on this situation.” she said pleasantly.

There was no malice or judgement in Alita’s question. Hopefully he could tell she was genuinely curious.

  • Alita, MO/COS

I assume that they sent me here, from the stories of how our section works, if I ever act in the footsteps of the previous host as a Starfleet Officer, they have better measures to keep it a controlled occurrence and possibly act as though I never existed, or the event never happened, but to tell you the truth, I don’t feel like that will ever be an issue, but as they say, better safe than sorry, sometimes.” He responded to her question as best he could. He just wanted to serve Starfleet, but if they felt he needed extra security measures to do so, with the history of the previous host’s and the dreams/visions he had seen, he understood the caution they were taking.

Alita could feel her protective urge rising again. This crew, for better or worse, had become her family in more twisted ways than she would have thought possible in the beginning but, everybody deserved to be who and what they were.

“For now you are exactly who you say you are. The fact that your past is more complicated than mine could probably ever be is only one part of that. So let’s move past that. Tell me about your Star Fleet career so far.”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“My first assignment was on the U.S.S. Saratoga. I served there till we went to the Starbase 61, and the CoS on the starbase needed extra security for a field mission they were doing on one of the planets near the base, The CoS of the Saratoga recommended myself and two other ensigns to stay behind and help. We mostly oversaw a peace treaty, and nothing eventful even went down, but better safe than sorry.” The ensign responded.

Alita nodded and smiled a bit. She was familiar with that term.

“Agreed. I suppose one never can be too sure with a peace treaty, so they say but, I’m certain that’s not you most interesting mission now is it?”

  • Alita

“For the most part, I have had boring posts, if I’m being honest.” He responded. “Which is why when I heard how active your ship was, even with why I’ve been assigned here, I’m excited to get started, and hoping for something with more adventure.” He continued.
Ensign Kudas

Alita couldn’t help but grin.

“The Wolverine may be many things, boring is not one of them. So tell me, what is your weapon skill set?”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“I passed level three of the courses, and I’m good at hand to hand combat. I can shoot the target with majority of the weapons I’ve fired. I prefer small one handed weapons though.” He responded.
Ensign Kudas

“Oh I’m sure you passed the courses or you wouldn’t be here but that’s not quite what I’m after. Tell me about you interest in small one handed weapons.” Alita said.

  • Alita, MO/COS

“I’m a person who uses my hands a lot, and so with one handed weapons, I still have a hand available to do other things. Using rifles and weapons that require both hands, makes it difficult to do multiple things at the same time, if I need to. Like using the tricorder to scan the area and have a weapon at the ready is harder with a rifle than it is a one handed weapon.” He responded.
Ensign Kudas

Alita knew he had a point or was he being cagey?

“You can mount a tricorder on a Star Fleet rifle therefor allowing the use of a tricorder with the rifle other than that, that makes a sort of sense to me.”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“Then either the rifle I had in the academy was super old, or broken, cause it didn’t have that capability.” He said, thinking back at the rifle he had for classes.
Ensign Kudas, security

Alita nodded and shrugged.

“Yeah well, leave it to those old academy rifles I suppose. Familiarize yourself with the Wolverine’s weaponry and you’ll never look back. Phaser drills are Monday and Wednesday or whenever I decide it’s a good idea. Any further questions?”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“Not at the moment, everything seems pretty straight forward on this ship, I like it.” He responded.
Ensign Kudas, Security

Alita wondered when things would stop being straight forward to him. It had happened for her the first time she’d looked up into her CO’s eyes but that was quite a different story.

“Well then, you’re dismissed. Your first bridge shift will be in four hours.”

  • Alita, MO/COS

“Yes, Ma’am.” Ensign Kudas responded and turned around and left her office to get ready for his assignment.
